Installation 3A0149C 7 Air Line 1. Install an air filter (A) on the gun air line to ensure a dr y , clea n air supply to the gun. D ir t and m oisture can ruin the appear ance of y our finished workpiece. See F IG . 1. 2. Install an air pressure reg ulator (C) on the gun air line to control air pressu re to the gun.
Setup 8 3A0149C Setup Flush Bef ore Using Equipment 1. The equipment was tested wi th lightweight oil, which is left in the f luid passages to prot ect par ts. T o av oid contaminat ing your fluid with o il, flush the equipment with a compatib le solve nt bef ore using the equip- ment.
Setup 3A0149C 9 Re verse-A-Clean ® (RA C) Tip Assembl y Model 24C857 gu ns use a Rev erse-A-Clean ® (RAC) tip . T o ass emb le the RAC tip , in sert the seat housing into the air cap assembly . Inser t the SwitchTip . Inser t the gask et seat. Screw the RA C tip assembly onto the gun and tighten firmly by hand.

Operation 3A0149C 11 How the Air -Assisted Spra y Gun Operates The air-assisted spr a y gun combines airless and air spra ying concepts . The spra y tip sh apes the fluid into a f an patter n, as does a conv entional air less spra y tip.
Operation 12 3A0149C HVLP Operation NO TE: F or HVLP oper ation, the atomization air must not e xceed 10 psi. Use HVLP V er ification Kit 24 C788 to v er- ify air psi. NO TE: The re is no f an adjustment when using RAC tips and caps. Fluid Application Alwa ys hold th e gun at a right angle from the su rf ace.

Daily Gun Care, Flushing, and Cleanin g 14 3A0149C General System Maintenance 1. Relie v e the pressure, pag e 10. 2. Clean the fluid and air line f ilters daily . 3. Chec k f or any fl uid leakage from the gun an d fluid hoses. Tighten fittings or replace equipment as needed.

Daily Gun Care, Flushing, and Cleanin g 16 3A0149C 13. If th e diffuser was removed, trigg er the gun wh ile yo u reinstall the diffuser (5) with the gun tool (30). Tighten the diff user securely to obta in a good seal. T orque to 155-165 in-l b (18-19 N•m).

Troubleshooting 3A0149C 19 Fluttering or spitting spray . Insufficient fluid supply . Adjust fluid regulator or fill fluid supply tank. Air in paint supply line . Chec k, tighten pump siphon hose connec- tions , ble ed air from paint line . Attempting to “f eather” (par tially trigger the gun).

Repair 3A0149C 21 7. Reinsta ll the seat gasket (5b , carbide models only), seat (5c), and seat nut (5d). T orque to 45-5 0 in-lb . Be sure not to ov er tigh ten the nut. NO TE: • When reinstalling the carbi de seat (5c), the tapered end of the seat (red side) m ust point to ward the gun tip .
Repair 22 3A0149C Air V alve Repair 1. Unscrew the spri ng cap (11) from the ba ck of the gun body (1 ) using the gun tool (30) . Remove the two sprin gs (15 and 19) an d the shaft (9). 2. Push the air v alv e assemb ly (8*) out the bac k of the gun. See F IG .

Repair 24 3A0149C Reassembl y NO TE: See Repair Kits , page 20. 1. Install the tube g asket (22* ) in the gun. Handti ghten the fluid tube con nector (C) into the gu n’ s fluid inlet. Handtighten th e air inlet fitting (17) and screw (20). T orque the fluid tube connector t o 150-160 i n-lb (17-18 N•m).
