Y our fax machine is not designed for use in a phone system that has call waiting, multiple phone extensions, caller ID, voice-mail, modems or roll-over lines.

These modes are F AX mode, TELEPHONE mode and F AX/TEL Auto Switch mode. The modes and their use are presented in Chapter 3 of this guide.

Installation and Configuration 2Ć43 Setting the Logo on the HP F AX-900 The term, logo, is not used on the HP F AX-700 and F AX-750. The term, name, is equi valent to the term, logo, since the name is included in the header of documents sent with these machines.

Installation and Configuration 2Ć45 Entering a Fax Access Code (HP F AX-950) A fax access code can be used to prev ent unauthorized use of the fax machine. Once a code is entered, use of the ma- chine to send a fax requires the entry of the access code.

When a busy or unanswered line is sensed, your fax machine automatically redials the number up to a maximum of 15 times.

Operation and Usage 3Ć31 This feature is useful to send a priority fax when you already hav e other documents stored for transmission. The prior- ity fax will be sent immediately after the current communication is completed. When this feature is used, the message, Direct XMT Reserved, will appear in the display until the document is sent.
Operation and Usage 3Ć32 T ransmission Print Quality on the HP F AX-700 and F AX-750 T ransmission print quality relates to the condition of the original document and how it will be transmitted. Usually , the default settings for resolution, contrast, and photo quality will pro vide acceptable print quality .
Operation and Usage 3Ć33 T o Set T ransmission Resolution on the HP F AX-700 and F AX-750, use the buttons described belo w for temporari- ly setting transmission print quality for the current document being sent.
Operation and Usage 3Ć34 your fax machine rev erts to the pre vious settings. T o set new default values for the settings, you will need to change fax parameters 01, 02 and 03.
Operation and Usage 3Ć35 the fax machine and press the Start button or dial the reception code, normally 123, from an extension phone for the fax machine to receiv e fax calls. Incoming voice calls are treated as normal voice telephone calls. In the Auto Fax/Phone mode, the fax machine answers calls as fax calls.
Operation and Usage 3Ć36 Unattended Modes The two unattended modes are Fax Only and Auto Fax/Ans Mach. In the Fax Only mode, the fax machine answers all incoming calls. In the Auto Fax/Ans Mach mode, the fax machine answers a f ax call, but switches voice calls to the answering machine.
Operation and Usage 3Ć37 T o use telephone mode reception, lift the receiver when the handset or telephone that is connected to the fax machine rings. If you hear a “beep” in the receiv er or the caller states that a fax is going to be sent to you, press the Start button and hang up the recei ver .

T o set your fax machine up for shared reception, refer to the paragraphs under the heading, “Shared Reception Mode on the HP F AX-900 and F AX-950”.
Operation and Usage 3Ć40 T o enable Remote Reception and/or enter a new reception code, press the buttons in the sequence shown and enter the information as indicated. Menu → 6 → Stop Enter → 9 → Enter → → → Enter → T ype new Reception Code → Enter → → Most answering machines can be used with your fax machine.
Operation and Usage 3Ć41 It is recommended that you set the time in fax parameter 19 to match the same length of time as the outgoing message recorded on your answering machine. Factory set time is 20 seconds. T o change the time in fax parameter 19, refer to the information on fax parameters in chapter 4.

Operation and Usage 3Ć43 Size Reduction The fax machines described in this guide can use A4, U.S. letter , and U.S. legal paper sizes for incoming documents. If a fax station sends you a document that cannot be printed on a single page, the fax machine would normally divide the document into two pages.
Operation and Usage 3Ć44 T o set the fax machine for automatic reduction, press the buttons in the sequence sho wn and follow the instructions in the two succeeding paragraphs.
