Operations 11 Oper ati ons P ower up the server blade The HP BladeSyste m Onboard Administrator initiates an au tomatic power - up sequence when the server blade is insta lled. If the def ault setting is changed, use one of the follow ing methods to power up the server blade: • Use a virtual power b utton selection through iL O 2.
Operations 12 • Use the HP BladeSys tem Onboard Administr ator GUI to initiate a shutdown : a. Select the Enclosure Information tab, and then select the Overall checkbox in the Device Bays ite m. b. Initiate a shutdown from the Virtual Power menu: — Select Momentary Press to initiate a controlled sh utdown of applications and the OS.

Press the ac cess panel relea se button. 4. Slide the access pane l towards the rear of the server bl ade, and then lift to remo ve the panel.
Setup 14 S etup O verview To install a se rver blade, co mplete the foll owing steps: 1. Install and configure an HP BladeSystem c - Class encl osure. 2. Install any server blade options. 3. Install interconnect modules in the enclosure. 4. Connect the interconnect modules to the network.

Hardware options installation 25 G eneral DIMM slot popul ation guidelines Observe the follow ing guidelines for all AMP mod es: • Populate DIMM slot s for a processor only if the proc essor is installed.
Hardware options installation 26 • Always install D IMMs in channels 1 and 2 for each in stalled processor. • Do not install DIM Ms in channel 3 for any processo r. • DIMMs installed on channel 1 and channel 2 of an in stalled processor m ust be identical.
Hardware options installation 27 • Observe the general DIMM slot popula tion guidelines (on page 25 ). • Always install D IMMs in channels 1 and 2 for each in stalled processor. • Do not install DIM Ms in channel 3 for any processo r. • DIMM configuration on channel 1 and channel 2 of a processor must be identica l.
Hardware options installation 28 WARNING: To reduce the risk o f personal inj ury from hot surface s, allow the driv es and the internal system components to cool before touchi ng them. To install the component: 1. Power down the serv er blade (on page 11 ).

Hardware options installation 30 5. Remove the heatsink blank. Retain the heatsink blank for fu ture use. CAUTION: Failure to completely open t he processor locking lever p revents the processor fr om seating during installation, leading to hardware damage.
Hardware options installation 31 7. If the processor has separated from the installation tool, carefull y re - insert the processor in the tool. Handle the processor by the edges only, and do not touch the bottom of the processor, especially the contact area.
Hardware options installation 32 8. Align the process or installation tool with the socket, and then install the processor. THE PINS ON TH E SYSTEM BOARD AR E VERY FRAGILE AND E ASILY DAMAGED . CAUTION: THE PINS ON THE SYSTEM B OARD ARE VERY FRAGIL E AND EASILY DAMAGED.
Hardware options installation 33 9. Press the tabs on the processor install ation tool to separate it from the processor, and then remove the tool. 10. Close the pro cessor socket retaining bra cket and the proce ssor locking l ever. The processor sock et cover is automatically ejected .
Hardware options installation 34 11. Remove the t hermal inter face protective cover from the heat sink. CAUTION: To avoid damage to the system board, processor socket, and s crews, do not overtighten the heatsink s crews. Use the wren ch supplied w ith the system to red uce the possibil ity of overtightening the screws.
Hardware options installation 35 • Install Type II mezzan ine cards only on mezzanine 2 c onnector. Optional mezzanine cards enable network connectivity and provide Fi bre Channel support. For mezzanine card locations, see the system board c omponents (on page 7 ).

Hardware options installation 37 CAUTION: Any attempt to remo ve an installed TPM from the sys tem board breaks or disfigures the TPM security r ivet. Upon locating a broken or d isfigured rivet on an insta lled TPM, administrat ors should consider the system compromised and take appropriate measures to ensur e the integrity of the system data.

The utility s ets the system to its original factory sta te, deletes the current hardware configuratio n information, includ ing array setup and disk partitioning, and erases all co nnected hard drives completely.
