Loading Paper 13 3. Pull out the output tray extension. 4. Place your paper in the printer and slid e it against the right side of the sheet feeder. Check the following as you load paper: ■ Always load the short edge first, even for printing landscape-oriented documents.

16 Loading P aper 2. Place the hook on the back of the ma tte sheet support over the paper suppo rt extension, and hold the top extension with one hand while sliding the matte sheet support all the way down. 3. Load your paper as described on page 14.
Loading Paper 17 2. Slide the roll paper edge guide all the way to the right. 3. Line up the notches on the single sheet guide with the slots on the back of the printer and insert them as shown. Then in sert the tabs on the top of the guide into the slot beneath the printer cover.
18 Loading P aper 5. Insert one sheet of paper against the rig ht edge, then slide the edge guide against the sheet. 6. Guide the paper into the slot and feed it into the printer until the paper meets resistance.
Loading Paper 19 7. Maintain constant pressure against the pa per until the printer pulls it in slightly. Let go of the paper to allow the printer to adjust the paper position. 8. Open the printer cover and look down into the printer to make sure the paper is straight.
20 Loading P aper Loading Roll Paper You can load 4-inch, 8.3-inch, or 13-inch wide roll paper for printing multiple photos or panoramics, with or without borders. Tip: It’s a good idea to check your ink levels before loadin g and printing on roll paper (see page 83).
Loading Paper 21 5. Place the roll paper on the holders as sh own, then remove the tape and protective paper from the end of the roll. 6. Make sure the end of the paper is cut stra ight across, with 90° corners. If the end is cut diagonally, you may have problems feeding the paper.
22 Loading P aper 8. Insert the left roll paper holder (marked with an orange triangle) into the far left slot (also marked with an orange triangle). Then insert the other holder into the corresponding slot on the right.
Loading Paper 23 10. Push the paper into the feeder until th e paper meets resista nce. Maintain pressure on the paper until the printer feeds the paper automatically. Note: You may need to reload canvas or th icker roll media to ensure accurate paper regis tration.
24 Loading P aper Loading Thick Media in the Front Path You can load media 1.0 - 1.3 mm thick into the front path, in sizes from 8 × 10 inches to A3+. Note: Since the media fe eds through the pr inter from the fr ont to the rear , make sure there is enough space be hind the printer for th e media to move co mpletely through the pr inter.
Loading Paper 25 6. Insert the media two to th ree inches into the printer, and push the left edge guide against the media’s edge. Maintain slight pressure on the guide while inserting the media the rest of the way into the printe r. Stop when the front edge of the media is aligned with the arrow on the right side.

Certain paper types may be unavailable depending on which black in k cartridge is installed.

44 Printing Special Photos Selecting Roll Paper Print Settings Follow the steps in one of these sections to select your roll paper print settings: ■ “Windows” below ■ “Mac OS X” on page 45 Windows 1. Start your print application, open your photo file, and resize it as necessary.

46 Printing Special Photos 4. Open the Paper Size menu and sele ct your photo si ze. Then select a Roll Paper or Roll Paper - Borderless setting from the submenu for that size. To print without a border between photos, choose a Roll Paper - Borderless Banner setting for your photo size.

58 Printing Special Photos 8. Click the Off (No Color Adjustment) button. Note: Make sure that you select Off (N o Color Adjustment ) . If you don’t, the printer driver will apply additional co rrection to the image data, producing inaccurate results.

62 Printing Special Photos Solving Color Management Problems If you selected the wrong combination of source profile, printer profile, and color management settings, you’ll get unexpe cted results.
Printing Special Photos 63 5. Select Same as Source as the Print Space: Profile setting. 6. Click the Page Setup button. You see this window: 7. Select Stylus Photo R2400 from the Format for menu. 8. Select the appropriate Paper Size and Orientation settings, then click OK .

Printing Special Photos 65 Windows 1. Open Adobe Photoshop and open the pr ofile target file provided by your profile-building software manufacturer. 2. If you see a missing profile screen, select Leave as is (don’t color manage) . 3. Select File > Print with Preview .

Printing Special Photos 67 Easy Printing With Photoshop Elements 3.0 If you are using Adobe Photoshop Elem ents 3.0 with Windows, you can take advantage of the Epson EasyPri nt interface when you’re ready to print.

Printing Special Photos 69 Matching Black Ink to Paper Type In order to generate the best output on a wide variety of paper types, your printer can use either the Matte Black (T059820) or Ph oto Black (T059120) ink cartridge. Only one can be installed in the printer at an y time, but you can swap these cartridges depending on your paper type.
70 Printing Special Photos Swapping the Black Ink Cartridges Be sure you have the othe r black cartridge handy before you begin. Once you start replacing a cartridge, you must comp lete all the steps in one session. You can replace a cartridge whether the red H ink light is off, flashing, or on.
Printing Special Photos 71 8. Press the cartridge down un til it clicks into place. 9. Close the cartridge cover, press down on the top until it clicks, then close the printer cover. 10. Press the H ink button. The printer begins charging the new cartridge.
72 Printing Special Photos 3. Verify the new black ink cartridge is selected. Click OK . 4. Click OK in the Optional Ink Cartridg e Notification dialog box. 5. Click OK in the Properties window. Macintosh 1. Close any printing programs you may have open.
Printing Special Photos 73 6. Close the EPSON Printer Utility window. Advanced Black & White Photo Printing The Advanced B&W (Black and White) Photo mode allows you to easily produce neutral and toned black-and-white prints using your Epson driver and offers an alternative black and white workflow.
74 Printing Special Photos 5. Click Advanced B&W Photo in the Color Management section. 6. Select a Color Toning opti on from the menu, or click Settings to create a customized Toning option.

The default is Neutral, which will provid e you with a neutral tonal scale print. You can also choose othe r popular presets such as Cool, Warm, and Sepia.

80 Maintaining Your Printe r Automatically Checking and Cleaning the Print Head The Auto Nozzle Check and Cleaning utility prints a nozzle check pattern that the printer then reads to see if you have any clogged nozzles. If clea ning is needed, the printer automatically cl eans the print head.
Maintaining Your Printer 81 Running the Head Cleaning Utility 1. Make sure the printer is turned on but not printing, and the red H ink light is off. (If the H ink light is flashing or on, you need to replace a cartridge; see page 82.
82 Maintaining Your Printe r If the pattern has white lines or gaps (as shown below), click Clean to clean the print head again. If you don’t see any improvement after clea ning the print head three or four time s, check the solutions beginning on page 99.
Maintaining Your Printer 83 Checking the Ink Supply To check your ink supply, do one of the following: ■ Windows : Double-click the icon on the Windows taskbar. You see a window like this: ■ Mac OS X : Choose Applications > EPSON Printer Utility > SP R2400 > EPSON StatusMonitor .

Maintaining Your Printer 85 4. Press in the tab on the back of the cartridge, lift it ou t of the printer, and dispose of it carefully. 5. Shake the new cartridge fo ur or five times before opening its package. (Do n’t shake it after it’s unwrapped.
86 Maintaining Your Printe r 11. Press the H ink button. The printer begins cha rging the ink delivery system. The green P power light and red H ink lights flash and the printer makes noise. Charging takes about 90 seconds. When it’s finished, the green P power light stops flashing and stays on.
Maintaining Your Printer 87 Manually Aligning the Print Head 1. Make sure the printer is turned on but not printing. 2. Load letter-size Photo Quality Ink Jet paper. 3. Do one of the following: Windows : Right-click the icon on your taskbar (in the lower right corner of your screen).
88 Maintaining Your Printe r Cleaning the Printer To keep your printer working at its best, you should clean it several times a year. 1. Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, and disconnect the interface cable. 2. Remove all the paper, then use a soft brush to clean the paper feeders.
Maintaining Your Printer 89 Transporting the Printer If you move your printer some distance, yo u need to prepare it for transportation in its original box or a simila r one. Follow these steps: 1. Turn on the printer, and wait for the print heads to move right to the home position.

96 Solving Probl ems Running a Printer Check You can run a printer check to determine whether a problem comes from the printer or some other source. 1. Turn off your printer and computer, then disconnect the printer’s interface cable. 2. Load letter-size paper in the sheet feeder.
Solving Problems 97 Problems and Solutions Setup and Software Installation Problems The printer makes noise afte r ink cartridge installation. ■ When you install ink cartridges, the printe r must charge its print head for about two and a half minutes.
98 Solving Probl ems Printer Problems Only the green P power light is on, but nothing prints. ■ Make sure the interface cable is securely connected at both ends and meets the system requirements on page 107. ■ Run a printer check as described on page 96.

102 Solving Problems 3. Remove any jammed paper from the sheet feeder or open the printer cover and remove any paper jammed inside. Press the ) paper button to clear the error. Roll paper doesn’t feed correctly or jams in the printer. ■ Cut the end of the paper straight across.
Solving Problems 103 Miscellaneous Problems The image is inverted, as if viewed in a mirror. Turn off Mirror Image in the printer software or the mirror setting in your program. See page 31 (Windows) or page 39 (Macintosh) for instructions. The printer prints blank pages.
