5 Intr oduction Y our new digital projector is simple to c onnect, easy to use, and str aightforward to maintain. It is a versatile projector that is flexible enough for home video viewing and business presentations, too. The SP8602 has native 1920x1080 (1080p) resolution.

7 Positioning the projector T o determine where to position the projecto r, consider the size and shape of your screen, the location of your power outlets, and the distance be tween the projector and the rest of your equipment. Here are some ge neral guidelines: • Position the projector on a flat surface a t a right angle to the screen.

9 Cable management The integrated cable management system allows you to keep the cables organized. 10 Connecting power Connect the black power cord to the Power connector on the rear of the projector and to your electrical outlet. The Powe r light on the Status Indicator Panel ( page 15 ) turns amber . NOTE : Always use the power cord th at shipped with the projector .
11 Displaying an image T ouch the Power button on the keypad or the remote. The Power button blinks green a nd the fans start to run. When the lamp turns on, the start up screen will display and the Power button will become solid g reen. It can take a minute for the image to achieve full brightness.
12 Adjusting the image Position the projector to the desire d distance from the screen at a 90 degree angle to the screen. See page 8 for a table listing of screen size s and distances. Remove the projector top cover a. Slide the tabs on the side toward th e rear of the projector to unlock the projector top cover .
13 Connecting a video device Y ou can connect vide o devices such as VCRs, DVD players, camcorders, digital cameras, video game consoles , HDTV receivers, and TV tuners to the projector . Y ou can connect the projector to most vi deo devices that can output video.
14 What is Aspect Ratio? Aspect ratio is the rati o of the image width to imag e height . HDTV and most DVDs are 16:9, which is the defau lt for thi s pr ojector .
15 Shutting down the pr ojector Screen Save T ime Y ou can make the black screen appear afte r a preset n umber of minutes by turning on the Screen Save T ime feat ure in the Setup menu.

23 Using the remote contr ol The remote uses two (2) AA batteries. Y ou can install the batteries by removing the cover from the remote’ s back, aligning the + and - ends of the batteries, sliding them into place, and t hen replacing the cover . Caution : • When disposing of the batteries, be sure to do so in an en vironmentally proper manner .
24 Using the keypad buttons Most buttons are described in detail in other sec tions, but here is an overview of their functions: Power –turns the projector on and off (page 10). Auto Image –resynchronize the projector to the source. Presets –cycles through the availabl e preset settings (page 27).
25 Optimizing video images After your video device is connected pr operly and the image is on the screen, you can optimize the image using the onscreen menus. For gen eral information on using the menus, see page 26. • Adjust the Keystone, Contra st, Brightness, Color , T i nt or Sharpness in the Basic Picture menu ( page 27 ).
26 Using the menus T o open the menus, press the Menu button on the keypad or remote. (The menus automatically close after 60 seconds if no buttons are pressed.) Use the arrow buttons to move up and do wn to highlight the desi red menu, then press the Select button.
27 Basic Picture menu T o adjust the following settin gs, highlight the setting, press Select , u se the arrow buttons to adjust the values, then press Select to confirm the changes.
28 Advanced Picture menu BrilliantColor™ : Produces an expanded onscreen co lor spectrum that delivers enhanced color saturation for bright, true -to-life images. Choo se Normal Look for most video sources and Bright Look for most computer sour ces.
29 Setup menu Language : Allows you to select a la nguage for the onscreen display . Key Click : T urns the key click sound on or of f. When this setting is on, pressing keys on the keypad causes the projecto r’ s speaker to play a “click” sound.
30 Search Screen : Allows you to display one of the following options instead of the default screen at startup, and when no source is detected. Options include the factory logo screen, or a bl ue, black or white screen. Show Messages : Displays status message s (s uch as “Searching” ) in the lowe r-left corner of the screen.
31 S tatus and Servic e me nu Source Info : Displays current source settings (read-only). Projector Info : Displays current projec tor settings (read-only). Reset Lamp Hours : Resets the lamp h ours used c ounter in the Projector Info menu to zero. Do this only after changing the lamp.
32 Maintenance Cleaning the lens 1 T urn the projector of f and unplug the power cord. 2 Apply a non-abrasive camera lens cleaner to a soft, dry cloth. • A void using an excessive amount of cleaner , and don’t apply the cleaner directly to the lens.
33 Replacing the projection lamp The lamp hours timer in the Projector In fo menu counts the number of hours the lamp has been in use. T wenty hours befo re the lamp life e xpires, th e message “Replace lamp” appears on the s creen at startup. • NOTE : Be su re to use the InFocus lamp module desi gne d for this projector .
34 4 Loosen the captive sc re ws that attach the lamp housing to the projector . 5 Using the handle, carefully remove the la mp housing. Dispose of the lamp in an environmentally proper manner in acco rdance with local disp osal laws. 6 Install the new lamp housing, pressing the lamp into place.
35 Appendix SplitScreen Compatibility Splitscreen allows two disti nct sourc es to be displayed simultan eously . Switch primary sources, make picture adjustmen ts and ch oose one of multiple di splay.
