7 5 . R a i d S e tt i n gs You can config ure the FANTEC SQ -X2RU3e to use any of the following Storage Policies to map the applian ce's physical hard drives t o virt ual drives that are visible to the host computer. The v irtual drives are called volumes in the GUI.
8 JBOD MODE(Single ): The normal Mode (J ust a Bunc h of Disks) storage policy ena bles each hard drive t o be seen separately as o ne drive. JBOD stora ge policy is for a standalon e (non -cascaded) Storage Processor o r the top-level node of a cascaded configuration, but no t for subordinate nodes.
9 BIG MODE (Spanni ng): The BIG storage policy concatenates a se ries of physical hard driv es as a single large volume; resultin g in a seamless expansio n of virtual volumes beyond the physical limitations of s i ngul arly connected hard drives.
10 RAID 0 (Striping) : The RAID0 storage policy distributes access acros s all hard disks, also cal led striping. RAID0 presents th e best data speed but no data re dundancy. RAID0 storage policy accelerates hard d isk operating speed b y using many disks i n parallel.
11 RAID 1 (Mirror ing ): The RAID1 storage policy stores all data in dupl icate on separate drives t o prote ct against data loss d ue to drive failure.
12 6 . H D D F o r m a t t i n g G u i d e STEP1: Right- click on “My Computer” icon and se lect ”Manage” column. STEP2: Select “Disk Management” and you will see your External HDD showed “Unallocated”. Example : 250GB & 750GB hard dr ives.

15 STEP4: Press “O K” button to initialize the hard drive. STEP5: Right- click on the “Unallocated” block and select “New Partition”..
16 STEP6: The “New Partition Wizard” will ap pear. Please follow the instru ction of the wizard to complete. STEP7: When p artitioning is completed, t he exte rnal HDD will be recognize d as a “New Volume”.
17 STEP8: Double-cli c k “My Computer”. You will see th e new volume app ears on your PC. I n i t i a l iz e a D i s k If the HDD is n ew you have to initialization the device. View the box to t he left of the “Unallocated” b ox .You most likely would see the “ Not Initialized ” message disp laye d.
18 1. Right-click the “ Not Init ialized ” area, a disk’s in itialization menu will appear as below . Select “Initialize Disk” and follow the steps of th e HDD Formatting Guide wizard to complete disk initialization. Note : Windows Vista and 7 will ask what kin d of disk type you want to m ake, “MBR” or “GPT”.
19 7 . N o te About HDD Mode Reset the de vice is necessary every time HDD Mode changes. Press Raid Reset button only when the dev ice is powered on & c onnected to a runni ng PC. Make sure to back up all files befor e HDD mode changes s ince such practice requires HDD refor matting.
20 About USB & eSAT A Connectivity The equipped USB3.0 port i s down ward compatible with US B2.0 eSATA host(PC) needs to suppor t Port Multiplier funct ion in order to have Nor mal Mode(Single) to con nect 2 HDDs correctly.
