10 7.0 Electrical connections Electr ical conn ections must be made by a qualified electr ician in complian ce with all rele v a n t codes. This machine must be pr operly gr ounded to h elp prevent electrical shock and possible fatal in jury. The J W L-1440VS Lathe i s rated at 115/230V power, and is pre-w ired for 115 vol t.
11 Altern at ively, the lat h e m ay be “hard-wired” to the power s ource. If y ou are h ard-w i r in g the l ath e t o a pa n el, mak e s u r e a di s conn ec t is available f or the operator.
12 8.4 Cam tigh tness The clamping mechanis ms of h eadstock, tailstock and tool rest base are pre- set by t he manufact urer, an d should n ot require adjus tment. If one of them does n ot tig hten properly against the bed when the locki n g h a n dle is t i ghtened, adj us t it as follows.

15 4. Bed ways; keep clean , use steel wool to remove any rust spots, a nd apply paste wax to prevent buildup of rust a n d f inishes. 5. Tool rest; use a mi ll fil e to rem ove ni ck s and dings. 6. Spin d l e tapers; should be c l ea n a nd free of dust and chi ps f or proper seating of tapers.
