INSERT ASSEMBLED CARRIER INT O EMPTY BA Y With the har d drive secur ely fast ened to the carrier , it can be inserted into the empty ba y on the DataGuard Appliance. F ollow these st eps: 1. Pick up the assembled driv e carrier . 2. Slide the carrier most of the wa y into the empty bay .
USE L CD P ANEL CONTROLS The L CD display and c ontrols on the fr ont panel let you monitor vital sy stem statistics, check the firm ware v ersion, configure IP settings, and reboot or shut do wn the device . T o re view s ystem s tatus, pres s the Select button r epeatedly .
RD X DOCK AND CARTRIDGES— T5R The T5R has a built-in RD X dock that pro vides additional capabilities for data management. Y ou can use RD X cartridges to mak e secondary backups for o-sit e storage , tr ansfer large da ta sets to and fr om the DataGuard Applianc e, or seed an online cloud sys tem.
The DataGuar d Management Interface w orks with most popular web br owsers t o let you manage the R4 or T5R. Once the de vice is pow ered on, is connect ed to the network and has an IP addr ess, the DataGuard Management Int erface can perform c onfiguration and maintenanc e functions.

T o view the details of e xisting backups, or to cr eate a new back up, click the “Mor e” link at the top right. This will open the NA S tab and Backup menu item, as sho wn below .

SP ARE DRIVE An unassigned har d driv e can be assigned as a spar e drive t o replace a failed har d drive in a RAID v olume. One that is active and c onnected is known as a “hot” spar e drive.

i SCSi CHAp Challenge-Handshake A uthentication Protoc ol ( CHAP) is a security prot ocol used for authentication of iSCSI initiators, tar gets, or both. If CHAP is used, be sure t o enable uni-directional or bi-directional CHAP authentication in the iSCSI Node Settings menu.

CONFIGURA TION FILE This fea ture lets y ou export c onfigur ation files for use in other installations, or as backup files f or restor ation in case of failur e. T o import or e xport a sy stem c onfiguration file, f ollow these s teps: T o import an existing c onfigura tion file: 1.

b A Ckup to i SCSi An iSCSI backup will cr eate a c omplete c opy of the logical driv e, including the RAID configur ation. Data can be rest ored to a DataGuar d Appliance fr om an iSCSI backup without creating a ne w logical drive and file sy stem.
i SCSi r eS tore ld p roCeSS The iSCSI Backup function is used t o backup an entire logical driv e with its RAID configur ation intact. The res tor e function for iSCSI Backup will only w ork if the physical driv es where the logical driv e will be replac ed meet two important conditions.

FILE SHARING When the ne w user / group is added, y ou hav e to complete the permission settings for each user / group to ac cess the sy st em. Use the File Sharing menu to change the permission settings f or each share f older on a per user basis.

APPENDIX RD X SP ANNING rd X S p Anning For l Arge d A t A S etS When the data t o be backed up t o RD X e x ceeds the capacity of a single cartridge the sy stem will need to use mor e than one cartridge which is called ‘spanning’ acr oss multiple RD X cartridges.
Selecting Run will start the back up job. Not e the LCD displa y will show ‘RD X Backup’ and the Status indicates ‘Pr ocessing’ during the job: 7. If y ou are r eady to accept the r estor e job, select Y es and the job will begin. 3. When the r estor e job is completed the unit will beep onc e, the L CD display will sho w ‘Restor e OK”, Status will change to Idle, and a completion message will appear on the Management GUI.

An important point after buying a device Imation DataGuard R4 (or even before the purchase) is to read its user manual. We should do this for several simple reasons:
If you have not bought Imation DataGuard R4 yet, this is a good time to familiarize yourself with the basic data on the product. First of all view first pages of the manual, you can find above. You should find there the most important technical data Imation DataGuard R4 - thus you can check whether the hardware meets your expectations. When delving into next pages of the user manual, Imation DataGuard R4 you will learn all the available features of the product, as well as information on its operation. The information that you get Imation DataGuard R4 will certainly help you make a decision on the purchase.
If you already are a holder of Imation DataGuard R4, but have not read the manual yet, you should do it for the reasons described above. You will learn then if you properly used the available features, and whether you have not made any mistakes, which can shorten the lifetime Imation DataGuard R4.
