1. Checking the Contents Be sure your Pro Scratch 1 was shipped with the follo wing: 1) Pro Scratch 1 Professional CD play er . 2) Oper ating instructions (this booklet). 3) One (1) set of RCA cables . 4) One (1) 1/8” mini plug. 5) W arranty card. 2.
(a) F ADER “Q” ST ART CONTROL: This f eature is used in conjunction with American DJ mixers that also feature “F ader Q Star t” control. For best results use this feature with two (2) Pro Scratch 1 play ers. Connect your Pro Scratch 1’ s as described in the set-up section of this manual.

7. MEMOR Y BUTT ON - This button allows you to program up to 3 cue points or three samples in to the three FLASH BUTT ONS (6) . Y ou also use this button to recall samples. 8. SAMPLER BUTT ON - This is used to activ ate the sampler function. When this function is acti- v ated a created sample will play in a continuos loop mode.
20. BOP - During play mode, pressing the BOP button will instantly return pla y to the last set cue point without interruption of music. Use this function to create a stutter eff ect. 21. ( -) PITCH BEND BUTT ON - The (-) pitch bend function creates a momentar y “Slow Down” in the CD’ s BPM’ s (Beats per minute) while it is pla ying.
“Q” series mix ers. 35. DIGIT AL OUT - Use this connection to create near perfect copies of your disc to a Mini disc, CD-R, or any other digital recording device .
1. LO ADING/EJECTING DISCS The Pro Scratch 1 can only play regular 5 inch CDs. 3 inch, odd shaped, and ov al CDs are not compatible . When loading a CD into the play er alwa ys hold the disc by it edge (see Figure 7). Load the disc label side up and slide it in the disc slot.

8. SCANNING (F AST FOR W ARD / F AST REVERSE) This function gives y ou a f ast search through a disk or trac k. T urn the SEARCH WHEEL (5) in clockwise direction f or f ast forw ard or tur n the wheel counterclockwise for fast rev erse.
Storing A Cue P oint: Once you hav e set your CUE P oint by one of the two means listed on page 12, you may store your cue point in one of the FLASH BUTT ONS (6) . Either a CUE POINT or a SAMPLE (See creating a sample loop on page 14) can be stored into a FLASH BUTT ONS (6) , not both.

Bef ore you can edit y our seamless loop y ou obviously must first hav e created a seamless loop to edit.
12. Using the Built In Sampler: Y our Pro Scratch 1 comes with a built in sampler . Y ou ma y store up to three samples on the three FLASH BUTT ON (6) . Y our sample can be a maximum of 6.5 seconds in length. A sample can be recalled while a CD is pla ying, while the CD drive is in P A USE MODE, or e ven without the CD in the pla yer .
Changing the Sample Parameter s: Changing the sample parameters allows you to change the sample's volume and pitch. The parameters values for both the pitch and volume settings range from 00:00 to 20:00, 00:00 being the low est value . A higher v alue will increase the pitch percentage or v olume.
13. Re verse Play: Re v erse play allows you to play a track, loop, or sample bac kwards . This function is activated by pressing the REV/PLA Y BUTT ON (26) as in figure 31. This function will react differently to diff erent pla yback modes: - Reverse track/disc play .
15. FLASH ST ART BUTT ONS (6): These button are used to store your samples and cue points. Only a sample or a cue point can be stored in to each of these three banks. When a sample is store in to these banks you may use the sample star ting point as a cue point.
17. PITCH BENDING: This function will momentar ily increase or decrease the tracks playbac k speed. There are two wa ys to operate this function with the (-) & (+) PITCH BUTT ONS (21 & 22) or with the JOG WHEEL (14) . The maximum pitch bend percentage allowed is +/- 100%.
18. PITCH ADJUSTMENTS: This function will increase or decrease the tracks pla yback speed or "PITCH," this is not a momentar y change as in "PITCH BENDING" on page 19. The maximum pitch bend percentage allowed is +/-16%. The PITCH SLIDER (17) is used to decrease or increase the pla yback pitch.
BASIC OPERA TIONS - BUIL T -IN EFFECTS The Pro Scratch 1™ comes with nine built in effects . These eff ects can be used one at a time or you ma y choose to overlap the effects and use up to four at a time. The Built-in effects include Scratch, F ade, Skid, Coast,Flanger , Echo , Robot, T ransf or m, and P an.
BASIC OPERA TIONS - BUIL T -IN EFFECTS FLANGER/ECHO/ROBO T EFFECT : The flanger eff ect distor ts the output signal and create an eff ect similar to the frequency phasing in and out of each other . The ECHO effect adds an echo to your output signal. The ROBO T eff ect distor ts the output to simulates a sci-fi robot voice.

BASIC OPERA TIONS - FX MIX FX MIX - F ADE CONTR OL: This function works with the FLANGER/ECHO and the TRANS/P AN eff ects. This function uses the time duration of the F ADE effect. This functions pla ys the selected effect (FLANGER/ECHO and/or the TRANS/P AN) f or the duration of the fade setting and then retur ns to nor mal play .
BASIC OPERA TIONS - FX MIX FX MIX - BOP CONTROL: This function allows you to engage either the COAST or SKID effects at any point of a trac k during nor mal playbac k. The effect will play out according to its parameters and then resume nor mal playbac k.
1. PRECA UTIONS ON HANDLING COMP A CT DISCS • Do not allow finger pr ints, oil or dust to get on the surface of the disc. If the disc is dir ty , wipe it off with a soft dr y cloth. • Do not use benzene, thinner , w ater , record spra y , electrostatic-proof chemicals, or silicone-treated cloths to clean discs.
