Setting Up the Printer 1-1 Chapt er 1 Setting Up the Printer Unpacking Your print er box should inclu de these items. If any items are damaged or missi ng, please contact your dealer for assistance. See the note on page 1-3 fo r inform ation ab out the hexagon al lock screws.
1-2 Setting Up the Printer Connectin g the Ca bles an d Grounding the Pr inter You can connect up to four cables to the printer. They all connect to the connecto r panel on the back o f the printer, which is shown below: Notes: There is a caution label above the drawer kick-ou t connector.

1-6 Setting Up the Printer WARNING: Make sure that you use the EPSON PS-170 power supply or equivalen t. Using an inc o rrect power supply may c ause fire or electri cal shock. CAUTIONS: When connect ing or disconn e ct ing the power supply from the print er, make sure that the power supply is not plugged into an ele ctrical outlet.
Setting Up the Printer 1-7 Installing or Replacing the Paper Ro ll Note: Be sure to use paper rolls that meet the specifications. Do not use paper rolls that have the pa per glued to the core beca use the printer cannot detect the paper en d correctly.

Using the Printer 2-1 Chapt er 2 Using the Printer Operating the Control Panels You can contro l the basic pap er feedi ng operations of t he printer with the but ton on the cont rol panel. The indica tor light s help you monitor t he printe r’s sta tus.
2-2 Using the Printer Panel lights POWER The POWER light is on whene v er the p rinte r is on. ERROR This indica tes an error. See Chapter 3 for information on what to do when this li ght comes on. PAPER OUT This li ght in di cate s th e nea r end of t he pape r roll .

General problems The lights on t he control pane l do not come on . Make sure t hat the power supply cables a re correctl y plugged i nto the print er, the power unit, and to the power o utlet.
3-2 Troubleshooting If there is no paper jam and the pri nter has been printing for qui te a while, the print head may be overheated . If the print head is overheate d, the printer will resume p rinting whe n the head has cool e d (usual ly with in two o r three minut es).
Troubleshooti ng 3-3 Cleaning the print head CAUTIONS: After p rinting, the print head ca n be very hot . Be ca reful n ot to to uch it. A lso let it coo l before you cle an it. Do not damage th e print hea d by touching it w ith your fingers or any hard object.
3-4 Troubleshooting To clear a paper ja m, follow t he steps below: 1. Turn the pri nter off and press the cover open button to open the cover. 2. Remove the jammed paper an d put the rol l back in the printer and close the cov er.
Troubleshooti ng 3-5 4. Then turn the knob unt il you see in the opening, as shown in the il lu strat ion belo w. Thi s retu rns the c utter b lade to the normal po sition. Also notice th at ther e is a la bel near the cut ter to assist you. 5. Close the cut ter cover.
3-6 Troubleshooting If the auto cutter do es not return to its normal position by itself, follow the steps below to correc t the problem: 1. Pull the cutter cov er toward you so that yo u can rotat e the cutter mot or knob. 2. Fo llow ing th e instru ctio ns on th e labe l, ro tate the knob until t he appears in the hole.
