2 T urning the Printer ON/OFF The printer can be tur ned ON/OFF using the pow er switch on the right side of the printer body . Be sure to observe the f ollowing instructions in order to pre vent une xpected problems . T urning the Printer ON In order to use this printer , you should press " " of the pow er switch to turn the printer ON.
3 If no abnormality is found during the self-diagnostic test, the オンライン indicator , 印 刷可 indicator and P aper Source indicator f or the currently selected paper source come on, < 00 インサツ カノウ >, <00 LIPS>, or <00 ESC/P> appears in the displa y , and the pr inter is ready to print.
4 1 Make sure that the ジ ジ ジ ジ ョ ョ ョ ョ ブ ブ ブ ブ indicator is off. 2 Press " " of the power s witch on the printer . Off.
5 Online and Offline When the printer can receive data from the computer and print the data, the printer is in the state of "Online", and when the printer is disconnected with the computer and cannot receiv e data, the printer is in the state of "Offline".
6 NO TE If the printer has entered the sleep mode 1 or sleep mode 2, the オンライン indicator is off e v en when the printer is online, and only the 印刷可 indicator and 主電 源 indicator are on. If the printer has entered the sleep mode 3, only the 主電源 indicator is on.
7 Paper Requirements To ensure optimum perf ormance, use only paper that f alls within the specifications in the f ollowing lists . Using inappropr iate paper ma y result in deterioration in print quality or paper jams. Usable Paper The f ollowing sho ws the paper sizes that can be used with this printer .

12 IMPOR T ANT • Use "A4 size tr ansparencies f or LBP recommended b y Cannon". "A4 size transparencies f or LBP recommended b y Cannon" weighs 8.7 g per sheet. • Thoroughly f an the transparencies bef ore loading them as they ma y stic k to each other .
13 • Reply postcards and 4 on 1 postcards cannot be loaded in portrait orientation. Be sure to load them in landscape orientation with the printing side f acing up . (: F eeding direction) • Printing speed drops when printing postcards, repla y postcards , or 4 on 1 postcards.
14 • When loading en velopes at a siz e of Y OUGA T A No . 4 or Y OUGA T A No . 2, load them so that the flap is tow ard the left of the printer when vie wed from the front.

18 Loading Paper in a Paper Cassette Load paper in the paper cassette. The paper loading methods are different between standard size paper and custom siz e paper . Therefore , load paper properly using the f ollowing procedures . • Standard Size P aper (See p.

22 3 Load the paper stack so that the rear edge is aligned with the paper guide. CA UTION When loading paper , take care not to cut y our hands with the edges of the paper . IMPOR T ANT • Be sure to chec k if the paper guide is at the position of the siz e of the loaded paper .
23 - When loading paper at a siz e of A4, B5, A5, Letter , or Executiv e in landscape orientation, load the paper so that the printing side is f acing down, as sho wn in the f ollowing figures .
24 4 Hold down the paper as sho wn in the figure, make sure that the paper stack does not e xceed the load limit marks (A), and then set it under the hooks (B) on the paper guides. Make sure that ther e is sufficient space between the hooks of the paper guides and the paper stack.
25 5 When changing the size of the paper to be loaded, set the paper size setting switch and paper size register dial to the size of the loaded paper . ● Holding the tab of the paper size setting switch, set the paper siz e setting switc h (A) to the size of the loaded paper .
26 6 Set the paper cassette in the printer at an angle as shown in the figure a , then push it into the printer or paper feeder gently and horizontally b . Push the paper cassette into the printer firmly until the front side of the paper cassette is flush with the front surface of the printer .

32 Cassette 1 Cassette 2 IMPOR T ANT The paper capacity of Cassette 1 is appro ximately 250 sheets of plain paper (64 g/ m 2 ), and that of Cassette 2 is appro ximately 500 sheets of plain paper (64 g/m 2 ). Be sure that the paper stac k does not e xceed the load limit marks on the paper guides.
33 7 Holding the tab of the paper size setting switch (A), set it to the left. 8 Set the paper size register dial (A) to "Custom". IMPOR T ANT Make sure that the paper siz e register dial is set to "Custom" bef ore setting the paper cassette in the printer .

38 5 Before loading transparencies or labels, fan them in small batches and align the edges. CA UTION When loading paper , take care not to cut y our hands with the edges of the paper . IMPOR T ANT • Be sure to f an the transparencies or labels thoroughly bef ore loading them.

44 4 Spread the paper guides a little wider than the actual paper width. 5 Before loading en velopes, align them as shown in the follo wing figures. ● Place the stack of en velopes on a flat surface, flatten them to release any remaining air , and be sure that the edg es are pressed tightl y .
45 ● Loosen any stiff corner s of the en velopes and flatten curls as shown in the figure. ● Align the edges of the en velopes on a flat surface. 6 Gently load the stac k of en velopes with the printing side facing up until it touches the bac k of the multi-purpose tra y as shown in the figure.

49 Paper Jams When a paper jam occurs during pr inting f or some reason, the printer beeps, displa ying the message < 13 ヨウシガ ツマリマシタ > in the displa y . When a paper jam occurs, remo ve the jammed paper using the f ollowing procedure, and then resume the job .
50 • If paper is torn, be sure to find and remov e any remaining pieces of paper . • The error message ma y remain if jammed paper is remo v ed without opening the front cov er .
51 • The surroundings of the output tr ay and sub-output tr a y are hot during printing or immediately after printing. When taking out of the paper or remo ving jammed paper , be careful not to touch the surroundings of the output tr a y or sub-output tra y .
52 Paper Jam Area The messages displa yed in the Printer Status Window indicate where the paper is jammed. P aper Jam Area Displa y Message a Duple x print transpor t area (only when the duplex unit i.
53 Procedure for Clearing Paper Jams Remov e any jammed paper using the f ollowing procedures. 1 Confirm all the messages that appear in the display . Messages appear one at a time. Confirm all of them. As the messages disappear when the cover is open, take a note of them if requir ed.
54 ❑ Open the sub-output tra y . ❑ Open the white transpor t guide inside the sub-output tr ay a , then remov e any jammed paper b . Send the top edge of the jammed paper toward you, then r emove it.
55 ● If the sub-output tray is being used ❑ Remov e any paper jammed in the sub-output tr ay . 3 If y ou are using the multi-purpose tra y , remove an y paper jammed in the multi-purpose tra y , and then close it. IMPOR T ANT If the jammed paper cannot be remo v ed easily , do not tr y to remov e it f orcefully b ut proceed to the ne xt step .
56 4 Open the front co ver . Open the front cover gently while pr essing the lever on the top surface of the cover . 5 Remove the toner cartridge from the printer .
57 IMPOR T ANT Do not touch the high-v oltage contact (A) or the electrical contact (B) sho wn in the figure, as this ma y result in damage to the printer . 6 Place the toner cartridg e into the pr otective bag. 7 Remove an y paper jammed inside the fr ont cover .
58 8 Raise the transport guide . Holding the green tab, raise the transport guide. CA UTION Do not take your hands off the transport guide. The transpor t guide may snap back to its original position, and this may result in personal injury .
59 9 Remove an y jammed paper . Send the top edge of the jammed paper out of the transport guide a , then remove the paper in the dir ection of the arrow gently b . Remove the jammed paper in the direction of the arr ow gently to prevent unfixed toner fr om spilling.
60 ❑ Raise the blac k transport guide a , then remove an y jammed paper b . CA UTION Do not take your hands off the transport guide. The transpor t guide may snap back to its original position, and this may result in personal injury .
61 ❑ Pull out the duple x unit gently until it stops a , then raise the front side of the duple x unit and remov e it from the printer unit b . b a.
62 ❑ Remov e any paper jammed in the duple x unit. If you see the jammed paper in the area of (A), pull out the paper towar d you to remove it. (A).
63 ❑ Raise the sub-output tra y slightly a , then unhook the hook of the b lack transpor t guide b . ❑ Open the sub-output tra y to the position shown in the figure .
64 ❑ Remov e any jammed paper . ❑ Close the sub-output tra y . ❑ Holding the duple x unit as shown in the figure, push it into the printer firmly and horizontally .
65 CA UTION Push the duplex unit gently to a v oid catching your hands. Be careful not to hurt your hands. 11 If the sub-output tray is being used, open it, and if the output tray is being used, close the sub-output tra y . 12 Close the front co ver .
66 Hold the grips (A) with both hands, raise the front side of the paper cassette slightly b , and then pull it out completely c as shown in the figure. 14 Pull out the paper cassette of the printer unit gently until it stops a , then raise the front side of the paper cassette and remove it fr om the printer unit b .
67 15 Remove an y jammed paper . ❑ If paper is jammed in the paper cassette of the printer unit, pull out the paper downw ard as shown in the figure. ❑ If paper is jammed between the paper f eeder and printer unit, remov e the paper from the printer unit.
68 IMPOR T ANT Be sure not to touch the f eed rollers (A) of the printer and paper f eeder . This may result in damage to the printer or printer error .
69 16 Set the paper cassette in the printer at an angle as shown in the figure a , then push it into the printer gently and horizontally b . Push the paper cassette into the printer firmly until the front side of the paper cassette is flush with the front surface of the printer .
70 If the paper feeder is installed, set the paper cassette of the paper feeder also. CA UTION When setting the paper cassette in the printer , be careful not to catc h your fingers.
71 17 Open the front co ver . Open the front cover gently while pr essing the lever on the top surface of the cover . 18 Hold the toner cartridg e with both hands and install it into the printer . Align (A) of the toner cartridge with the toner car tridge guides (B), then insert the cartridge until it stops.
72 19 Close the front co ver . Close the front cover completely . IMPOR T ANT • Make sure that the front co ver does not open (mak e sure that there is no space between the front co ver and the printer and that the front co ver is stable). If the front cov er is not closed completely , this may result in poor print quality .

74 IMPOR T ANT If the printing appears faint or inconsistent e v en when the message < 16 トナー ヨウイ > or < 16 トナー カクニン > does not appear , this may be due to the toner cartridge reaching the end of its lif e.
75 1 Open the front co ver . Open the front cover gently while pr essing the lever on the top surface of the cover . 2 Remove the toner cartridge from the printer .
76 IMPOR T ANT Do not touch the high-v oltage contact (A) or the electrical contact (B) sho wn in the figure, as this ma y result in damage to the printer . 3 Clean the transport guide . ● Raise the transport guide . Holding the green tab, raise the transport guide.
77 ● Using a slightly dampened c loth with water , wipe off chipped paper and toner that are attached to the transport guide . After wiping off the dir t, wipe the area with a soft, dry cloth. IMPOR T ANT • Do not use a cleaning agent such as mild detergent.
78 ● Move the transport guide back to its original position slo wly . CA UTION Do not take your hands off the transport guide until it moves bac k to its original position. The transpor t guide ma y snap back to its original position, and this may result in per sonal injury .
79 5 Pull up the tape gently while supporting the toner car tridge a , then remove it together with the blac k pr otective sheet b . 6 Hold the toner cartridg e as sho wn in the figure, shake it gently 5 or 6 times to evenl y distrib ute the toner inside the cartridg e.
80 7 Place the toner cartridg e on a flat surface, f old back the tab of the sealing tape a , and then pull out the sealing tape (appr o x. 72 cm long) gently b while supporting the toner car tridge . Remove the sealing tape by hooking your fingers into the tab and pulling it out straight in the direction of the arr ow .
81 • When pulling out the sealing tape , be careful not to touch the toner cartr idge memory (A) or not to hold the drum protective shutter (B) with y our hands. 8 Hold the toner cartridg e pr operly with the arr owed side facing up as shown in the figure.
82 IMPOR T ANT Do not hold the toner cartr idge in a manner that is not directed in this procedure . 9 Hold the toner cartridg e with both hands and install it into the printer . Align (A) of the toner cartridge with the toner car tridge guides (B), then insert the cartridge until it stops.
83 10 Close the front co ver . Close the front cover completely . IMPOR T ANT • Make sure that the front co ver does not open (mak e sure that there is no space between the front co ver and the printer and that the front co ver is stable). If the front cov er is not closed completely , this may result in poor print quality .
84 Canceling a Job If you w ant to cancel the job currently being printed, perform [Cancel Job] using the f ollowing procedure . A job cancel allows you to cancel the job currently being receiv ed or processed. This option does not aff ect the next print data or the jobs that hav e not been processed yet.
85 Confirming the Printer Features This printer is provided with a function of Status Print that allows you to chec k the menu settings , etc. Use these functions when required after installing and connecting the printer , f or e xample when you w ant to check the oper ation.
86 4 Confirm the contents of the Status Print. Status Print prints information as shown in the following figure. Status Print allows you to confirm infor mation about the curr ently available funct.
87 Ser vice Call Display When a problem has occurred and the printer does not work properly , the ser vice call shown in the figure appears: 1 T urn the power OFF , wait for 10 seconds or longer , and then turn it ON again. If the message does not reappear , the printer can be used as normal.
88 2 Note down the alphan umeric characters and messa ge in the display . 3 T urn the printer and computer OFF a , remove the USB cab le b , disconnect the power plug fr om the A C po wer outlet c , and then remove the gr ound wire fr om the ground terminal d .
89 Message List When the printer cannot continue printing for some reason (an error status), the printer beeps, the メッセージ indicator comes on, and an error message that indicates the description of the error appears in the display .
90 12 カバーガ アイテイマス Cause The front cov er is open, or the sub-output tra y is open to the position shown in the figure . Remedy Close the front cov er firmly or close the sub-output tra y to the position shown in the figure .
91 16 トナー カクニン Cause T oner is r unning out. Remedy Press [ オンライン ]. Although you can continue to print for a while , hav e ready a new toner car tridge. When you print a large amount of data, or white patches appear on the images, replace the toner car tridge with a new one .
92 96 サブハイシトレイカクニン /シメテ クダサイ Cause P aper was to be output with the printed side f acing up during automatic 2-sided pr inting. Remedy Close the sub-output tra y . The pr inter resumes printing, and the paper is output to the output tray .
