1 Welcome Thank you for your HP Photosmart purchase ! This HP Photosmart series is an innovative pairing of camera and pri nter in one easy-to-use device. Th e printer uses HP Real L ife technologies, su ch as red-eye remova l, to make it easy for yo u to get better prints w ith or without a c omputer.

Front view (clos ed) 1 Control panel : Control the ba sic functions of the printer from here. 2 Camera dock cove r : Open this to dock the camera on the printer.
Rear of printer 1 USB port : Connect the printer to a computer using the supplied USB cable here. 2 Video port : Connect the video cable here to use the printer with a television to vie w photos. 3 Power cord connection : Connect the power cord here. Control pa nel 1 On : Press to turn the printer on or off.
Indicator lights 1 Printer battery light : Solid green if the optional batter y is installed and fully charged, flashing if the battery is charging. 2 On light : Solid green if the printer is on, flashing if the pr inter is turning on or off. 3 Photo Fix light : Solid green if Photo Fix is turned on.
Internal battery compartment 1 Battery compartment cover : Open this cover on the bottom of the printer to insert the optional HP Photosmart Internal Battery. 2 Internal Battery : A fully-charged HP Photosma rt Internal Battery has sufficient charge to print approximately 75 photos.
Remote contro l 1 TV : Press to toggle between viewing photos on an attached televisio n monitor or on the camera image displa y. 2 Play/Pause : Press to toggle between viewing photos in a slide show or one at a time. 3 Navigation buttons : Use the arrows to scroll through photos or navigate the menus.
To install the remote battery 1. Remove the battery compartment co ver from the back of the remote. 2. Insert the supplied battery as shown with th e + side up. 3. Slide the cover back into place. Optional accessories There are several opt ional accessories available for the printer t hat enhance its p ortability for printing anywhe re, anytime.

To use the printer menu s 1. With t he camera tu rned off, inse rt it in to the dock on top of the printer. For more information see Dock your camera . 2. Press Menu/OK (3) to open a menu, an d then press the 4–way arrow button to navigate the menu.

3 Paper basics Choose and load paper Learn how to choose t he right paper for your pri nt job and how t o load it into the in put tray for printing. Choose the bes t paper for the job Use HP Advanced Photo Pap er. It is especially desi gned to work with the in ks in your printer to create beaut iful photos.
1 Input tray 2 Paper-width guide 3 Output tray To load pa per 1. Open the output tray. The input tr ay opens automatically. 2. Load up to 20 sheet s of photo paper with t he print side or glossy side facing the front of the printer. If you are using tabbe d paper, load the p aper so tab feeds in la st.
4 Print basics The printer lets you pr oduce amazing prints wi thout even going nea r a computer. Af ter setting up the printe r using the instructio ns that came in the Quick Start , you are just a few steps away from printing your photo s.
3. Make sure the came ra is turn ed off. 4. Press the cam era into the dock so that the connec tor tab in the camera dock pl ugs into the connector slot on the bottom of the camera. 5. In most cases, docking th e camera turns on both the printer and the c amera.
Print photos Important : Your photos are instantly d ry, and can be handled immediately after they are printed. How ever, HP recommends that you leave the printed surfa ce of your phot os exposed to the air for 5–1 0 minutes after prin ting, to allow the colo rs to fully develop before you stack them with other photos or place t hem in albums.
To print a p hoto index 1. Press Menu/OK to open the pri nt menu. 2. Press to select Print I ndex , and then press Menu/ OK . A photo index shows t humbnail views an d index numbers for al l selected ph otos. Use an index card or plain pap er to conserve ph oto paper.

7 Maintain and transport the printer The printer require s very little maint enance. Follow t h e guideli nes in this ch apter to extend the life sp an of the printer and pri nting supplies, an d to ensure that you r prints are always of th e highest quality.
Do not touch here To insert the cartridge 1. If you are replacing a cartri dge, push down and pul l outward on the cart ridge in the cradle to re move it. 2. Hold the replacemen t cartridge with t he label on top. Slide the cartridge at a slig ht upward angle into the cradle so the copper-colore d contacts go in first.
Automatically clean the print cartridge If you notice white lines or singl e-color streaks on your prints, you may ne ed to clean the print cartridge. Do not clean the cart ridge more often t han necessary, since clea ning uses up ink. To clean the print cartr idge 1.
Caution Do not leave the print ca rtridge outside the pri nter for more than 30 minutes. Ink nozzl es exposed to the air l onger than this may dry o ut and cause printing probl ems. 4. Lightly moisten a cotton swab with distilled water and squeeze any excess water from the swab.
– The check marks verify that the print cartridge is installed correctly and functioning p roperly. – If an “x” is displayed to the left of any of the bars, align the print cartridge aga in. If the “x” is still displayed , replace the print cartridge.
To download the so ftware (Mac) Note Make sure you are connecte d to the Internet before you use the HP Photosmart Update ap plication. 1. Start HP Photosmart Mac. 2. Click the Appl ications tab, and then click HP Software Update . 3. Follow the onscre en instructions to check for sof tware updates.
To store photo pape r ● Store the photo pap er in its original packa ging or in a reseala ble plastic bag. ● Store the packaged ph oto paper on a flat, coo l, and dry surface. ● Return unused photo paper to the plastic bag. Pap er left in the printe r or exposed to the elements may curl.

8 Troubleshooting The HP Photosmart A430 serie s printer is designed to be reliable and easy to use. This section answers frequent ly asked questions about us ing the printer and printing without a computer.
I can't dock my came ra on the printer. Solution Only HP Photosmart digita l camera models M425, M525, M527, M627, R725, M727, R827, R927 , and R967 are support ed. Do not attempt to dock an incompatible cam era. Also, if your prin ter came with more than one bezel, make sure you are using the correct beze l for your camera.

The camera button s are not working. Solution You are pushing buttons on t he camera after it is placed in the camera dock. Most camera buttons are disabled when the camera it is in the cam era dock. Use the buttons o n the control panel i nstead. The printer does not recognize the PictB ridge camera connecte d to the camera port.
● Make sure the pow er cord is connected t o the printer and to an active AC power outlet. ● The printer is running o ff the optional HP Photosm a rt Intern al Battery. Rechargeable camera ba tteries will not charge unless the prin ter is connected to an AC power outlet with the power cord.
No page came out of the printer. Solution ● The printer m ay need attention. Read the camera im age display for instructions . ● The power may be off or the re may be a loose connection. Ma ke sure that the power is on and the pow er cord is securely connected.
