2 PictureMate TM is your easy-to-use, personal photo lab. Just insert a dig ital camera memory card and you’re ready to print brilliant, lo ng-lasting photos. Because PictureMate is light and por table, you can print whenever and wh erever you take pictures.
3 Special Features Printing with your PictureMate beco mes even easier with these spec ial features: From the PictureMate Main Menu, you can print all your photos by pressing Print . Or you can select just the ones you want. (See page 12.) Y ou can crop photos right from PictureMate—no comp uter required.
4 Where to Find Information See your Start He re poster to unpack, set up, and u se your Pict ureMate. Using Picture Mate Without a Computer (this book) explains how to print photos directly from your camera’s memory card.
5 Before you can print, you need to load paper and insert your memory card in PictureMate. Load Paper Follow these steps to load PictureMate Photo Paper: Caution: Don’t load plain paper; this may damage PictureMate. 1 Move the handle to the back and down.
6 Insert Your Memory Card 1 Press On to turn on PictureMate. 2 Open the memory card door . 3 Insert the memory card into the correct slot, as shown on the right side of this page. Push the card in carefully until it stops (it won’t go in all the way).
7 Now you can do one of the foll owing: ● Print a proof sheet of all the photos on your card using the PictureMate Print Wizard (see below). ● Choose photos and layouts for printin g from the Main Menu (see page 1 1).
8 Press Print to print your proof sheet. Press Can cel instead if: ● Y ou have already p rinte d a proof sheet for the photos currently on your card.
9 All Photos Press Print to start printing all your photos as borderles s, 4 × 6-inch prints. Note: If your card has more than 20 photos, you will need to reload paper while printing. Load a maximum of 20 sheets at a time. When you see the message “Try load ing paper again,” load more paper and press OK to cont inue printin g.
10 4 Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each additional photo you want t o print. The sc re en shows the selected photos and the number of cop ies for each. (Y ou may need to press or to see all your selected photos.) Note: If you cho se the wrong photo, you can deselect it.
11 PictureMate’s Main Menu g ives you lots of choices for printing. For example, you can select a range of photos to print (such as a g roup of photos you took at a special event), and choose additional page layouts, such as wallet-size photos an d photos with borders.
12 Select the Photos You Want to Print The Select Photo option lets you choose which photos to print. Make sure your memory card is inserted in PictureMate and the Main Menu is on the screen, then follow the steps below for the option you want. All Photos 1 Press or to highlight Select Photo , then press OK .
13 One Photo 1 Press or to highlight Select Photo , then press OK . 2 Press or to highlight One Photo , then press OK . 3 Press or to highlight the p hoto you want to print, then press OK . 4 Go to page 1 6 to select the number of copies. Several Photos 1 Press or to choose Select Photo , then press OK .
14 Note: If you press OK too many times, you will deselect the photo. 4 Press or to choose the nu mber of copies to print for that photo (up to 10), then press OK . 5 Repeat steps 3 and 4 for additional photos . T he screen shows selected photos and the numbe r of copies for each.
15 3 Press or to choose th e first photo under Fro m . (Make sure you choose the smaller number in your range first.) Then press OK . Tip: Hold do wn or to scroll quickly. 4 Press or to choose the last photo un der To . The n p re ss OK . 5 Go to page 1 6 to select the number of copies.
16 Deselect DPOF If DPOF i s selected and y ou want to choos e other photos to print, press or to highlight Select Photo and pre ss OK , then choose a different option. Note: If you always want to print with the Wizard screen, turn off DPOF in your camera.
17 2 Press or to highlight th e number of copies you want to print for each photo ( 1 to 100 ), then press OK . T o change the lay out for your photo(s), see th e next section. Otherwise, go to page 18 to confirm your selections and print. Choose a Layout 1 On the Main Menu, press or to choose Layout , then press OK .
18 Confirm and Print Once you hav e made all the ba sic print settings, you are ready to print. Note: Before printing, you may want to selec t other options for your photos, like addi ng the date or time or printing in black and white; see page 19 for details.
19 The More Options menu on PictureMate lets you modify your prints , as follows: The features described in this section do not change or replace the orig inal digital photo fil e; they customize only the print(s) you make at that time. These settings don’t appear in the Print Confirm ation screen.
20 4 Press or to choo se Black and Whit e or Sepia , then press OK . Note: This se tting remains in effect until you print or press Cancel . 5 If you don’t need to change any other settings, press Prin t . Y ou see the Print Confirmati on screen. Note: If Print Co nfirmation is turned off, you wo n’t see this screen.
21 3 Press or to highlight Print Crop T emplate , then press OK . 4 Press Prin t to print the template. Y our photo prints with a preview of the cropping options . Tip: The cropping areas are the same for each portrait- or landscape-orient ed photo. You can print o ne template for each photo orien tation to use as a reference for all your photos.
22 9 If you don’t need to change any other settings, press Prin t . Check your selections on the Print Confirmation screen and press Print again. Note: See page 24 for more information abou t the Print Confirma tion screen. Automatically Fix Photos PictureMate ca n automatically enha nce or fix the appearance of your prints.
23 Add the Date or Time Y ou can add the date and /or time your photo was originally taken to the bo ttom right corner of your print. 1 Select the photo(s). (See page 1 2.) 2 On the Main Menu, press or to highlight More Options , then press OK . 3 T o print the date, press or to highligh t Dat e Stamp , then press OK .
24 7 Press or to choose a se tting: ● None (default, turns off the time stamp) ● 12 - h o u r (03:00 for 3 pm) ● 24- ho u r (1 5:00 for 3 pm) 8 Press OK . Note: Thes e settings rema in in effect until you p ress Cancel for 3 seconds or turn Pictu reMate off.
25 Y ou can sa ve photo files on your memory card to a computer when you connect it to PictureMate with a USB cable . Y ou can also save photos to an external device that you connect di rectly to PictureMate.
26 4 Connect the drive to PictureMate: ● For a CD-R/RW or Zip drive, connect its U SB cable to the EXT/ I F port on the back of PictureMate. Then inser t a CD -R or Zip disk in the drive. ● For a flash memory drive, plug it into the EXT/ I F port on the back of PictureMate.
27 7 When you see this Beginning backup confirmation, press OK . 8 When your photos are saved, you see this screen. Press OK . Y ou can s ave photos multiple times to the same dis k or drive until it is full. Each ti me you save photos on the same disk or drive, they are saved in a new folder.
28 PictureMate can print stored photos on a computer or on another dev ice such as an external hard drive, a Bluetooth- enabled device, or a digital camera. Printing From a Computer Y ou can connect PictureMate di rectly to yo ur computer with a U SB cable, then print photos that are stored on your computer .
29 1 Make sure PictureMate is on. 2 Make sure there are no memory cards in PictureMate’s memory card slots. Th e card light should be off. Note: If a m emory card is inserted, the printer will read photos from the card , not from an external drive. 3 If PictureMate is connected to a computer, disconnect it or turn off the computer.
30 6 PictureMate counts the photos on your drive, th en shows on e of the followin g screens: ● If you see this message, print your photos from the PictureMate Print Wizard (see page 5). ● If you see this screen, print your photos from the Main Menu (see page 11).
31 Print F rom a Bluetooth Devi ce Y ou can pri nt photos wirelessly from your Bluetooth- enabled P D A, cell phone, or compute r when you use the optional E pson Bluetooth Photo Print Adapter . The Adapter (part# C1 2C824 142) is available from the Epson Store SM (see the inside b ack cover for details).
32 Disconnecting the A dapter Make sure PictureMate isn’ t printing, then pull the adapter out of the EXT/IF por t. Caution: Do not remove the adapter when its blue ligh t is flashing; this may cause PictureMate to malfu nction.
33 When PictureMate is low on ink or you are out of paper , it’s ti me to buy a Pictur eMate Print P ack, which contains a new photo car tridge and 1 00 sheets of photo paper. T his section tells where to buy one and how to replace the used photo car tridge.
34 Remove the Used Photo Cartridge Make sure you have a new PictureMate photo cartridge before you begin. Once you star t replacing a cartridge , you must comple te all the steps in one session. Caution: Befo re you replace the cartridge, read the “P hoto Cartridge Safety Instructions” on page 53.
35 6 Carefully pull out the cartrid ge and dispose of it properly . (For appropriate disposal, check local resources for recy cling guidelines.) Warning: Keep ink cartridges out of th e reach of ch ildren and do not drink t he ink. If ink gets on your hands, wash them tho roughly with soap and water.
36 If either side is sticking out, remove the cartridge and reinser t it so it is straight. 4 Move the lever right to the Lock position. If it does not lock in place, the car tridge is crooked; remove it and try again. (See step 3.) Caution: If the cartridge is not inserted c orrectly, ink may leak out.
37 When PictureMate recognizes the new photo cartridg e, it starts charg ing the ink and you see an ink ch arg ing message. When charg ing is complete, you can begin printing again. Check the Photo Cartridge Status (Ink Level) Y ou can check the app roximate ink level in your photo cartridge at any time.
38 Store and Display Your PictureMate Prints Photos printed on Pictur eMate Photo P aper are beautiful, long-las ting images. Follow these guidelines to make sure they will look great for generations. Store Y our Prints ● T o avoid scratches or smudging, do not rub the printed side of the photo.
39 PictureMate’s han dle makes it easy to carry short distances. If your PictureMate is going to travel a longer distance, you shou ld pack it carefully to protect it from getting damaged. Caution: Kee p PictureMate out of th e sun and don’t leave it in your car or other location where it can get too hot.
40 Y ou can change these se ttings (preferences) on PictureMate: ● T u rn Print Confirmation Of f or On (below) ● T u rn the PictureMate Print Wizard Off or On (page 4 1) ● Adjust the L C D Screen Contrast (page 42) And you can reset them to their default settings if necessary (p age 43).
41 The Print Confirmation setting remains in ef fect until you change it again or reset the default preferences (see page 43). Turn the PictureM ate Print Wizard Off or On When you first insert a me mory card, the PictureMate Print W izard guides you to print a proof sheet, then to print some or all of your photos.
42 Adjust the LCD Screen Contrast If the L CD screen is dif ficul t to read, you can adjust the contrast. 1 On the Main Menu, press or to highlig ht More Options , then press OK . 2 Press o r to highlight Maintenance , then press OK . 3 Press or to highlight LC D Contrast , then press OK .
43 Reset the Default Preferences Y ou can res et the PictureMate preferences (Print Wizard, Print Confir mation and LC D settings) to the original, defa ult settings. Press and hol d Cancel for 3 seconds . Y ou see this screen: Press OK to reset all the print settings.
44 If you have problems with yo ur PictureMate, or y ou want to improve print quality, read these sections: ● “Clean the Print Head” below ● “ Align the Print Head” on page 45 ● “Pictu.
45 4 When you see this message, press OK to begin cleaning the print head. Cleaning takes several seconds, during which the message Cleaning print he ad. Please wait. appears on the screen. 5 When cleaning is complete, you see a message asking if you want to print a nozzle ch eck pattern.
46 4 Press or to highlight Align Print Head , then press OK . 5 Press Prin t when you see the next message. 6 Look at the printed pattern to see wh ich line pattern is the straightest. (You may need to use a magnifying glass.) 7 Press or to highlight th e number for the best pat tern ( 1 to 15 ) in set #1, then press OK .
47 PictureMate Error Messages If your PictureMate has any problem s, you can check the screen for a message. If you see one of these messages, here’s what to do: Message Wha t t o D o Purchase a Pictur eMate Print Pack a nd replace the photo cartri dge with a new one.
48 Printing and Noise Prob lems PictureMate makes an unex pect ed noise after you install a photo cartridge. The first time you install the photo car tridge, PictureMate will charge its print head for about three minutes.
49 Y our printout is blurry or smeared. ● Use the PictureMate Photo Paper to ensure prop er saturation, abso rption of ink, and quality . ● Make sure you load paper with the glo ssy side face up. ● Make sure your paper isn’t damp or curled, or loaded face down (the glos sy side should be face up).
50 ● If paper jams, remove the paper , then press OK to clear the jam. ● Load paper glossy side up . Load up to a maximum of 20 sheets. Place the paper against the right edge and slide the edge guide against it, but not so tight that paper can’t move.

53 Photo Cartridge Safety Instructions ● Keep photo cartridges out of the rea ch of children and do not drink the in k. ● Do not shake the photo cartridge after removing it from the bag; this ca n cause leakage. ● Be careful when you hand le used photo cartridges, as there may be some ink remain ing around the ink suppl y ports.
