GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 7 Al ways use common sense It is not possib le to cov er ev er y conceivab le situation you can face when using a chain sa w. Always e xercise care and use your common sense. Av oid all situations which you consider to be be yond y our capability .
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 8 – English T ake care when using y our saw and mak e sure the kickbac k zone of the bar ne ver touches any object. • The chain brake (A) can either be activ ated manually (by y our left hand) or automatically by the inertia release mechanism.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 9 If the kickbac k is less violent or the kickback zone of the bar is closer to you the chain brak e will be activated manually b y the movement of y our left hand. • In the felling position the left hand is in a position that makes manual activ ation of the chain brake impossible.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 10 – English Right hand guar d Apar t from protecting your hand if the chain jumps or snaps, the right hand guard stops branches and twigs from interfering with your g r ip on the rear handle.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 11 General rules • Only use cutting equipment recommended by us! See instructions under the heading T echnical data. • Keep the chain’ s cutting teeth properly sharpened! Follow our instructions and use the recommended file gauge.

GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 13 • Alwa ys file cutting teeth from the inside face. Reduce the pressure on the return stroke. File all the teeth on one side first, then turn the chain saw over and file the teeth on the other side. • File all the teeth to the same length.
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS 14 – English • Use the combination spanner to tighten the bar nuts while lifting the tip of the bar at the same time. Check that you can pull the chain round freely b y hand and that it does not sag from the underside of the bar .
GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS English – 15 Chain drive sproc ket The clutch drum is fitted with one of the follo wing drive sprock ets: A Spur sprock et (the chain sprock et is welded on the drum) B Rim sprock et (replaceable) Regularly check the degree of wear on the drive sproc ket.
ASSEMBL Y 16 – English Fitting the bar and chain Check that the chain brak e is in disengaged position by moving the front hand guard tow ards the front handle. Remov e the bar nuts and remov e the clutch cover (chain brake). T ake off the transportation guard (A).
FUEL HANDLING English – 17 Fuel Note! The machine is equipped with a two-stroke engine and must alwa ys be r un using a mixture of petrol and two- stroke oil. It is impor tant to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mixed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained.
FUEL HANDLING 18 – English Fueling Clean the area around the fuel cap . Clean the fuel and chain oil tanks regularly . The fuel filter must be replaced at least once a year . Contamination in the tanks causes malfunction. Make sure the fuel is well mix ed by shaking the container before refuelling.
ST ARTING AND ST OPPING English – 19 Starting and stopping Cold engine Starting: The chain brake m ust be engaged when the chain saw is started. Activate the brak e by moving the front hand guard forw ards. Ignition: Slide the ignition s witch to the left.
ST ARTING AND ST OPPING 20 – English • Nev er star t a chain saw unless the bar , chain and all cov ers are fitted correctly . See instructions under the heading Assembly . Without a bar and chain attached to the chain saw the clutch can come loose and cause serious injur y .
W ORKING TECHNIQUES English – 21 Bef ore use: 1 Check that the chain brak e works correctly and is not damaged. 2 Check that the rear right hand guard is not damaged. 3 Check that the throttle loc kout works correctly and is not damaged. 4 Check that the stop s witch works correctly and is not damaged.
W ORKING TECHNIQUES 22 – English 6 Before mo ving your chain saw s witch off the engine and lock the chain using the chain brak e. Carr y the chain saw with the bar and chain pointing bac kwards. Fit a guard to the bar before tr anspor ting the chain saw or carrying it for any distance .
W ORKING TECHNIQUES English – 23 7 T ake great care when y ou cut with the top edge of the bar , i.e. when cutting from the underside of the object. This is known as cutting on the push stroke . The chain tries to push the chain saw back to wards the user .
W ORKING TECHNIQUES 24 – English The follo wing instr uctions describe how to handle the commonest situations you are lik ely to encounter when using a chain saw . Limbing When limbing thick br anches you should use the same approach as for cutting.
W ORKING TECHNIQUES English – 25 Felling direction The aim is to f ell the tree in a position where you can limb and cross-cut the log as easily as possible.
W ORKING TECHNIQUES 26 – English Directional cuts T o make the directional cut y ou begin with the top cut. Aim using to the saw’ s felling direction mark (1) tow ard a goal fur ther f orward in the terrain, where you would lik e the tree to fall (2).
W ORKING TECHNIQUES English – 27 Freeing a tree that has fallen badl y Freeing a ”trapped tree” It is very dangerous to remov e a trapped tree and there is high accident risk. Nev er tr y to fell the tree that is tr apped. Nev er work in the r isk zone of the hanging trapped tree .
W ORKING TECHNIQUES 28 – English Ho w to a void kic kback What is kic kback? The word kickbac k is used to descr ibe the sudden reaction that causes the chain saw and bar to jump off an object when the upper quadrant of the tip of the bar , known as the kickbac k zone, touches an object.
MAINTENANCE English – 29 Carburettor adjustment The carburettor can be designed in diff erent ways , depending on existing en vironmental and emissions legislation. Some chain saws are equipped with mov ement limiters on the carburettor’ s adjuster screws.
MAINTENANCE 30 – English Fine adjustment When the machine has been ”run-in” the carburettor should be finely adjusted. The fine adjustment should be carried out by a qualified person. First adjust the L-jet, then the idling screw T and then the H-jet.
MAINTENANCE English – 31 Function • The carburettor gov er ns the engine’ s speed via the throttle control. Air and fuel are mixed in the carburettor . The air/fuel mixture is adjustab le. Correct adjustment is essential to get the best performance from the machine.
MAINTENANCE 32 – English High speed jet H • The high speed jet H influences the power and engine speed of the machine. If the high speed jet is set too lean (H-jet screwed in too f ar) the machine will over- rev and this will damage the engine . Run the machine at full throttle for about 10 seconds .
MAINTENANCE English – 33 Checking the inertia brake release Place the chain saw , with the engine switched off, on a stump or other stable surf ace. Release the front handle and let the saw f all by its own weight, rotating around the rear handle towards the stump .
MAINTENANCE 34 – English Chain catcher Chec k that the chain catcher is not damaged and is firmly attached to the body of the chain saw . Right hand guar d Chec k that the right hand guard is not damaged and that there are no visible def ects, such as cracks.
MAINTENANCE English – 35 Starter housing Changing a br oken or worn starter cord • Loosen the screws that hold the starter against the crankcase and remov e the star ter. • Pull out the cord approx. 30 cm and hook it into the notch in the rim of the pulley .
MAINTENANCE 36 – English Fitting the starter • T o fit the star ter , first pull out the star ter cord and place the star ter in position against the crankcase . Then slowly release the starter cord so that the pulley engages with the pawls. • Fit and tighten the screws that hold the starter.
MAINTENANCE English – 37 Needle bearing lubrication The clutch drum has a needle bearing on the output shaft. This needle bearing must be lubricated regularly (once a week). CA UTION! Use a high-quality bearing grease or engine oil. See instructions under the heading Cutting equipment.
MAINTENANCE 38 – English Winter use Running problems can occur when using the machine in the cold and snowy conditions caused by: • T oo low engine temperature .
