GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 7 BOO TS Wear boots with steel toe-caps and non-slip sole . CLO THING Wear clothes made of a strong f abr ic and av oid loose clothing that can catch on twigs and branches. Alwa ys wear heavy , long pants. Do not wear jewellery , shor ts sandals or go barefoot.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 8 – English be chec ked. See instructions under the heading Maintenance. Stop switc h Use the stop switch to s witch off the engine. Star t the engine and make sure the engine stops when you mov e the stop switch to the stop setting.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 9 Muffler The muffler is designed to keep noise le vels to a minimum and to direct exhaust fumes a wa y from the user . A m uffler fitted with a catalytic conv er ter is also designed to reduce harmful exhaust gases.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 10 – English Locking n ut A locking nut is used to secure some types of cutting attachment. When fitting, tighten the nut in the opposite direction to the direction of rotation of the cutting attachment. T o remov e it, undo the nut in the same direction as the cutting attachment rotates.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 11 General rules Only use cutting attachments with the guards we recommend! See the chapter on T echnical data. K eep the teeth of the blade correctly sharpened! Follow our instructions and use the recommended file gauge.
ASSEMBL Y 12 – English Fitting the J-handle • Clip the loop handle onto the shaft. Note that the loop handle must be fitted between the arrows on the shaft. • Slide the spacer into the slot in the loop handle. • Fit the nut, knob and screw . Do not overtighten.
ASSEMBL Y English – 13 Fitting the guard e xtension CA UTION! The guard extension shall alwa ys be fitted when using the trimmer head/plastic blades and combination guard. The guard e xtension shall alwa ys be remov ed when using the grass b lade and combination guard.
ASSEMBL Y 14 – English Fitting other guards and cutting attachments • Fit the trimmer guard/combination guard (A) intended for use with the trimmer head/plastic blades . CA UTION! Ensure that the guard e xtension is fitted. Hang the trimmer guard/combination guard (A) on the two hooks on the plate holder (M).
FUEL HANDLING English – 15 Fuel safety Nev er star t the machine: 1 If you ha ve spilt fuel on it. Wipe off the spillage and allow remaining fuel to e vapor ate. 2 If you ha ve spilt fuel on y ourself or your clothes, change your clothes. W ash any part of your body that has come in contact with fuel.
FUEL HANDLING 16 – English Mixing • Alwa ys mix the petrol and oil in a clean container intended for fuel. • Alwa ys star t by filling half the amount of the petrol to be used. Then add the entire amount of oil. Mix (shake) the fuel mixture. Add the remaining amount of petrol.
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING English – 17 Check bef ore star ting • Check the b lade to ensure that no cracks ha ve f or med at the bottom of the teeth or by the centre hole.
ST AR TING AND ST OPPING 18 – English Choke: Set the choke control in the chok e position. Hold the body of the machine on the ground using your left hand (CA UTION! Not with your f oot!).
W ORKING TECHNIQUES English – 19 General working instructions Basic safety rules 1 Look around you: • T o ensure that people, animals or other things cannot affect y our control of the machine.
W ORKING TECHNIQUES 20 – English Basic working tec hniques Alwa ys slow the engine to idle speed after each working operation. Long periods at full throttle without any load on the engine can lead to serious engine damage. Grass clearing using a grass b lade • Grass blades and g rass cutters must not be used on woody stems.
W ORKING TECHNIQUES English – 21 Cutting • The trimmer is ideal for cutting grass that is difficult to reach using a normal lawn mower . K eep the cord parallel to the ground when cutting. Av oid pressing the trimmer head against the ground as this can ruin the lawn and damage the tool.
MAINTENANCE 22 – English Carburettor Y our Jonsered product has been designed and manuf actured to specifications that reduce harmful exhaust fumes .
MAINTENANCE English – 23 Low speed jet L T r y to find the highest idle speed by turning the low speed jet L clockwise then anti-cloc kwise. When the highest speed has been found, turn the low speed jet L 1/4 turn anti-clockwise.
MAINTENANCE 24 – English Muffler CA UTION! Some mufflers are fitted with a catalytic conv er ter . See chapter on T echnical data to see whether your machine is fitted with a catalytic con verter. The muffler is designed to reduce the noise le vel and to direct the exhaust gases a wa y from the operator .
MAINTENANCE English – 25 Air filter The air filter must be regularly cleaned to remove dust and dir t in order to av oid: • Carburettor malfunctions • Star ting problems • Loss of engine power • Unnecessary wear to engine par ts. • Excessive fuel consumption.
26 – English MAINTENANCE Maintenance schedule The follo wing is a list of the maintenance that must be perf ormed on the machine. Most of the items are described in the Maintenance section. The user must only carry out the maintenance and service work descr ibed in this Operator’ s Manual.
