1 1. Charging the Battery . Charge the battery before use under the followin g circumstances. • When using the battery for the first time. • When the "Change the battery pack" message displays. 1. Insert the battery into the bat tery charger .
2 2. Inst alling the Battery . 1. Slide the memory card slot/battery cover an d open it ( , ). 2. Push the battery lock in the direction o f the arrow ( ) and insert the battery until it loc ks. T o remove the battery , push the battery lock in the direction of the arrow ( ) and hold it while pulling the battery out.
3 T o Remo ve the Memor y Car d Push the me mory card with you r finger or th e toggle on the wr ist strap unti l the memory card clicks and then re lease it. Y ou can use SD* memo ry cards and Multi MediaCards with th is camera. These ca rds are col lectively call ed memory ca rds in this guide.
4 Fir st Time Settings Setting the Date/Time 1. Press the power button ( ). 2. Use the or button to select an i tem and the or button to change its value ( ). T o set the daylight saving option, use the or button to display . 3. Confirm that the correct time is d isplayed and press the FUNC.
5 1. Press the power butto n. The start-up sound will play and the start-up image will display in the LCD monitor . • Pressing the power button ag ain turns the power off. • T o switch to the setting that mutes all sounds (except for the war ning sound), press and hold the DISP .
6 2. Press the shutter bu tton fully to shoot. The shutter sound w ill play and the image will record. The indicator will blink green while the image is recorded to the me mory card. R e viewing an Image Right After Shooting After a shot is taken, the image app ears in the LCD monito r for approximat ely 2 seconds.
7 Shooting Modes Still Images Auto The camera automatically se lects settings. Manual Allows you to select settings yoursel f, such as the exposure c ompensation, white balance or photo effect. Stitch Assist A l l o ws y ou t o shoot overlapping images that can l ater be merged (stitched) to c reate one panoramic image on a computer .

9 Using the Zoom 1. Press the zoom lever toward or . The zoom can be adjusted from 35 – 105 mm (focal length) in 35mm film equivalent terms. Wide Ang le: Zooms out from the subject. T elephoto: Zooms in on the subject. Using the Flash 1. Press the button to cycle through flash settings.
10 Shooting Close-Ups/Infinity Shots 1. Press the / button to switch modes. T o cancel the ma cro/infinity mode: press the / button to remove or from the display . These settings cannot be set in some shooting modes. Macro Use this mode to shoot close-ups of flo wers or small items.
11 1. Slide the mode switch to (playback) () . The last recorded image will appear in the LCD monitor . 2. Use the or button to display the image you wi sh to view ( ). Use the button to move to the previous image and the button to move the next image.

14 Y ou can ea sily print by connecting the camera t o a direct p rint comp atible printer *1 with a cable and simply pressing the button on the ca mera. 1. Connect the camera to a Direct Print compatible printer and turn on the printer's po wer .

Set the camera to the playback mode, turn on the power and c onfirm that , or is displayed in the upper left of the LCD monitor ( ). • The button will light blue. • The displayed icon will vary according to the print er model. 3. Use the or button to select an image to print ( ) and press the button ( ).

18 Preparing to Download Images Items to Prepare • Camera an d computer • Canon Digit al Camera So lution Disk sup plied with the camera • Interfac e cable supplied with the camera 1. Inst all the software. 1. Place the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk in the computer's CD-ROM drive.
19 2. Connecting the camera to a computer . 1. Connect the supplied interface cable to the compu ter's USB port and to the camera's DIGIT A L terminal. 1. Use the toggle on the wrist strap to open the ter minal cover . 2. With the facing in the direction sh own, insert the interface cable all the way .
20 Downlo ading Images to a Computer A window allo wing you to set the pre ferences will app ear when a connection is establishe d between the camer a and computer . 1. Select [Canon CameraWindow] and click [OK] (first time only). 2. Download the images.
21 Downloadi ng Images to a Computer The followin g window will appear when you establish a conne ction between the ca mera and computer. If it fails to appear , click the [Canon CameraWindow] icon on the Dock (the bar which appears at the bottom of the desktop).
22 Downloading Images Using the Camer a (Direct T ransfer) Use this meth od to download images using camera opera tions. Install the s upplied softwa re and adjust the computer s ettings befor e using this method for the first time (p. 18) . 1. Confirm that the Direct T ransfe r menu is displayed on the camera's LCD monitor .
23 Select & T r ansfer/W allpaper 2. Select or and press the button (or the FUNC./SET button). 3. Select images to download and press the button (or the FUNC./SET button). • The images will download. The button will blink blue while downlo ading is in progress.
