User’s Guide: CADA-U32A Series RAID Enclosure This guide contains i nstructions for changi ng the RAID settings o n your CADA-U32 A Series Personal Disk Array. If you need assistance, plea se contact customer service at customersupport@cavalrystorage.

Ventilation *The error LEDs light up when the corresponding hard drive fails, when there are rebuilding errors and when the corresponding hard drive is not present.
RAID Settings Descriptions SINGLE MODE Array will show up as two independen t drives. This function can be used if only i f two diffe rent brands and/or capacities of HDDs (Hard Disk Dri ves) are installed. SPANNING MODE Two HDDs will show up as a si ngle drive with the combined capacity of both drives.
Changing RAID Settings 1. Start your computer and w a it for your operating system to load completely. 2. Connect the square end of the USB 2.0 cabl e to your CADA-U32 di sk array. Connect the flat end of the US B 2.0 cable to your computer. 3. Connect the power cabl e to your CADA-U 32 di sk array.
b. The Run dialog box will sh ow up. Enter “cmd” in the t ext box then press the <ENTER> key. c. Virtual DOS command console wind ow will start. You will see th e blinking cursor where you can type commands. Now type “diskpart” as show n th en press the <ENTER> ke y.
d. Now to use DISKPART. Warning: Be ca reful no t to select your system drive as you could erase i t and your current Windows sys tem! i. Type “list disk ” to show all of your phys ical driv es. Identify which is the external drive. Make sure yo u know which before cont inuing.
Mac OS X a. Go to top menu “Go” and select “Utilities”. The Utilities win d ow opens. Select “Disk Utility ” to start the disk ut ility program.
b. Click the header on the lef t which starts with the drive size in gigabytes (1). Now click on the “partition” t a b on top (2). Disk Utility will switch to it’s partitioning fu nction pane. Now cl ick on the dual arrow butto n under “Volume Scheme” ( 3).
c. Now click on “Opt ions” under th e part ition graph (1). Th e partition scheme type selection window will pop up. Make sure the selection is “Apple Partition Map” (2 ). Then click “OK ” (3). You can l eave the format type on the right to “MAC OS e xtended (journaled)” (4).
e. The drive will start partit ioning as shown. It should t ake a minimum of 2 minutes to fini sh. f. You now have a MA C OS extended pa rtition. W e can now dele te the volume and clear the driv e. Click anywh ere on the partition graph representing the partition.
g. The warning dialog for erasing the pa rtition will pop up. Go ahead click “Remove”. h. Your drive is now clean of all partit ions. Continu e t o Step 6 on the next page.
6. After the drive is completely uninitialized, t urn off your drive. Set the CADA- U32 on its side. Remove the cover by removing the screws on the bottom of unit. The screws only need to be remove d on the "top" si de. The "top" side is the side to which the power switch (on the back of the uni t) is closest.
7. Locate the “Jumper Block”. The Jumper Bl ock consists of 6 Jumper Pins, with 4 pins being covered by two black “J umper Shunts” at any given time.
8. Decide which RAID set ting you want, and, followi ng the diagram to the right, move the jumper shunts to cover the appropriate pins. (On the diagram to the right, grey indicates that a pin is covered; white indicates an un covered pin.
9. Your jumper block sh ould look something like t h is when finished changing settings. Shown is RAI D 0 (striping) wi th pins 1, 2, 5, and 6 covered. Note that the jumper shunts are oriented along the longest axis of the drive. 10. Replace the cover of your CADA-U3 2.
