Operations 27 To install the component: 1. Place the a ccess panel o n top of the server with the hood latch open. Allow the panel to extend past the rear of the server ap proximately 1.25 cm (0.5 in ch). 2. Push down on t he hood latch. The access pan el slides to a closed position.

Operations 38 8. Release th e full - length expansion board retainer latch and remo ve the expansion boar d. IMPORTANT: If removing an expansion b oard from PCI slot 2, rel ease the retainer latch on the system board, and then remove the expansion board from the system.

Setup 40 S pace and airflow requirements Tower server In a tower config uration, leave at least a 7 .6 - cm (3 - in) clearance space at the front and back of the s erver for proper ventilat ion.
Setup 41 CAUTION: To reduce the risk of d amage to the equip me nt when installing third - party opti ons: • Do not permit opt ional equipment to impede airfl ow around the server or to increase the internal rack tempe rature beyond the maximum all owable limits.
Setup 42 WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment, be sure that: • The levelin g jacks are exten ded to the floor. • The full weigh t of the rack rests o n the leveling ja cks. • The stabilizing feet are attached to the rack if it is a single - rack installation.
Setup 43 I dentifying tower ser ver shipping carton con tents Unpack the server s hipping carton and loc ate the materials and docu me ntation necessary for installing the server.
Setup 44 2. Install th e server base feet . 3. Connect peri pheral device s to the server. WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, fire, or damage to the equi pment, do not plug telephone or tele communications conne ctors into RJ - 45 connectors.
Setup 45 WARNING: This server is ver y heavy. To reduce t he risk of person al in jury or damage to the equipment: • Observe local oc cupational health and safe ty requirements and gu idelines for manual material handling.
Setup 46 Provisioning ca n configure the server and insta ll an operating system, eliminating the need for SmartStart CDs and Smart Update Firmware DVDs. To install an operatin g system on the server with I ntelligent Provisioni ng (local or rem ote): a.
Hardware options installation 47 H ar d w ar e optio ns ins tallati on Introduction If more than one opt ion is being installed, read the installation instr uctions for all the hard ware options and identify simila r steps to streamline the ins tallation process.
Hardware options installation 48 IMPORTANT: If installing a p rocessor with a faster speed, upd ate the system ROM b efore installing the proce ssor. To install a proces sor: 1. Do one of the followin g: o For tower models, open and remove the bezel (" Remove t he tower bezel " on page 22 ).
Hardware options installation 49 9. Remove the cl ear processor socket cover. Reta in the processor socket cover for future use. 10. Install the processor. Verify that the processor is fully seated in the proc essor retaining bracket by visually inspecting th e processor installati on guides on either side o f the processor.
Hardware options installation 50 CAUTION: Do not press down on the pr ocessor. Pressing down on the processor may caus e damage to the processor socket and the system board.
Hardware options installation 51 14. Align the heatsink for correct air flow orientation, and then ins tall the heatsink. CAUTION: When tightening the heatsink screws, tighten one pair of d iagonally opposite s crews halfway, and then tighten the other pair of sc rews halfway.
Hardware options installation 52 a. Disconnect all fan connectors from the system board. b. Loosen the th umbscrew s on either side of th e fan cage. c. Remove the fa n cage from the serv er. NOTE: The processor kit fan is not required if the Redundant Enablement Kit is installed and all four fans are i nstalled.
Hardware options installation 53 18. Install the fan into location 4 of the fan cage, and then rou te the fan cable through the cable m anagement slot. 19. Install the fan module into the server, tighten the two thumbscrews, and then connect all fan cables to the system board.
Hardware options installation 54 M emory options IMPORTANT: This server does not support mixin g LRDIMMs, RDI MMs , or UDIMMs. Attem pting to mix any combinat ion of these DIMMs can cause th e server to halt during BIOS initialization.
Hardware options installation 55 Qualified memory is performance - tuned for HP ProLiant and BladeSys tem servers and provide s future enhanced support through HP Active Health and manageability s oftware. Certain performance features are unique with HP SmartMemory.
Hardware options installation 56 appear as a dual - rank DIMM to the syste m. The LRDIMM buff er also isolates t he electrical loa ding of the DRAM from the syst em to allow for faster operation .

Insert the redundant power supply assembly into the server chassis. b. Secure the three internal screws and the thumbscrew on the redundant power su pply back.
Hardware options installation 88 2. If only one power sup ply is installed, instal l a power supply blank into the emp ty power supply slot. 3. Install the two capac itor holders on top o f the redundant power suppl y assembly.

Hardware options install ation 96 15. Using a T - 10 screwdriver, remove the EMI sh ield covering th e drive bays 5 an d 6. 16. Install one or two dr ives into drive bays 5 and 6. 17. Install a drive blan k into any unused drive bays. 18. Install any PCI cards r emoved.

Hardware options installation 98 7. Remove the s erver base feet . 8. Remove the b ase cover: a. Remove all screws securing the base cover to th e chassis. b. Place two Tor x screwdriver s in the bezel hing e holes to help slid e the base cover to wards the rear of the server, and then remove th e base cover.
Hardware options installation 99 10. To block the server base fe et holes, insta ll the server base b lank covers. 11. Turn the serv er over, and then remove the a ccess panel (" Remove the access panel " on pag e 25 ). 12. Remove the P CI air baffle (on page 28 ), if install ed.
Hardware options installation 100 17. Route the di scovery servi ce cable from the left rack ear bezel thro ugh the chassis hooks. 18. Connect the discovery service cable to the discovery ser vice cable connector.

Once installed, the TPM become s a permanent pa rt of the system board. • When installing or replacing hardware, HP s ervice providers cannot enable the TPM or the encryption technology.
