xx • When you are c learing jammed paper from inside the printer , remo ve the paper gently so that toner that is on the jammed paper does not spray out of the printer . Paper Requirements 2-2 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 Paper Requirements Usable Paper To get the most out of the f eatures of this printer , you should use the right kind of paper . If you use poor quality paper , the printing quality will deter iorate and the paper will jam easily .
Paper Requirements 2-3 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 Paper T ypes Y ou can use the follo wing types of paper with this printer . The symbol "O" indicates paper types that can be loaded, and "X" indicates paper that cannot be loaded.

Paper Requirements 2-6 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 Printable Area The printable area of this printer is as follo ws. ■ Plain P aper / Heavy P aper / T ransparency Y ou cannot print on any area within 5 mm of the edges of the paper . ■ En velope Y ou cannot print on any area within 10 mm of the edges of an en v elope.

Paper Requirements 2-8 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 Storing Blank Paper Ev en standard paper may deteriorate if not stored correctly . Degraded paper can cause paper f eed problems and paper jams , and ma y reduce printing quality .
Paper Sources 2-9 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 Paper Sources The standard configuration of the printer only provides the multi-purpose tra y as a paper source. By installing the optional 250-sheet paper f eeder , paper can be fed from a total of 2 paper sources.

Closing the Multi-Purpose T ray Close the multi-purpose tray using the f ollowing procedure. K eep the multi-purpose tra y closed when y ou are not using it.
Printing from the Multi-purpose Tray 2-18 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 Printing on Plain Paper , Heavy Paper or T ransparencies Use the f ollowing procedure to load plain paper , heavy paper , or transparencies. IMPOR T ANT • Tr ansparencies can only be printed in blac k and white.

Printing from the Multi-purpose Tray 2-20 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 • If you use paper that has been poor ly cut, the paper ma y hav e a tendency to double-f eed. In this case, thoroughly line up the edges of the paper on a fl at surf ace bef ore loading it.
Printing from the Multi-purpose Tray 2-21 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 5 Adjust the paper guides to meet both sides of the stack. IMPOR T ANT • Alwa ys mak e sure the paper guides match the width of the paper . If the paper guides are too loose or too tight, the paper will not f eed properly and this will cause paper jams.

Set this to [Plain Paper] for regular paper , [Heavy Paper] for thick paper and cardboar d, and to [T ransparencies] for transparencies.

Printing from the Multi-purpose Tray 2-28 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 CA UTION When loading en velopes, be careful not to cut y our hands with the edges of the en velopes. 4 Loosen any stiff corner s of the en velopes and flatten curls as shown in the figure.
Printing from the Multi-purpose Tray 2-29 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 6 Load the stack of en velopes with the flaps closed and on the left side, and the address side facing up. Gently insert the stack until it touc hes the back of the m ulti-purpose tra y as shown in the figure.

Printing from the Paper Cassette 2-36 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 2 Push down the plate in the paper cassette to loc k it. CA UTION When the plate in the paper cassette is locked, do not touch the lock release lever s on the left and right sides of the paper cassette.

Printing from the Paper Cassette 2-38 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 NO TE To print on letterhead paper or paper that already has a logo already printed on it, load the paper so that the printed side is f acing down, as sho wn below . 4 Press down on both sides of the paper stac k to make sure that it is under the tabs on the side paper guides.
Printing from the Paper Cassette 2-39 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 5 Insert the paper cassette into the printer . Push the paper cassette firmly into the printer until the front side of the cassette is flush with the front surface of the printer .

The paper sizes that can be loaded in the paper cassette are A4, B5, A5, Legal, Letter , and Executiv e.
Printing from the Paper Cassette 2-41 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 3 Push down the plate in the paper cassette to loc k it. CA UTION When the plate in the paper cassette is locked, do not touch the lock release lever s on the left and right sides of the paper cassette.
Printing from the Paper Cassette 2-42 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 4 Squeeze the lock release le ver on the rear paper guide and slide the paper guide to the mark corresponding to the paper size you want to use. The paper size indicated on the paper guide should be aligned with the mark.
Printing from the Paper Cassette 2-43 Loading and Collecting P aper 2 IMPOR T ANT If you are using B5 siz e paper (182 mm x 257 mm), set the paper guides to the positions shown in the diag ram ([B5-JIS] position). Do not use the [B5-ISO] position. 6 Load paper into the paper cassette and insert the cassette into the printer .
