The number in the parentheses indicates the quantity of the pieces supplied. • AM loop antenna (1) • FM antenna (1) • Remote control (1) • Batteries (2) If anything is missing, consult your dealer immediately .
– 7 – 1 If cords are co ver ed with insulation, twist the core of the cor d at the end of each cord, then r emove the insulation. 2 Connect the AM loop antenna to the AM LOOP terminals as illustrated. 3 T urn the AM loop antenna until y ou hav e the best r eception.
– 8 – CD OPTICAL DIGIT AL OUTPUT Connecting Other Equipment Y ou can connect both analog and digital equipment. • DO NOT connect any equipment while the power is on.
– 9 – Common Operations T urning On or Off the Power T o tur n on the unit, press (or ST ANDBY/ON on the remote control) so that the lamp on the b utton goes off. T o tur n off the unit (on standby), press (or ST ANDBY/ON on the remote control) again so that the lamp on the b utton lights up.
– 10 – Selecting the Sources T o listen to the FM/AM br oadcasts, press FM/AM. (See page 12.) T o play back CDs, pr ess CD 3¥8 . (See pages 13 – 17.) T o play back tapes, press T APE 2 3 . (See page 18.) T o select the exter nal equipment as the source, press A UX.

– 12 – Listening to FM and AM Broadcasts T uning in to a Station 1 Pr ess FM/AM. The unit automatically turns on and tunes in to the previously tuned station (either FM or AM). • Each time you press the button, the band alternates between FM and AM.
– 13 – Playing Back CDs (CD/CD-R/CD-RW) This unit has been designed to playback the follo wing CDs: • CD (Audio CD) • CD-R (CD-Recordable) • CD-R W (CD-ReWritable) Continued use of irregular shape CDs (heart-shape, octagonal, etc.) can damage the unit.
– 14 – Playing Back the Entire Discs—Continuous Play Y ou can play CDs continuously . 1 Load CDs. 2 Pr ess one of the disc number (CD1, CD2, and CD3) b uttons f or the disc you want to play . The unit starts searching for the CD and CD play starts from the f irst track of the selected disc.
– 15 – Programming the Playing Order of the T racks —Program Play Y ou can arrange the playing order of the tracks before y ou start playing. Y ou can program up to 32 tracks. • T o use Repeat Play (see page 17) for Program Play , press REPEA T after starting Program Play .
– 16 – Playing at Random—Random Play The tracks of all loaded CDs will be played at random. • T o use Repeat Play (see page 17) for Random Play , press REPEA T after starting Random Play . Only REPEA T 1 and REPEA T ALL can be selected for Random Play .
– 17 – Repeating T racks or CDs—Repeat Play Y ou can have all the CDs, the pro gram or the individual track currently playing to repeat as many times as you lik e.
– 18 – Y ou can play back type I tapes without changing any settings. Playing Back a T ape 1 Pr ess 0 EJECT for the cassette deck. 2 Put a cassette in with the exposed part of the tape down. 3 Close the cassette holder gently . 4 Pr ess T APE 2 3 .
– 19 – Recording Recording on a T ape 1 Press 0 EJECT to insert a recordable cassette with the exposed part of the tape do wn. 2 Close the cassette holder gently . • If you want to record on both sides of a tape, see “T o record on both sides—Rev erse Mode.
– 20 – CD Synchronized Recording By using CD Synchronized Recording methods, you can start and stop a CD play and tape recording at the same time. CD Synchronized Recording consists of the followi.
– 21 – T racks to be recorded on the rev erse side (SIDE-B) appear . SET / DISPLA Y REVERSE MODE CD REC ST ART 7 Auto Edit Recording By using Auto Edit Recording, you can record the CD tracks to f it the tape. Auto Edit Recording makes a program by selecting the CD tracks in numerical order .
– 22 – Using the T imers There are three timers a vailable—D AIL Y (Daily T imer), REC (Recording T imer), and SLEEP (Sleep T imer). Before using the timers, you need to set the clock built in the unit. (See page 9.) Using Daily Timer W ith Daily T imer, you can be a waken with your fa vorite music or radio program.

– 26 – Maintenance T o get the best performance of the unit, keep your discs, tapes, and mechanism clean. Handling cassette tapes • If the tape is loose in its cassette, take up the slack by inserting a pencil in one of the reels and rotating. • If the tape is loose, it may get stretched, cut, or caught in the cassette.
