3 Important Operating Co nsiderations for Safety • Refer to this guide for proper startup and shutdown p rocedures. • Follow all warnings and cautio ns in this manual and on the projector . • Place the projector in a horizontal pos ition no greater than 15 degrees off axis.
4 Intr oduction Y our new digital projector is simple to c onnect, easy to use, and str aightforward to maintain. It is a versatile projector that is flexible enough for business presentations and home video viewing too. The IN1501 has native XGA 1024x768 resolution, and the IN1503 has WXGA 1280x800 resolution.
5 Connector panel The projector provides both computer and video connecti on options, including: • VGA computer • HDMI • Composite video • USB DisplayLink connector , for comp ut er audio/video input.
6 Positioning the projector T o determine where to position the project or , consi der the size and shape of your screen, the location of your power outlets, and t he distance between the projector and the rest of your equipment. 8 Connecting a computer sour ce DisplayLink If you have a W indows or Macintosh co m puter , connect the USB cable between your computer's USB port and the projector's Di splayLink connector*. Then to begin installation of th e DisplayLink software: Windows: Follow the instru ctions on the screen.
9 Displaying an image T ouch the Power button. The Power button blinks green and the fans start to run. When the lamp comes on, the start up screen displays and the Powe r button is steady green. It can take a minute for the image to ach ieve full brightness.
10 Adjusting the image If necessary , adjust the height of the proj ector by pressing the el evator foot release button to extend the foot. If necessary , rotate the leveli ng foot located at the rear of the proje ctor . A void placing your hands near the hot exhaust vent at the side of the projector .
11 What is Aspect Rat io ? Aspect ratio is the ratio of the image wi dth to image height. S tandard TV screens and older laptops are 4:3; HDTV and most DVDs are 16:9; and widescreen computers are 16:10. If you are projecting on to a screen, the si ze/shape of the screen will influence the as pe ct ratio you decide to use.
12 Connecting a video device Y ou can connect vide o devices such as VCRs, DVD players, camcorders, digital cameras, video game consoles , HDTV receivers, and TV tuners to the projector .
13 Shutting down the pr ojector The projector automa tic al ly displays a bl ack screen after no active source is detected for 30 minutes. This black screen helps preserve the life of the projector . The image returns when an active source is detected or a remote or keypad button is pressed.

21 Using the remote contr ol The remote uses two (2) AA batteries. Th ey are easily installed by removing the cover from the remote’ s back, aligning the + and - ends of the batteries, sliding them into place, and t hen replacing the cover . Caution : • When disposing of the batter ie s, be sure to do so in an enviromentally proper manner .
22 Using the audio Using the projector’s speakers When using the HDMI connector , both audi o and video are sent over the cable to the projector and audio will play from the projector's speakers. For inputs other than HDMI, connect the audi o source to the Audio In connector to hear au dio through the projector's speakers.
23 Using the keypad buttons Most buttons are described in detail in other sec tions, but here is an overview of their functions: Power –turns the pro jector on and off ( page 9 ). Auto Image –res ets the pro jector to th e source. Presets –cycles through the avai lable preset settings ( page 27 ).
24 Optimizing computer images After the projector is running and the image is on the screen, you can optimize the image using the onscreen menus. For gene ral information on us ing the menus, see page 26. • Adjust the Keystone, Contrast, or Br ightness in the Ba sic Picture menu ( page 27 ).
25 Optimizing video images After your video device is connected pr operly and the image is on the screen, you can optimize the image using the onscreen menus. For gen eral information on using the menus, see page 26. • Adjust the Keystone, Contra st, Brightness, Color , or T i nt in the Basic Pict ure menu ( page 27 ).
26 Using the menus T o open the menus, press the Menu button on the keypad or remote. (The menus automatically close after 60 seconds if no buttons are pressed.) Use the arrow buttons to move up and do wn to highlight the desi red menu, then press the Select button.
27 Basic Picture menu T o adjust the following settin gs, highlight the setting, press Select , use the up and down arrows to adjust the values, then press Select to confirm the cha nge s.
28 Advanced Picture menu BrilliantColor™ : pro duces an expanded on-screen co lor spectrum th at delivers enhanced color saturation for bright, true -to-life images. Choo se Normal Look for most video sources and Bright Look for most computer sour ces.
29 Setup menu Language : allows you to select a langu age for the onscreen display . Key Click : turns the key click sound on or off. When this setting is on, pressing keys on the keypad causes the projecto r’ s speaker to play a “click” sound.
30 Auto Keystone : automatic al ly adj usts vertical image. Prevent PC Screen Saver : prevents your computer from going into Screen Save mode. The projector must be connected to th e PC via a USB cable for this feature to work.

34 T roubleshooting LitePort • If images load slowly: Make sure you are using a newer USB 2.0- compatible (high speed) USB flash drive. Larger image file sizes may also slow down the player; to redu.
35 Maintenance Cleaning the lens 1 Apply a non-abrasive camera lens cleaner to a soft, dry cloth. • A void using an excessive amount of cleaner , and don’t apply the cleaner directly to the lens. Abrasive cleane rs, solvents or ot her harsh chemicals might scratch the lens.
36 Replacing the projection lamp The Lamp Hours timer in the Projector Info menu counts the number of hours the lamp has been in use. T wenty hours befo re the lamp life e xpires, th e message “Replace lamp” appears on the s creen at startup. • NOTE : Be sure to use the InFocus lamp module desi gne d for this projector .
