Getting Started Hello, and wel come to Final Vinyl, st er eo r ecor ding and editing softwar e fr om Griffin. Final Vinyl was originally cr eated f or use with Griffin iMic, to make it easier t o digitize your r ecor d coll ection. But iMic and Final Vinyl have many mor e uses, besides.
iMic Setup Plug your audio devic e into iMic’ s In jack, and plug iMic into an unused USB port on your comput er . iMic has a select or switch on the side; for mos t turntabl es, this switch should be set to MIC le vel. If your de vice has its own pr eamp, switch to Line.

Final Vinyl Contr ols 1. Zoom Slider: Allows y ou to zoom in and out of the r ecor ded waveform, to vie w it in mor e or l ess detail f or editing and placing marks. 2. Playthr ough/Monitor Button: Allows y ou to hear the audio that is coming into Final Vinyl, whether or not you ar e actually r ecor ding it.
Recor ding from a T urntable T o make the audio sound normal, many turntabl es need a special filter setting, known as the “RIAA Curve.” Y our old home ster eo’ s turntable input had a special equalization cir cuit built into it (r emember when ster eos had “Phono” inputs?).
Recor ding and Monitoring Audio Y ou’r e r eady to start r ecor ding with Final Vinyl. Y ou may use any audio device y ou choose; her e, we use a turntabl e as an example. 1. Pr ess the Rec or d button; Final Vinyl will start r ecor ding. If you wish to monitor the inc oming audio, click the “Playthr ough/ Monitor” button.
Playing Back Audio Y ou will know when Final Vinyl is r eady to play back your r ecor ding when the wavef orm is visible in the window . 1. T o play the rec ording, pr ess the Play button (or pr ess the spac e bar on your k eyboar d). Y ou can use the Zoom slider to view the wavef orm in gr eater detail.
Mor e About EQ Settings The sliders in the EQ window l et you set the bass, tr ebl e, and mid-range to contr ol the way your music sounds. The Gain slider at the far right of the EQ window will incr ease or decrease the ov erall volume within a range of +/- 20dB.
Adding and Removing Eff ects Final Vinyl allows y ou to add multipl e effects t o your r ecor ding. 1. Click the ”+” button and choose the eff ect you wish to add. Y ou can add as many as you want, going back and forth among them and changing settings to get the best pos sibl e sound.
AU Effects In the pr ovided Eff ects list, you will see many names pr eceded by “ AU.” Audio Units (AU) ar e a set of Appl e-designed plug-ins pr ovided by Cor e Audio in Mac OS X.
Other Action Menu Items 1. Auto Mark: This is a function that places marks in silent ar eas of your r ecor ding, such as the spaces between songs. This pr ovides an easy, automatic way to separ ate your r ecor ding into multiple tr acks. 2. Clear All Marks: As the name implies, this action item r emoves Marks you may have plac ed in your wavef orm.
Using Auto Mark: Configuration If you have r ecor ded an entire album as one wavef orm, you may want to save the tracks as separ ate fil es. Position the time tracking cur sor wher e you want a split to oc cur, and pr ess the “Insert Mark er” button.
