13 Speed Ch ang e 1. Di sconnect th e machin e fr o m th e pow er sou rce! 2. Loosen t he locking handl e (A, Fig. 11). 3. Lif t up on the tensioni ng hand l e ( B , Fi g. 11) to r e m o v e tensi on f rom t he poly v -belt . You can now posit ion the belt in the desi red speed range.

15 Sto ck Sele cti on Stoc k f or spi nd l es s h ould be strai ght gr ained and f ree of checks, c racks, knots and other def ects. It should be cut 1/8" to 1/ 4" lar ger t han the fi nished diam e t er and may requi re additional lengt h to rem o v e ends if required.
16 Cove s 1. Use a spindl e gouge. Wit h t he f lute of the tool at 90 degrees to t he w or kpiece, touch the c enter of the cut ting edge t o the workpiec e and roll in towards the bott o m of the c o v e. S top at the b ottom; atte m p ti n g to go up the opposi te side m ay caus e t he tool to ca tch .
17 Sanding and Finis hing Leav ing clean c uts w ill r educe the am ount of sanding requi red. A d j us t the lat he to a f inishing speed, and begin with fi ne sandpaper (120 gri t or f iner). Coarser san dpaper w ill le a ve deep scratc hes t hat are dif ficult to remove, and dull cri sp details.
