Installation 6 311001C Installation T ypical Installation The typical installation sho wn in F IG . 1 is only a guide for selecting and installing air- assisted spra y systems. Con- tact y our Graco d istributor f or assistan ce in designing a system to me et your needs.
Installation 311001C 7 Air Line 1. Install an air filter (A) on the gun air line to ensure a dr y , clean air supply to the gun. D ir t a nd moisture can ruin the appear ance of y our finished w orkpiece. See F IG . 1. 2. Install an air pressure reg ulator (C) on the gun air line to control air pressur e to the gun.
Setup 8 311001C Setup Flush Bef ore Using Equipment 1. The equipment was tested wi th lightweight oil, which is left in the f luid passages to protect par ts. T o av oid contaminat ing your fluid with oil, flush the equ ipment with a compatib le solvent bef ore using the equip- ment.
Setup 311001C 9 Rever s e-A-Clean ® (RA C) Tip Model 249238 guns use a Re verse-A-Clean ® (RAC) tip . T o assemble the RA C tip , in ser t the seat housing into the air cap assembly . Inser t the SwitchTip. Inser t the gasket seat . Screw the RA C tip assembly onto the gun and tight en firmly by hand.

Operation 311001C 11 How the Air -Assisted Spray Gun Operates The air-assisted spra y gun combines airless and air spra ying concepts . The spra y tip shapes the fluid into a f an patter n, as does a conv entional air less spray tip .

Troubleshooting 311001C 19 Fluttering or spitting spray . Insufficient fluid supply . Adjust fluid regulator or fill fluid supply tank. Air in paint supply line . Chec k, tighten pump siphon hose connec- tions , bleed air fr om paint line. Attempting to “feather” (par tially trigger the gun).

Repair 311001C 21 4. Inspect the o-rings (5e* , 5f*, and 5g*) in place . Carefully remo ve the o- rings from the diffuser hous- ing (5a) and repla ce if necessar y . 5. Remove the seat nut (5d†), seat (5c†) and seat g as- ke t (5b†, model G40 gun only) using a 7 /32 in.
Repair 22 311001C Air V alve Repair 1. Unscrew the spr ing cap (11) fro m the back of the gun body ( 1) using the gun to ol (30). R emov e the two spri ngs (15 and 19) , the shaft (9), an d seat (10). 2. Push the air v alve assembly ( 8*) out the bac k of the gun.

Repair 24 311001C Reassembl y 1. Install the tube gask et (22*) in t he gun. Handtighten the fluid tube con nector (C) int o the gun’ s fluid inlet. Handtighten th e air inlet fitting (17) and scre w (20). T orque t he fluid tube conn ector to 150-160 i n-lb (17-18 N•m).
