As shown in Figure 2.1 the chimney should: • Be installed through the warm airspace enclosed by the building envelope. This helps to produce more draft, especially during lighting and die-down of the fi re.

This fi replace may be used as a room divider , installed along a wall, across a corner or used in an exterior chase.

If you are using a decorative surround constructed of combustible material, it must be located within the shaded area de fi ned in Figure 3.
Heat & Glo • RHW-485 • 33221 Rev O • 08/06 12 E. Construct the Chase A chase is a vertical boxlike structure built to enclose the fi replace and/or its vent system. V ertical chimneys that run on the outside of a building may be, but are not required to be, installed inside a chase.
Heat & Glo • RHW-485 • 33221 Rev O • 08/06 13 A. Install the Outside Air Kit Using an outside air kit is highly recommended to minimize the effects of negative pressure within the structure. W e recommend you utilize the shortest duct run to optimize the performance of the outside air kit.

Heat & Glo • RHW-485 • 33221 Rev O • 08/06 18 B. Using Offsets/Returns T o bypass any overhead obstructions, the chimney may be offset using a 15-deg (SL315) or 30-deg (SL330) of fset/re- turn. An offset and return may be attached together or a chimney section(s) may be used between an offset and return.

Assemble the Chimney Sections Attach either a straight chimney section or an offset to the top of the fi replace (depending on your installation require- ment). Chimney sections are locked together by pushing downward until the top section meets the stop bead on the lower section.
Heat & Glo • RHW-485 • 33221 Rev O • 08/06 20 E. Install the Attic Insulation Shield An insulation shield must be installed when there is a pos- sibility of insulation coming into contact with the factory built chimney system. • Bend the tabs at the top of the attic insulation shield inward.

Heat & Glo • RHW-485 • 33221 Rev O • 08/06 28 D. Flue Damper The fl ue damper must be in full open position, and is oper- ated by moving the handle up toward the top of the fi replace. Before lighting the fi re, verify this by looking up from the in- side of the fi replace.
