For this reason, laser radiation emitted inside this printer is hermetically sealed within the protecti ve housing and e xternal cov er . In the normal operation of the product by the user , no radiation can leak from the machine.

viii ❏ 110–127 V model only: This product is equipped with a 3-wire grounding type plug, a plug that has a third (grounding) pin. As a safety feature, this plug fits only into a grounding-type po wer outlet. If you are unable to insert the plug into the outlet, contact an electrician to replace your obsolete outlet.
ix ❏ The printer should ne ver be placed near or o ver a radiator , heat register , or flame. It should not be placed in a built-in installation unless proper ventilation is pro vided.

This chapter introduces you to the printer and explains its features. Y our ne w laser printer has many adv anced features, including the CAPT (Canon Advanced Printing T echnology).

Paper Handling Chapter 2 Paper Handling 7 Chapter 2 P aper Handling This chapter describes ho w to select the dif ferent types of paper you can use with your printer and ho w to load them.
8 Paper Handling Chapter 2 P aper Requirements Make sure that the paper you use meets the follo wing requirements. Printing speed may v ary depending on: paper size, paper type, or number of pages to be printed. This is due to protecti ve functions working in order to pre vent troubles such as breakdo wn caused by heating.
Paper Handling Chapter 2 Paper Handling 9 Plain P aper Follo w these guidelines when selecting paper: ❏ P aper that is too thick or too thin, or that has irre gular shapes, cutouts, or perforations should not be used. ❏ Ne ver use paper that is wet, highly te xtured, rough, torn, wrinkled, or damaged.
10 Paper Handling Chapter 2 ❏ Do not use labels with exposed adhesi ve, which may stick to the EP- 25 cartridge or the fixing roller , causing the labels to peel off and serious paper jams to occur .
Paper Handling Chapter 2 Paper Handling 11 P ostcards Follo w these guidelines when printing on postcards: ❏ Postcards should not be greater than 0.28 mm in thickness. ❏ Postcards should be free of glue, clips, and staples. ❏ Do not use postcards that are damaged or curled, or that hav e special coatings or an irregular shape.
12 Paper Handling Chapter 2 P aper P ath Understanding ho w paper trav els inside the printer helps you better handle paper loading and jams. A sheet of paper enters the printer from the cassette or the manual feed slot. It trav els to the image transfer area where the printer drum has been statically charged.
Paper Handling Chapter 2 Paper Handling 13 Selecting P aper Deliver y Use the deli very selection co ver to choose f ace-up or face-do wn deliv ery . When the cov er is open, face-up deliv ery is selected. When the co ver is closed, face-do wn deliv ery is selected.
14 Paper Handling Chapter 2 F ace-up Delivery Printouts come out from the face-up deli very slot face up. This helps pre vent paper curl. To select f ace-up deli very , open the delivery selection co ver . ❏ Do not pull on the printout while it is still emerging from the f ace-up deli very slot.
Paper Handling Chapter 2 Paper Handling 15 Loading P aper into the Cassette The cassette can hold up to approximately 250 sheets of 64 g/m 2 paper for high-volume printing. Acceptable paper sizes are Letter , A4, Executi ve, and B5. It also accepts en velopes, postcards, or special paper with a maximum height of 25 mm.
16 Paper Handling Chapter 2 2. Remov e the manual feed slot. 3. Set the stack of paper with the printing side facing up. The top edge of the paper should be inside the printer . Slide the stack into the cassette until it stops. Do not load more than 250 sheets of 64 g/m 2 plain paper , or a stack of any paper higher than 25 mm.
Paper Handling Chapter 2 Paper Handling 17 4. Adjust the paper guides on the right, left, and front to the size of the paper . Adjust the paper guides so that there is no space between the paper guide and the edge of the stack of paper . 5. Set the manual feed slot on the cassette.
18 Paper Handling Chapter 2 Loading En velopes into the Cassette Before Loading En velopes Please be sure to follo w these steps before loading en velopes: 1. Place the en velopes on a flat surface and press the corners do wn in the direction sho wn to flatten the en velopes.
Paper Handling Chapter 2 Paper Handling 19 3. Align the stack of en velopes by tapping them on a flat surface. Loading En velopes 1. Set the paper with the printing side facing up so that the flap is on the left. The top edge of the en velope should be inside the printer .
20 Paper Handling Chapter 2 2. Adjust the paper guides on the right, left, and front to the size of the en velope. Most applications allo w you to choose which way en velopes feed into the printer .
Paper Handling Chapter 2 Paper Handling 21 Insert the en velopes into the cassette, in the direction sho wn in the illustration. If the flap is along the long edge of the en velope, insert en velopes so that printing side are facing upward with the flap on the left.
22 Paper Handling Chapter 2 Not Acceptable If the flap of any of the en velopes ov erlaps the edges of other en velopes in the stack, like those in the e xamples belo w , paper jams or misfeeds will occur .
Paper Handling Chapter 2 Paper Handling 23 Loading P aper Manually The manual feed slot allo ws you to load paper manually , one sheet at a time. Y ou can load transparencies, labels, en velopes, postcards, or other special paper .
24 Paper Handling Chapter 2 ❏ Do not force the paper into the printer or printing problems might result. ❏ For continuous manual feed, insert a ne w sheet only when the pre vious sheet has come out completely from the deli very slot. If a ne w sheet is inserted before the pre vious sheet has been deliv ered, a paper jam may occur .

If it is shared, select all the operating systems that will use this printer . Click Next >. 11. Click Ye s if you w ant to print a test page, or No if you do not want to print a test page, then click Finish .

Click OK to close the dialog. 13. If you opted to print a test page, the page prints after the installation completes, and the follo wing dialog appears.

Select Local printer attached to this computer , then click Next > . To check on “ Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer” is not recommended.

58 Using the Canon Advanced Printing Technology Chapter 3 Windows 95/98/Me Ad d Printer Wizard To install the CAPT for a netw ork printer you can use the Windo ws 95/ 98/Me Add Printer Wizard . 1. From the Start menu, select Settings , then Printers .

Follo w the instructions on screen to finish the installation.
60 Using the Canon Advanced Printing Technology Chapter 3 Windows XP Ad d Printer Wizard To install the CAPT for a netw ork printer you can use the Windo ws XP Add Printer Wizard . 1. Log on as member of Administrators. The full control access right for the printer is necessary for the installation of the CAPT .

Printer sharing with the LBP-1210 printer requires that both the print server and the client de vices are using W indows 95 or later , or W indows NT 4.
62 Using the Canon Advanced Printing Technology Chapter 3 Printer Settings Share-le vel Access Control 1. Open the Canon LASER SHO T LBP-1210 Properties windo w , then check “Shared As” in the Sharing tab . 2. Enter the Share Name , Comments , and Password as needed.

Using the custom forms defined on the Forms tab in the print serv er’ s Properties dialog box, you can add information about the custom paper sizes.

This option only appears when 1 Page per Sheet is selected as the Page Layout . Check the check box to set a reduction or enlargement percentage (10-200).
88 Using the Canon Advanced Printing Technology Chapter 3 Overlay An ov erlay allows you to add data you use often, such as a logo, to the print data from an application. For e xample, when using an overlay you can automatically print your logo on letters you create.
