T o be safe, you will ne ed assist ance and a forklif t or a hoist when removing the machine from t he crate.
- 1 4 - G0 64 0 X 1 7 " Wood / M etal Bandsaw A ssemb ly T o assemb le the bandsaw : 1. Thread an M8-1.25 hex nut half way up the length of the included M8-1.
G06 40X 1 7 " Wood / Metal Bandsaw - 1 5- 8. Attach the table to the trunnion with four M8- 1.25 x 16 hex bolts, 8mm lock washers, and 8mm flat washers. 9. With the blade teeth pointing downward, slide the blade through the table slot. 10. Slide the blade through the upper and lower blade guides, and mount it over the upper and lower wheels.
- 1 6 - G06 40X 1 7 " Wood / M etal Bandsaw 19. Pull the fence lock lever up and place the fence assembly on the front rail, as shown in Figure 16 .
G06 40X 1 7 " Wood / Metal Bandsaw - 1 7 - Bl ade T rac kin g Serious personal injury can occur if the machine starts while your hand is touching the bandsaw wheel during tracking adjustments. Disconnect power from the bandsaw before performing blade tracking adjustments.

G06 40X 1 7 " Wood / Metal Bandsaw - 1 9- A pr operly tensioned blade is essential for making accurate cuts and is required befor e making man y bandsaw adjustments. ( E very time y ou replace the blade, per form this procedure bec ause all blades tension dif ferently .
-20- G 06 40X 1 7 " Wood / Metal B andsaw The b lade guid es pro vide sid e-to -side sup por t to help keep the blade straight while cut ting. The blade guides are designed to be adjusted in t wo wa ys —for ward / back ward and side -to- side. To adjust the upper and lower blade guides : 1.
G06 40X 1 7 " Wood / Metal Bandsaw - 21 - Th e su pp or t b ear in g s are po si ti o ne d be hi nd the b lade for suppor t during cut ting o perations. Proper adjust ment of the suppor t bearings is an impor tant par t of making accurate cuts and also keeps the blade t eeth from coming in contact with the guide bearings while c utt ing.
-22- G0640X 1 7 " Wood / M etal Bandsaw A dj u sti n g P osi ti v e St op An adjustable positive stop allows the table to easily return to 90° after tilting. After adjusting the positive stop to 90°, the pointer on the table tilt scale should be adjusted to the 0° mark to ensure that the table tilt scale is accurate.
G06 40X 1 7 " Wood / Metal Bandsaw -23- Al i gn in g T able T o ensure cut ting accuracy when the table is first installed, the table should be alig ned so that the miter slot is parallel to the bandsaw blade. This procedure works best with a 3 ⁄ 4 " blade installed.
-2 4- G 06 40X 1 7 " Wood / Metal Band saw The fence must be p arallel to the miter slot in order to yiel d accurate results. T o che ck / align the fence p arallel with th e miter slot : 1. Mount the fence next to the miter slot and examine the edges of each.

-26- G0 64 0 X 1 7 " Wood / Metal B andsaw Personal injury or death can occur if the bandsaw starts during table adjust - ment. Disconnect power from the bandsaw before performing table adjust - ments.
G06 40X 1 7 " Wood / Metal Bandsaw - 27 - Bl ade T erm in ol ogy Selecting the r ight blade f or the cut requires a knowledge of various blade characteristics. Bl ade Ter min olo gy A. Kerf: The amount of material removed by the blade during cutting.
-28- G0 640X 1 7 " Wood / Metal Bandsaw To oth Sty le When selecting blades, another option to con- sider is the shape, gullet size, teeth set and teeth angle—otherwise known as “Tooth Style." Many blade manufacturers offer variations of the four basic styles shown in Figure 37 .
G06 40X 1 7 " Wood / Metal Bandsaw -29- Bl ade Car e A bandsaw blade is a delicate piec e of steel that is subjec ted to tremendous strain. Y ou can obtain longer use from a bandsa w blade if you giv e it fair treatment and alwa ys u se the appropriate feed rate for your operation.
-3 0 - G0 640X 1 7" W oo d / Metal Bandsaw Bl ade Chan ges T o remove a blade : 1. DISCONNECT BANDSAW FROM POWER! 2. Release the blade tension by pointing the blade tension quick release lever up. 3. Remove the table insert and the table pin. Adjust the upper and lower guide bearings as far away as possible from the blade.
G06 40X 1 7 " Wood / Metal Bandsaw -3 1 - Bl ade Sp ee d This bandsa w fea tures a variable blade s peed between 1 0 0 – 36 0 0 F PM. There a re two blade speed ranges. A fast range for wood cut ting and a slow range for metal cut ting. The variable s peed dial c ontrols the blade sp eed within each range.

G06 40X 1 7 " Wood / Metal Bandsaw - 4 1 - SE CTION 8 : MAINT EN ANC E The bandsaw is equipped with a lower wheel brush. The brush should be checked daily and cleaned when it becomes dirty. There is an adjust - ment bracket that allows the brush to be adjusted for bristle wear.
- 42- G0640X 1 7 " Wood / M etal Bandsaw Gu ide Pos t Gear s 1. DISCONNECT BANDSAW FROM POWER! 2. Lower the guide post down so the upper guide bearings almost touch the table, then open the upper wheel cover to access the gears, shown in Figure 56 .
G06 40X 1 7 " Wood / Metal Bandsaw -43 - As the ba nds aw ages, the rubber tires on the wheels may need to be redressed if they harden or glaze ov er . Redressing t he rubber tires improv es blade tracking and redu ces vibration / blade lead. If the rub ber tires become too worn , t hen blade tracking will b ecome extremely dif ficult .
