7 BATTERY CHARGING AND CARE Do not dispose of the battery pack in f ire - it m ay explode, causing injury or death. Do not replace the battery in hazardous atmos phere locations. Do not carry battery loose in your pocket or purse. Do not attempt to repair battery.

13 INTRODUCTION The Monogram Series EDACS Trunk ing Portable Radio provides reliable trunk ed com m unication in the 800 MHz band. Advanced Dual Format technology allows the radio to operate within the EDACS T runk ed system and the GE-MARC Trunk ed system .

16 QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE CONTROLS On/Off Volume The top, right clock wise rotation applies power with a m echanical click sound, and a full c ounter clock wise rotation, rem oves power with a click sound. A c lockwise rotation m ak es the volum e level increase and a counter clock wise rotation decreas es the volum e level.
17 Conventional - Press ing and holding the Shift/Clear/Monitor button twice (double click ) will enable MONITO RING the channel f or activity by unsquelching the r eceiver.
18 EDACS systems. S Pressing the SPC ( Special) key will put the radio in the Special Call mode. From the Special Call m ode the radio is able to m ak e individual and interconnect c alls.
19 INDICATORS Alpha-num eric display, is a 7 charac ter display that identifies the selected System/G roup and those operating modes or er ror conditions .
20 STATUS INDICATORS BUSY T he Channel Busy flag is on when the radio receives a call or when a conventional channel is in use. The flag is als o on when transm itting on a trunked channel. B The Battery flag is on when the battery pow er is low and needs charging.

26 KEYPAD MUTE The k eypad can be muted at anytime. T o m ute the keypad when it is in the unmute state, pr ess and release the MU TE (shif ted ) key. All buttons will be muted. To unm ute the k ey pad, press and release the MUTE (shifted ), the keypad is now unmuted.
27 EDACS OPERATION RECEIVING A MESSAGE 1. Turn the radio on by rotating the ON/OFF/VOLUME c ontrol c lockwise from the OFF detent position. After the radio has passed the power-up s elf test an optional tone will sound and the current System and Group will be displayed.
28 To ans wer c all, s im ply press PT T and begin talk ing if caller’s ID is still in display. If caller’s ID is no longer in display, the CA LL indica tor will be illum inated, indicating the radio received an Individual call. Press the key to display c aller’s ID, then press PTT and begin talking.
29 SENDING A MESSAGE 1. Turn the r adio on and set the desired Sy stem and Group as des cribed under RECEIVE A MESSAGE steps 1-3. 2. Observe the display for the absenc e of both the BUSY indicator and the NC indicator to ens ure that no one is transm itting on the selec ted Group and ensuring radio is in service area.

The radio will also transm it an em ergency mess age on the home System and/or G roup if pr ogram med ( see the Emergency Operation section).

56 STORING INDIVIDUAL AND INTERCONNECT NUMBERS 1. Press the key to put the radio into Special Call mode. or to put the radio into Confer ence Call mode. T he radio dis play s the last acc essed call number from the prepr ogram med Spec ial Call selection.
57 3. Complete the entry by pres sing the ke y for individual calls and the key for telephone interconnect c alls. T he k ey indicates the digits entered are f or an individual call and ke y indicates the digits are f or an interconnec t call. T hey will not be displayed but a tone will sound.

62 Receiving A Message 1. Press the SHIFT/CLR/M ONIT OR button and then use the SELECT buttons or to se lect a Direct Mode System . The SYStem dis play will indicated the current System selected. 2. Use the SELect buttons or to select the desired Channel.
63 2. Ensure no one is tr ansm itting on the selected channel by pressing the SHIFT/CLR/M ONIT OR button twice (“double clic k”) and hold and/or observing the display for the abs ence of the BUSY indicator to ensure that no one is transm itting on the selected Channel.
64 5. After all the digits have been keyed in, releas e the PTT bar. 6. W hen someone answers , press the PTT bar and speak directly into the microphone. Release the PTT bar as soon as you stop talking. Mes sages cannot be received when the PTT bar is pressed.

67 CONVENTIONAL MODE OPERATION The proc edures in the f ollowing section describes Conventional Mode operation. Each conventional channel m ay be programm ed with one or m ore featur es such as Channel Guard or telephone interconnect c apability . Follow these procedures if operating in a conventional system.
