10 • Before using the product, please ensure that you read the safety precautions described below. Always ensure that the product is used correctly. • The safety precautions noted on the following pages are intended to prevent injuries to yourself and other persons, or damage to the equipment.
Safety Precautions 11 • Turn the camera off in places where camera use is prohibited. The electromagnetic waves emitted by the camera may interfere with the o peration of electronic instruments and other devices.
Safety Precautions 12 • In regular use, small amounts of smoke may be emitted from the flash. This is due to the h igh intensity of the flash burn ing dust and foreign materials st uck to the front of the unit. Please use a cot ton swab to remove dirt, dust or other foreign matter from the flash to prevent heat build-up and damage to the unit.
13 Prepare for shooting as fol lows. Thread the end of the strap thro ugh the str ap hole ( ), and then pul l the other e nd of the strap thro ugh the loop on t he threaded en d () . Place the st rap around your wrist. When shooti ng, keep your arms close to y our body and hold the camera secur ely to prevent it from movin g.
Initial Preparations 14 Before use , charge th e battery wit h the inclu ded charge r. Be sure to charge the battery initially, b ecause the camera is not sold with the battery ch arged. Remove the cover. Insert the battery. After alignin g the marks on the batter y and charger, ins ert the battery by push ing it in ( ) and do wn ( ).
Initial Preparations 15 Insert the i ncluded ba ttery and a memory card (sold sepa rately). Note that before using a new memory card (or a memory card formatted in another device), you should format the memory card with this camera (p. 164). Check the card’s write-protect tab.
Initial Preparations 16 Insert the memory card. Insert the memor y card facing as show n until it clicks int o the locked p osition. Make sure the memory card is facing the r ight way when you in sert it. Insert ing memory cards facing th e wrong way may damage the camera.
Initial Preparations 17 A screen for se tting the dat e and time is disp layed the f irst time you tur n the camera on. Be su re to specify t he date and time, wh ich is the basi s for dates and times add ed to your image s. Turn the camera on. Press the ON/OF F button.
Initial Preparations 18 Adjust the date and ti me as follows. Access the camera menu. Press the n button. Choose [Date/Time]. Move the zo om lever to c hoose the 3 tab. Press the op buttons t o choose [Date/ Time], and th en press the m button.
Initial Preparations 19 The display language can be changed as neede d. Enter Playback mode. Press the 1 button. Access the setting screen. Press and hol d the m button, and then immediately pr ess the n button. Set the disp lay languag e. Press the opqr buttons to choose a language, an d then press the m butt on.

Trying the Camera Out 21 Shoot. Shooting Still Images Focus. Press the shu tter button lightly, hal fway down. The camer a beeps twice af ter focusing, a nd AF frame s are disp layed to indicate im age areas in focu s. Shoot. Press the shu tter button al l the way down.
Trying the Camera Out 22 Black bars di splayed on th e top and bottom edges of the screen indicat e image areas no t recorded. Frames displ ayed around an y faces that are detected i ndicate that t hey are in focus. Once recordi ng begins, yo u can take your finger off the movie butt on.
Trying the Camera Out 23 To access Scro ll Display mod e, press and hold the qr buttons fo r at least one se cond. In this mode , press the qr butto ns to browse through image s. To return to single-image di splay, pres s the m button. To browse imag es grouped by sh ooting date , press the op buttons in Scro ll Display mode.
Trying the Camera Out 24 You can ch oose an d erase un needed i mages one by one. Be careful when erasing image s, because they can not be recovered . Choose an image to erase . Press the qr button s to choose an ima ge. Erase the image. Press the m bu tton, press the op buttons to choose a , a nd then press t he m button again.
25 The softwar e and the manuals on the includ ed CD-ROMs are int roduced below, with instruction s for instal lation, sav ing images to a computer, and using the manua ls. After instal ling the soft ware on the CD-ROM, yo u can do the following thin gs on your computer .
Included Software, Manuals 26 The includ ed softwar e can be u sed on the following c omputers. Windows * In Windows XP, Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 or later (max. 500 MB) must be installed. Installation may take some time, depending on computer performance.

Included Software, Manuals 28 Insert the larger plug of the interf ace cable in the compute r’s USB po rt. For det ails about USB connec tions on the c omputer, re fer to the computer user manu al. Install th e files. Turn the camera on , and follow the on-sc reen instruction s to complet e the instal lation process.

In A mode, the camera can de tect babies a nd children base d on registered birthdays and optimize settings fo r them wh en shooting .
Using Face ID 62 Choose [Add to Registry], and then choos e [Add a New Face]. Register face information. Aim the camera s o that the face of the person you want to reg ister is in side the gray fra me at the cent er of the screen. A white fra me on the perso n’s face indi cates that the f ace is reco gnized.
Using Face ID 63 The [Edit Pro file] scre en is displayed . Enter a name. Press the m button. Press the opqr buttons to choose a character , and then press th e m button to enter it. Up to 10 charact ers can be use d. Choose or and press the m bu tton to move the cu rsor.
Using Face ID 64 Continue registering face information. To register u p to 4 more points of fa ce informati on (expressi ons or angles), repeat steps 2 – 3. Registere d faces are more easily reco gnized if you add a variety of face informati on.
Using Face ID 65 If you regist er a person ahea d of time, the camera will prio ritize that pe rson as the main sub ject, and opt imize focus, br ightness, an d color for t hat person when shoot ing. When you poin t the camera t oward a subj ect, the names o f up to 3 r egistered pe ople will be displaye d when they are de tected.
Using Face ID 66 Access the [Che ck/Edit Info] screen. Following s tep 1 on p. 61, choo se [Check/ Edit Info] an d press the m butt on. Choose a person to check. Press the opqr buttons to choose a person, and th en press the m button . Check the registered in formation.
Using Face ID 67 Input changes. Press the op buttons t o choose an item, and follow s teps 4 – 5 on p. 63 t o input changes. You can overwr ite existing face informat ion with new face info. You shou ld update fac e information regularly, especially wi th babies and children, as t heir faces chan ge quick ly as the y grow.
Using Face ID 68 Access the face info screen. Read the messag e that display s, press the qr buttons to choose [OK ], and then press the m button. The face info screen is displayed. Choose the face info to overwrite. Press the opqr buttons to c hoose t he face info to overwri te, and then pres s the m button.
Using Face ID 69 Choose the name of the person whose face info you want to erase. Press the opqr buttons to choose the name of the per son whose fac e info you want to erase, an d then press th e m button. Access the [Face Info List] screen . Press the op buttons to choo se [Face Info List], an d then pres s the m button.
Using Face ID 70 Choose the name of the perso n whose info you want to erase. Press the opqr buttons to choose the name of a pe rson to er ase, and th en press the m button. After [Eras e?] is disp layed, pres s the qr buttons to choose [OK], and t hen press the m button.
