10 • Before using the product, please ensure that you read the safety precautions described below. Always ensure that the product is used correctly. • The safety precautions noted on the following pages are intended to prevent injuries to yourself and other persons, or damage to the equipment.
Safety Precautions 11 • Turn the camera off in places where camera use is prohibited. The electromagnetic waves emitted by the camera may interfere with the o peration of electronic instruments and other devices.
Safety Precautions 12 • In regular use, small amounts of smoke may be emitted from the flash. This is due to the h igh intensity of the flash burn ing dust and foreign materials st uck to the front of the unit. Please use a cot ton swab to remove dirt, dust or other foreign matter from the flash to prevent heat build-up and damage to the unit.
13 Prepare for shooting as fol lows. z Thread the en d of the st rap throug h the strap hole ( ), and then pul l the other e nd of the strap thro ugh the loop on t he threaded en d () . z Place the stra p around your wris t. z When shooting, keep your ar ms close to your body and hold the camera secur ely to prevent it from movin g.
Initial Preparations 14 Before use , charge th e battery wit h the inclu ded charge r. Be sure to charge the battery initially, b ecause the camera is not sold with the battery ch arged. Remove the cover. Insert the battery. z After align ing the S marks on the batt ery and charger, ins ert the battery by push ing it in ( ) and down ( ).
Initial Preparations 15 Insert the i ncluded ba ttery and a memory card (sold sepa rately). Note that before using a new memory card (or a memory card formatted in another device), you should format the memory card with this camera (p. 160). Check the card’s write-protect tab.
Initial Preparations 16 Insert the memory card. z Insert the memory car d facing as shown unt il it clicks int o the locked p osition. z Make sure the memo ry card is fa cing the ri ght way when you in sert it. Insert ing memory cards facing th e wrong way may damage the camera.
Initial Preparations 17 A screen for se tting the dat e and time is disp layed the f irst time you tur n the camera on. Be su re to specify t he date and time, wh ich is the basi s for dates and times add ed to your image s. Turn the camera on. z Press th e power butt on.
Initial Preparations 18 Adjust the date and ti me as follows. Access the camera menu. z Press the n button. Choose [Date/Time]. z Move the zoom lever to choose th e 3 tab. z Press the op buttons to ch oose [Date/ Time], and th en press the m button. Change the date and time.
Initial Preparations 19 The display language can be changed as neede d. Enter Playback mode. z Press the 1 button. Access the setting screen. z Press and hold th e m button, and then immediately pr ess the n button. Set the disp lay languag e. z Press the opqr buttons to choo se a language, an d then press the m butt on.

Trying the Camera Out 21 Shoot. Shooting Still Images Focus. z Press the shutt er button li ghtly, half way down. The camer a beeps twice af ter focusing, a nd AF frame s are disp layed to indicate im age areas in focu s. Shoot. z Press the shutter button all t he way down.

Trying the Camera Out 24 You can ch oose an d erase un needed i mages one by one. Be careful when erasing image s, because they can not be recovered . Choose an image to erase . z Press the qr buttons t o choose an image . Erase the image. z Press the m button , press th e op buttons to choose a , a nd then press t he m button again.

Th is does not indi cate damage. • Keep your fin gers away from th e microphone whi le shooting mov ies. Blocking the micropho ne may prev ent audio from being reco rded or may cause the recordi ng to sound muffl ed.

Using Face ID 58 z Choose [Add to Reg istry], an d then choose [Add a New Face]. Register face information. z Aim the camera so th at the face of th e person you want to reg ister is in side the gray fra me at the cent er of the screen. z A white frame on the person’ s face indica tes that the f ace is reco gnized.
Using Face ID 59 X The [Edit Pro file] scre en is display ed. Enter a name. z Press the m button. z Press the opqr buttons to choo se a character , and then press th e m button to enter it. z Up to 10 chara cters can be used. z Choose or and press the m button to move the cu rsor.
Using Face ID 60 Continue registering face information. z To registe r up to 4 mor e points of face informati on (expressi ons or angles), repeat steps 2 – 3. z Registe red faces are mo re easily recognized if you add a variety of face informati on.
Using Face ID 61 If you regist er a person ahea d of time, the camera will prio ritize that pe rson as the main sub ject, and opt imize focus, br ightness, an d color for t hat person when shoot ing. Using Face ID 62 Access the [Che ck/Edit Info] screen. z Following ste p 1 on p. 57, choose [ Check/ Edit Info] an d press the m butt on. Choose a person to check. z Press the opqr buttons to choo se a person, and th en press the m button . Check the registered in formation.
Using Face ID 63 Input changes. z Press the op buttons to ch oose an item, and follow s teps 4 – 5 on p. 59 t o input changes. You can overwr ite existing face informat ion with new face info. You shou ld update fac e information regularly, especially wi th babies and children, as t heir faces chan ge quick ly as the y grow.
Using Face ID 64 Access the face info screen. z Read the message t hat displays, press the qr buttons to choose [OK ], and then press the m button. z The face i nfo screen is displaye d.
