NOTICE Changes in the blade tension may change the blade tracking. 6. Loosen the lock nut on the blade tracking knob threads so the blade tracking knob will rotate for adjustments.
G055 5 X 1 4 " Ex treme Series Bandsaw - 1 9 - A properly tensioned blade is essential for mak- ing accurate cuts and is a prerequisite for making many bandsaw adjustments. To tension the bandsaw blade: 1. Make sure that you have performed the Test Run instructions on the previous page and that the blade is tracking properly.
-20- G 0555X 1 4" E xtreme Series Bandsaw 6. Tighten the lock bolt. 7. Loosen the thumbscrew on the support bear- ing adjustment shaft. 8. Use the knurled knob to position the support bearing approximately 0.016" away from the back of the blade as illustrated in Figure 20 .
G055 5 X 1 4 " Ex treme Series Bandsaw - 21 - The blade guides provide side-to-side support to help keep the blade straight while cutting. The blade guides are designed to be adjusted in two ways—forward/backward and side-to-side. Properly adjusted blade guides are essential to making accurate cuts.
-22- G0555X 1 4 " Ex treme Series Bandsaw NOTICE Whenever changing a blade or adjusting ten- sion and tracking, the upper and lower blade guide bearings and guide-blocks must be re- adjusted before cutting operations. NOTICE The blade guides should only have light pressure against the blade.
G055 5 X 1 4 " Ex treme Series Bandsaw -23- The e x tension table must be le vel with the main table. It is impor t ant to k ee p the extension table at least 1 ⁄ 8 " awa y from the main table during level ing to allow the table room for tilting.
-2 4- G 0555X 1 4" E xtreme Series Bandsaw To ensure cutting accuracy, the fence must be parallel with the miter slot. To align the fence parallel with the miter slot: 1. If the fence is mounted on the left-hand side of the blade, remove it and remount it on the right-hand side of the blade.

-28- G05 55 X 1 4" Ex treme Series Bandsaw Figure 31. Typical resawing operation. "Resawing" ( Figure 31 ) means cutting the thic k - ness of a board into two or more thinner boards. The ma ximum board width t hat can be resawn is limited by the maximum c utting height of the bandsaw .
G055 5 X 1 4 " Ex treme Series Bandsaw -29- One of the benefits of a band saw is its abilit y to cut multiple copies of a par ticular shape by stack - ing workpiec es together and cut ting t hem as one. Before making stacked cuts, ensure that both the table and the blade are properly adjusted to 9 0°; otherwise, any error will be c ompounded.
-3 0 - G0555X 1 4" E xtreme Series Bandsaw Selecting the right blade requires a knowledge of va rious blade c haracte risti cs to match the blade with the part icular c utting operation. Bl ade Le ngt h Measured by the circumference, blade lengt hs are usually unique to the brand of your bandsaw and the distanc e between wh eels.
G055 5 X 1 4 " Ex treme Series Bandsaw -3 1 - • Hook : The teeth on this style have a posi- tive angle (downward) which makes them dig into the material, and the gullets are usu - ally rounded for easier waste removal. These blades are excellent for the tough demands of resawing and ripping thick material.
-32- G0555X 1 4" E x treme Series Bandsaw To remove the blade: 1. DISCONNECT BANDSAW FROM POWER! 2. Release the tension lever. 3. Remove the table insert and the table pin. Adjust the upper and lower guide blocks away from the blade. 4. Open the upper and lower wheel covers and slide the blade off both wheels.
G055 5 X 1 4 " Ex treme Series Bandsaw -33 - You may need to recalibrate the fence scale after changing or adjusting the blade, or if the scale is not producing accurate cuts. Recalibrate the fence scale by adjusting the hairline indicator on the fence and testing your adjustment by cutting a piece of scrap wood.

-3 8- G0 555X 1 4" Ex treme Series Bandsaw To ensure optimum power transfer from the motor to the blade, the belt must be in good condition and operate under proper tension. The belt should be replaced if has for cracks, fraying, or excessive wear.
G055 5 X 1 4 " Ex treme Series Bandsaw -39 - To replace the belt: 1. DISCONNECT BANDSAW FROM POWER! 2. Open both wheel covers. 3. Remove the bandsaw blade. 4. Loosen the motor mount bolts shown in Figure 43 . Figure 43. Wheel mount bolt. Wheel Mount Bolt 5.
- 40 - G05 55 X 1 4" Ex treme Series Bandsaw To ensure accuracy when cutting stacked workpieces, the table should be 90˚ to the back of the blade as shown in Figure 44 . If the table is not perpendicular to the back of the blade, the table needs to be shimmed.
G055 5 X 1 4 " Ex treme Series Bandsaw - 4 1 - Wheel alignment is one of the easiest ways to ensure you get optimal performance from your bandsaw.
- 42 - G0 555X 1 4 " Ex treme Series Bandsaw 2. Remove the blade from the saw, then remove the wheel that needs to be shimmed. 3. Shim washers work well because they are available in a wide range of thicknesses. Measure how many you need and place them on the mounting shaft.
G055 5 X 1 4 " Ex treme Series Bandsaw -43 - Bl ade T en si oner Over the life of the machine , the b lade tensioner syst em may need to be reset for correc t opera - tion. To reset the blade tensioner: 1. DISCONNECT BANDSAW FROM POWER! 2. Release the tension lever shown in Figure 49 and remove the bandsaw blade.
