F or printing documents, you can use any of the Canon Specialty Papers described in Chapter 2, Pr inting W ith the M ultiP ASS C635 .

1-16 Introduction Chapter 1 Adding P ages to the Document If you want to add pages while the M ultiP ASS is sending a document, wait until the last page is feeding into the unit and then insert the new sheets. Inser t the first new page so it ov erlaps the last page by about one inch (2.
Chapter 1 Introduction 1-17 Identifying Y our Documents W hen sending a document, the following infor mation is printed out by the rec eiving fax: y our fax number , y our name, and the current date and time. This infor mation is called your TTI (T ransmit T erminal Identification) and appears at the t op of the faxed document in small type.
1-18 Introduction Chapter 1 Copying Documents One of the con venient features of the M ultiP ASS is its ability to make high-qualit y co pies. Copying in black and white, you can make up t o 99 copies of one document at a time. N It ’ s a good idea to use the optional BC-20 Black BJ Car tridge when you make black and whit e copies.

2-14 Printing With the MultiPASS C635 Chapter 2 Scatter: U se the scatter dither option when printing photos fr om “paint” or image editing packages. This option also works well when printing images with gradients or blends. Scatter dither does not use a regular patt ern to generate color or grayscale output.
Chapter 2 Printing With the MultiPASS C635 2-15 Printing W hen you print a document using background printing, the driver sav es a cop y of the document you ar e printing as a spool file, then returns the use of your c omputer to you.
2-16 Printing With the MultiPASS C635 Chapter 2 The SpoolMast er window displays information about the currently printing document and any documents queued to be printed. It also allows y ou to canc el, pause, remov e, or rearrange the pr inting order .

2-22 Printing With the MultiPASS C635 Chapter 2 Loading P aper Y ou can stack paper in the sheet feeder to load it auto matically , or you can manually feed one sheet at a time through the manual feed slot. Y ou can place appr o ximately 100 sheets of plain paper (20 lb or 75 g/m 2 ) in the sheet feeder at a time.

2-26 Printing With the MultiPASS C635 Chapter 2 Manually Feeding P aper Y ou use the manual feed function when printing on heavier-w eight print media (24 lb to 28 lb or 90 g/m 2 to 105 g/m 2 ). N Y ou cannot rece iv e fax es when paper is loaded in the manual feed slot.
Chapter 2 Printing With the MultiPASS C635 2-27 Printing ❍ Mak e sure the print side is facing up . ❍ Align the sheet w ith the left edge of the manual feed slot, and keep the leading edge of the paper perp endicular to the left edge. ❍ Slide the paper into the manual feed slot in the back of the printer until it stops.
2-28 Printing With the MultiPASS C635 Chapter 2 Printing On Envelopes Y ou can stack up to 10 en velopes in the sheet feeder or you can manually feed en velopes one at a time. U .S. Commercial n umber 10 (COM10) en velopes and E uropean DL en velopes ar e rec ommended.

Dust and dir t may accumulat e on the film resulting in spotty printing . ❍ T o av oid smudging caused by fingerprints, use a pair of thin cloth gloves while loading and handling the film.
Chapter 2 Printing With the MultiPASS C635 2-33 Printing ❍ W hen the output guides are raised, the output tr ay can hold a maximum of 30 sheets. ❍ Alwa ys low er the paper guides when using the M ultiP ASS as a fax machine. The guides may cause paper to pile up and jam.

3-6 Using the MultiPASS Fax Setup Utility Chapter 3 Auto Start Send W hen you select this option, the M ultiP ASS starts scanning automatically when you ent er a number and press ST ART or when you press a speed dial number . If you don ’t select this option, you must press ST ART twice to scan the document.

3-10 Using the MultiPASS Fax Setup Utility Chapter 3 Ring Tone Y ou can set the volume lev el of the ring tone. The default is Medium. Ring Time W hen your M ultiP ASS is set to recei ve both fax and t elephone calls, it rings to inform you of an incoming t elephone call.

3-12 Using the MultiPASS Fax Setup Utility Chapter 3 Setting Up Speed Dial Assignments T o access the Speed Dial panel, click the Speed Dial tab in the MultiP ASS Fax Setup U tility . On the Speed Dial tab , you can set up fax numbers for speed dialing with the M ultiP ASS.
Chapter 3 Using the MultiPASS Fax Setup Utility 3-13 T o change a recipient ’ s name or fax number , click their name in the A ddress Book list and then click Edit . In the A ddress Data Entr y dialog bo x, change the appropriate information and then click OK .

See page 1-14. ❍ The L CD displa y shows ho w much of the unit’ s memor y is in use, then displays the current resolution, and then the message DOCUMENT READY .
Chapter 4 Sending Faxes With the MultiPASS C635 4-3 After a few sec onds, the display sho ws the transact ion number for the fax. This is a unique number the M ultiP ASS assigns to the document and uses to identify the document in transaction reports: The M ultiP ASS continues to sho w these displa ys in order while the fax is being scanned.
4-4 Sending Faxes With the MultiPASS C635 Chapter 4 The M ultiP ASS automatically redials if the rec eiving fax does not answer , if the line is busy , or if a tr ansmission error oc curs.
Chapter 4 Sending Faxes With the MultiPASS C635 4-5 ❍ Pr ess the one-touch speed dialing butt on (1 through 6) assigned to the number you wish to fax t o; the name assigned to that button is displa yed. OR ❍ Pr ess CODED DIAL and enter the appr opriate two-digit coded speed dialing c ode.
4-6 Sending Faxes With the MultiPASS C635 Chapter 4 Sending a Document Using Group Dialing If you frequently send plain paper fax es to the same g roup of people, you can use the M ultiP ASS Fax Setup Utility to assign a “ g roup ” of numbers to a speed dial c ode.
Chapter 4 Sending Faxes With the MultiPASS C635 4-7 If there is no group registered under the one-touc h speed dialing button or the two-digit code, the LCD displa ys the NO TEL # message. Make sure y ou enter ed the correct n umber and that the group has been registered c orrectly to a speed dial c ode.
4-8 Sending Faxes With the MultiPASS C635 Chapter 4 T o Cancel Automatic Redialing T o cancel automatic r edialing, press the ST OP button. Ho wever , you cannot cancel r edialing while the L CD displa ys AUTO REDIAL (the unit is waiting to redial). In this case, wait until dialing begins and then press ST OP to canc el redialing.
Chapter 4 Sending Faxes With the MultiPASS C635 4-9 Manual Sending If you would lik e to speak with the other part y before sending a fax to them, you may do so; this is called manual s ending . T o use man ual sending, y ou must have a t elephone connected t o the M ultiP ASS.
4-10 Sending Faxes With the MultiPASS C635 Chapter 4 Cancel Sending T o stop sending before a fax is c omplete, follow these steps: ❍ If you are sending manually , the t ransmission is cancelled immediately . ❍ If you are sending from memory , the LCD displa ys: ❍ Pr ess * to cancel or press # to c ontinue the transmission.
