5 Important Safety Instructions Keep this manual for fu ture reference ! This document will support you during the use of the 3M ™ Portable Labeler PL1 50 handheld pr inter. Read th ese warnings carefully and us e the product as described in this user guid e to avoid ac cidental injury or damage.
6 Intended Use The 3M™ Port able Labeler PL300 is a port able label printer intended for industri al use. Th e printer is powered using a rechargeab le battery pack a nd 110V-240V power adapter . It can also b e powered by s ix AA alkaline batt eries.
7 Safety Precautions for Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Battery Pack Inaccurate h andling of a Lith ium-ion rech argeable bat tery may caus e leakage, heat, smoke, an exp losion, o r fire. This could cause det erioration of pe rformance or failu re. This may also da mage the protec tion device insta lled in the ba ttery pack.

9 About Your New Printer With your new 3M ™ Portable Labeler PL1 50, you can create a wi de variety of h igh-quality lab els. You can choose to print your labe ls in many different sizes an d styles. The printe r uses 3M™ Portable La beler PL150 Refill Cartr idges in widths of 1/4” , 3/8”, 1/2”, o r 3/4”.
10 Inserting the Opt ional Battery Pack The printer can operate using an optiona l rechargeab le, Lithium-ion batte ry pack (3M Portable Labe ler Rechargeab le Battery). Make sure the power ad apter is disconne cted before handling the Lit hium-ion batt ery pack.
11 Selecting a Language The first time you turn on the power, you are p rompted to select your desired la nguage. By default, the language is set to English. Several langua ge-related features of the printer, such as special char acters, m enu text, an d so on, are d etermined by the langua ge setting.
12 ALT Key The key is used to select the functi on or symbol printed abo ve a key. For example, when you press , the number 9 appears in th e display; ho wever, if you press and th en , an asterisk ( * ) appe ars in the display. Escape Key The key canc els an action o r exits from a me nu without making a selectio n.
13 Removing a Label You can remo ve a label fr om the curr ent group. To remo ve a label 1 Press + . 2 Select one of the following: • All to remov e all of the la bels in the gro up. • Current to remove th e label at the c urrent cursor position .
14 Creating Multi-Line Labels You can print a maximum of five lines on a lab el. The number of lines you ca n print on a label depends on the label wid th you have se lected. The display only sh ows one line of te xt at a time. Use t he navigation keys to scroll through multiple lines.
15 Creating Breaker Labels A breaker label is a multi-cell label used to label a row of brea kers. You select the breake r height and nu mber of breakers, enter the text for each breaker, and pr int. The result is a long label with a text f or each breake r.
16 To add a barcode 1 Do one of the following: • To add a Code 39 barco de, press . • To add a Co de 128 barc ode, press +. 2 Enter the text for the barc ode within the barcode on the display and press . 3 Select whether or not to show the barc ode text and press .
17 4 Select the amou nt you want t o increment the character a nd press . You can choo se to increment in steps up to 1 0. 5 Select the number o f times to increment and press . New labels are adde d in the display as needed to complete the series. To print mu ltiple copies of the same ser ialized label, se e Printing Multiple Copies on page 18.
18 Recalling Labels Once a lab el is saved to the library, you c an recall the label to print or edit. Re calling a label replaces the current labe l in the disp lay. To recall a label 1 Press . 2 Select My Labels and pr ess . 3 Select the label to recal l and press .
19 To print and collat e multiple copies 1 Press + . 2 Select the num ber of copies of the group o f labels to print and press . 3 Select All to print all of labels in the group. 4 Press . 5 Select one of the following: • Yes to print collated . • No to print normally.
