1 1. Charging the Battery . Charge the battery before use under the following circumstances. • When using the battery for the first time. • When the "Change the battery pack" message displays. 1. Insert the battery into the battery charger.
2 2. Inst alling the Battery . 1. Slide the lock release switch in the direction of the arrow ( ), and open the memory card s lot/battery cover ( ). 2. Push the battery lock in the direction of the arrow as shown ( ) and insert the battery until it lo cks.
3 T o Remo ve the Memor y Card Use a fin ger to push the memory card in unti l you hear a click, t hen release it. Y ou can use SD* memory cards and MultiMedi aCards with thi s camera. These ca rds are col lectively call ed memory ca rds in this guide.
4 Fir st Time Settings Setting the Date/Time 1. Press the power button ( ). 2. Use the or button to select an i tem and the or button to change its value ( ). T o set the daylight saving option, use the or button to display . 3. Confirm that the correct time is d isplayed and press the FUNC.
5 1. Press the power button. The start-up sound will play and the start- up image will display in the LCD monitor . • Pressing the power button again tu rns the pow er of f. • T o switch to the setting that mutes all sounds (except for the warning sound), press and hold the DISP .
6 R e viewing an Ima ge Right After Shooting After a shot is taken, the image app ears in the LCD monito r for approximat ely 2 seconds. Y ou can continue to display imag es regardl ess of the re view durati on setting wit h the follow ing procedu res.
7 MANUAL Digital Macr o Allows you to shoot when the distance f rom the lens (at maximum wide angle) to the subj ect is withi n 5 – 50 cm (2.0 in. – 1.6 ft.). The subject can be shown larger than in standard macro mode because the camera tri ms the image edges and zooms in with the digital zoom.
8 Using the Zoom 1. Press the zoom lever toward or . The zoom can be adjusted from 37 mm – 1 1 1 mm (focal length) in 35mm film equivalent terms. Wide Angle: Zooms out from the subject. T elephoto: Zooms in on the subject. MOVIE Shoots a movie when you press the shutt er button.
9 Using the Flash 1. Press the button to cycl e through flash settings. Flash settings cannot be used in some shooting modes. Y ou are recommen ded to shoot with the camera attached to a tripod or other device if the camera shake warn ing icon appears.
10 Shooting Close-Ups/Infinity Shots 1. Press the / button to switch modes. T o cancel the macro/infinity mode: press the / button to remove or from the display . These settings cannot be set in some shooting modes. Macro Use this mode to shoot close-ups of flo wers or small items.
11 1. T urn the mode dial to (playback). The last recorded image w ill appear in the LCD monitor . 2. Use the or button to display the image you wish to view. Use the button to move to the previous image and the button to move the next image. Holding the button down advances the images more rapidly , but shows them less clearly .

13 R ec., Play , Set up and My Camer a Menus Convenie nt settings f or shooti ng or playba ck can be s et with thes e menus. Press the MENU button. Use the or button to switch between menus. • Y ou can also use the zoom lever to switch between menus.
14 Connect the camer a to a direct print comp atible printer *1 with a cab le and simply press th e button on th e camera. 1. Connect the camera to a Direct Print compatible printer and turn on the printer's power . T urn the mode dial to (playback) mode and turn on the camera's power .
15 2. Confirm that , or is displaye d in the uppe r left of the LCD monitor ( ). • The button will light blue. • The displayed icon will vary ac cording to the print er model. 3. Use the or button to select an image to print ( ) and press the but ton ( ).

18 Preparing to Download Images Items to Prepare • Camera an d computer • Canon Digit al Camera So lution Disk sup plied with th e camera • Interfac e cable supplied with the camera 1. Inst all the software. 1. Place the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk in the computer's CD-ROM drive.
19 2. Connecting the camera to a comput er . 1. Connect the supplied interface cable to the compu ter's USB port and to the camera's DIGIT A L terminal. Slip a fingernail under the bottom edge of the camera's DIGIT AL terminal cover , lift up and plug the interface cable in all the way .
20 Downlo ading Images to a Computer A window allo wing you to set the pre ferences will app ear when a connection is establishe d between the camer a and computer . 1. Select [Canon CameraWindow] and click [OK] (fi rst time only). 2. Download the images.
21 Downl oading Images to a Computer The followin g window will appear when you establish a conne ction between the ca mera and computer. If it fails to appear , click the [Canon CameraWindow] icon on the Dock (the bar which appears at the bottom of the desktop).
22 Downloading Images Using the Camer a (Direct T ransfer) Use this meth od to download images using camera opera tions. Install the s upplied softwa re and adjust the computer s ettings befor e using this method for the first time ( p. 18). 1. Confirm that the Direct T ra nsfer menu is displayed on the camera's LCD monitor .
23 Select & T r ansf er/Wallp aper 2. Select or and press the button (or the FUNC./SET button). 3. Select images to download and press the button (or the FUNC./SET button). • The images will download. The button will blink blue while downlo ading is in progress.
