Loading Paper 19 3. Line up the notches on the single sheet guide with the slots on the back of the printer and insert them as shown. Then in sert the tabs on the top of the guide into the slot beneath the printer cover. 4. Turn on the printer (the printer must be on to load paper in the single sheet guide correctly).
20 Loading P aper 6. Guide the paper into the slot and feed it into the printer until the paper meets resistance. 7. Maintain a constant pressure against the paper until the printe r pulls the paper in slightly. Let go of the paper to allow the printer to adjust the paper position.
Loading Paper 21 8. Open the printer cover and look down into the printer to make sure the paper is straight; if not, press the z roll paper button for 3 second s to back the paper out. Press the ) paper button to clear the paper ou t error, then load the paper again.
22 Loading P aper Loading Roll Paper You can load 4-inch, 8.3-inch, or 13-inch wide roll paper for printing multiple photos or panoramics, with or without borders. Tip: It’s a good idea to check your ink levels before loadin g and printing on roll paper.
Loading Paper 23 4. Place the roll paper on the holders as sh own, then remove the tape and protective paper from the end of the roll. 5. Make sure the end of the paper is cut stra ight across, with 90° corners. If the end is cut diagonally, you may have problems feeding the paper.
24 Loading P aper 7. Insert the left roll paper holder (marked with an orange triangle) into the far left slot (also marked with an orange triangle). Then insert the other holder into the corresponding slot on the right.
Loading Paper 25 10. To verify that the paper is loaded straight, open the printer cover and look into the printer. If the paper is crooked, press the z roll paper button for three seconds to back the paper all the way out. Then turn the roll paper holder knobs to roll up the paper.

Printing From Start to Finish 31 Customizing Your Windows Print Settings Follow these steps to print a document or image using advanced printer settings in Windows: 1. On the Main tab, click the Advanced button in the bottom right corner. 2. Click Continue .
32 Printing From Start to Finish ■ Color Controls : Lets you adjust the Brightne ss, Contrast, Saturation, and Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow co lor levels in your printout. ■ ICM : Uses standard color profiles for your printer to match colors in your image.

It is generally best to use the embedded profile. 6. If you see the message shown below, select Assign working RGB: Adobe RGB (1998) and click OK .

56 Printing Special Photos 9. Select Color Management from the pop-up menu. 10. Select Off (No Color Adjustment ). Note: Make sure that you select Off (No Color Adjustment) . If you don’t, the printer driver will apply additional correction to the image dat a, producing inaccurate results.

64 Printing Special Photos Windows 1. Open Adobe Photoshop and open the profile target file. 2. If you see a missing profile screen, select Leave as is (don’t color manage) . 3. Select File > Print with Preview . 4. In the Print window, click the Show More Options checkbox, then choose Color Management in the drop-down menu.

66 Printing Special Photos Easy Printing With Photoshop Elements 3.0 If you are using Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 with Windows, you can take advantage of the Epson EasyPri nt interface when you’re ready to print.

69 Printing on CDs and DVDs Your printer includes a special tray that le ts you print customized text, graphics, and photos directly on any ink jet printable CD or DVD. The Epson Print CD software makes it easy to import your own photos, add text, and modify your designs with a variety of special effects.
70 Printing on CDs and DVDs Cleaning the Roller Before you print on CDs or DVDs, you may need to clean the roller inside the printer. You can do this by feeding and ejecting several sheets of plain paper. 1. Open the output tray and extension. 2. Open the paper support and pu ll up the support extensions.

72 Printing on CDs and DVDs 6. Place the CD or DVD on the CD tray with the white or printable side face-up. To print on a small CD (8 cm), place the small CD ring on the tray first, then place the CD inside the ring.
Printing on CDs and DVDs 73 Printing Your Design After you have created your design and loaded a CD or DVD, you’re ready to print. Note: For information on designing CDs and DVD s, see the EPSON Print CD on-screen Help. 1. Start Epson Print CD, if necessary, and open your design file.
74 Printing on CDs and DVDs Adjusting the Print Position If your printed images and te xt are not positioned the way you want, you may need to adjust the printing position. Use the blan k cardboard position che ck disk included with your printer or an extra CD.
Printing on CDs and DVDs 75 6. Remove the position check disk or CD an d measure the distance from the edge of the hole to the sma ll cross marks (distance s labeled A and B as shown). You’ll need a metric ruler with millimeters for these measurements.

78 Maintaining Your Printe r Automatically Checking and Cleaning the Print Head The Auto Nozzle Check and Cleaning utility prints a nozzle check pattern that the printer then reads to see if you have any clogged nozzles. If clea ning is needed, the printer automatically cl eans the print head.
Maintaining Your Printer 79 Running the Head Cleaning Utility 1. Make sure the printer is turned on but not printing, and the red H ink light is off. (If the H ink light is flashing or on, you need to replace a cartridge; see page 80.
80 Maintaining Your Printe r If the pattern has white lines or gaps (as shown below), click Clean to clean the print head again. If you don’t see any improvement after clea ning the print head three or four time s, check the solutions beginning on page 96.

Maintaining Your Printer 83 4. Press in the tab on the back of the cartridge, lift it ou t of the printer, and dispose of it carefully. 5. Shake the new cartridge fo ur or five times before opening its package. (Do n’t shake it after it’s unpacked.
84 Maintaining Your Printe r 11. Press the H ink button. The printer begins cha rging the ink delivery system. The green P power light and red H ink lights flash and the printer makes noise. Charging takes about 90 seconds. When it’s finished, the green P power light stops flashing and stays on.
Maintaining Your Printer 85 6. When alignment is finished, click Finish on the last scre en. Manually Aligning the Print Head 1. Turn on the printer. 2. Load plain, letter-size paper. 3. Do one of the following: Windows : Right-click the icon on your taskbar (in the lower right corner of your screen).
86 Maintaining Your Printe r Cleaning the Printer To keep your printer working at its best, you should clean it several times a year. 1. Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, and disconnect the interface cable. 2. Remove all the paper, then use a soft brush to clean the paper feeders.

Solving Problems 93 Running a Printer Check You can run a printer check to determine whether a problem comes from the printer or some other source. 1. Turn off your printer and computer, then disconnect the printer’s interface cable. 2. Load letter-size paper in the sheet feeder.
94 Solving Probl ems Problems and Solutions Setup and Software Installation Problems The printer makes noise afte r ink cartridge installation. ■ When you install ink cartridges, the printe r must charge its print head for about two and a half minutes.

Solving Problems 99 3. Remove any jammed paper from the sheet feeder or open the printer cover and remove any paper jammed inside. Roll paper doesn’t feed correctly or jams in the printer. ■ Cut the end of the paper straight across. If it’s cut diagonally, the paper won’t feed smoothly.
100 Solving Problems CD/DVD Problems You can’t insert the CD/DVD tray easily. Don’t force the CD/DVD tray into the printer. Turn on your printer and follow all the steps beginning on page 70. The CD/DVD tray ejects when you start a CD/DVD print job.
