Installation 14 333309E Installation Prepare the Operator All persons who oper ate the equipment m ust be trained in the opera tion of all system components as we ll as the proper handlin g of all fluids. All operators must thor- oughly read all instruction man uals, tags , and labels bef ore operat ing the equipment.
Installation 333309E 15 Gr ounding The f ollowing component s must be grounde d. 1. Pump See F IG . 4. V er ify that t he ground screw (GS) is attached a nd tightened securely to th e air motor . Connect the othe r end of the ground wire (S) to a true ear th gro und.
Setup 16 333309E Setup See F IG . 2. 1. Install suction hoses ( V A, VB) to the pump fluid inlets (U). See page 46 . 2. Connect solvent supply (DD) to solv ent flush inlet (J). 3. Attach on e end of the gun fluid supp ly hose (M) to the mix er (X) outlet.
Setup 333309E 17 A and B Components NO TE: Mater ial suppliers can vary in how they ref er to plura l component materials. Be aw are that when f acing the man ifold on the propor- tioner: • Component A is on the left side . • Component B is on the right side .
Setup 18 333309E 7. When y ou hav e a large enough sample , mov e both hoses bac k into the wa ste containers, a t exact ly the same time. Then shu t off the air to all the pumps.
Operation 333309E 19 Operation Pressure Relief Pr ocedure F ollow the Pr essure Relief Procedure whene ver yo u see this symbol. 1. Engage the gun trigger loc k, if present. 2. See F IG . 2. T ur n off the b leed-type master air valv e (E) and air to supply pumps , if present.
Operation 20 333309E 6. Standar d Procedure : Direct A and B pump outlet hoses (CC) fr om manif old (F) to a g rounded metal waste pail. Procedure for P olyester Model 24W609: Direct A and B return hoses and tubes to a grounded met al pail. 7. Open bl eed-type air va lve (E).
Operation 333309E 21 7. Allow pumps to run until mix ed mater ial is flowing from the front of the gun then release the gun t r ig- ger . 8. Engage the gun trigger loc k.
Operation 22 333309E P ackages with AA Guns 1. See F IG . 7. Close off pa tter n adjustm ent air by tur n- ing knob (AA) cloc kwise (in) all the w ay . This sets gun f or its widest patt er n. 2. See F IG . 8. Set atomizing a ir pressure a t about 5 ps i (0.
Operation 333309E 23 4. Engage the gun trigger loc k. 5. Remove the spra y tip and/or air cap . 6. Mov e mix manif old handle to stand by position. Open B side solv ent flush v alve . 7. Open b leed type air v alv e on the solv ent pump to provide air to flus h the pump.
Operation 24 333309E pail, until the mix ed fluid is purged from the system and clean solv ent is flo wing. 13. Close A side solvent flush v alve . 14. Open B side solv ent flush v alve . 15. T r igger gun f or 3 seconds into a g rounded metal waste pa il holding a metal par t of gun firmly to the pail.
Operation 333309E 25 18. T ur n of f air regula tor to solvent pump. Close the bl eed type air supply valv e to the solv ent pump . 19. Disengage the trigger loc k and trigger the gu n into a grounded me tal waste pail until flo w stops and pres- sure is relie ved.
Operation 26 333309E Using the Pr opor tioning Pump System When the system is primed and oper ating, check the fluid outlet pressure gauges. Check the gauges f re- quently while using the system an d note the pressures.
Operation 333309E 27 Monitoring the Pr opor tioner During Operation When the spra y gun is tr iggered: • Both A and B fluid pressure gauges should be increasing an d decreasing in pressure at the same time. • If one pressure or the ot her increases while the other decreases the propo r tioner is not working cor- rectly .
Operation 28 333309E 8. Reconn ect the suction tube assembly . Adjust Pump Assembl y for Balanced Y oke Forces At each ratio setu p the pump assembly mu st be adjusted to bala nce the yoke f orces. T o adjust the pump assembly: 1. Loosen mounting plat e screw (44, 2 locations) 2.
Maintenance 333309E 29 Maintenance Care of the Pump • If a supply contai ner is dr y , stop the pump immedi- ately and reliev e the pressure. Refill the container , and pr ime the system . Be sure to elim inate all of the air from the system. • K eep the throat packing re servoirs one-half filled with TSL.
Maintenance 30 333309E We t C u p The wet cup helps to provide consistent lubr ication for the pump pac kings and to ke ep exposed r od from being coated with dried paint. T o maint ain the wet cup: 1. Fill the wet cup one-half full with Graco Throat Seal Liquid (TSL).
Troubleshooting 333309E 31 T roub leshooting NO TE: Check all possib le problems and causes before disassemb ling the pump . T o av oid serious injury , alwa ys Relie ve the pressure bef ore checking or ser vicing the equipment.
Troubleshooting 32 333309E * T o determine if the fluid hose or gun is obstructed, relie v e the pressure. Disconnect the fluid hose and place a con- tainer at the p ump fluid outlet to cat ch any fluid. T ur n on the air just e nough to star t the pump .
