Exif Print This printer supports ExifPrint. Exif Print is a standard for enhancing the comm unication between digital cam era s and printers. By connecting to an Exif Print-complia nt digital camera, the camera’ s imag e data at the time of shooting is used and optimized, yielding extremely high quality prints.
1 Preface Shipping Materials Thank you for purchasing a Canon Bubble Jet Printer. Check that all the following items are in the box. If anything is missing or is damaged, contact your Canon Servic e Represen tative.
2 Setting Up 1 Pre paring the Print er 1 Place the printer on a flat surface. 2 Remove the pa cking material and tape from the printer as shown. The tape position is subject to change . 2 Connecting t he Printer to t he Computer Either a USB cable or parallel printer cable is available for iP4000.
3 Follow the step s below to install th e printer driver correctly . 1 Ensure that the printer and the computer are turned of f. 2 Connect the cable. Figure A shows the USB cable connection. Figure B shows the printer cable (parallel) connection (iP4000 only).
4 3 Installing the Print Head • Never attempt to plug the power cord into the power outlet or unplug the power cord when your hands are wet. • Never damage, modify , stretch, or excessively bend or twist the power cord. Do not place heavy objects on the power cord.
5 6 Remove the protective cap from the Print Head. 7 Place the Print Head in the ho lder . 8 Lock the Print Head into place by lowering the lever . Do not touch the lever once the Print Head has been installed. • Do not touch the Print Head Nozzles or electrical c ontacts.
6 Inst alling the Ink T anks • For safety reasons, store ink tanks out of the reach of small children. • Do not drop or shake ink tanks as this may cause the ink to leak out and st ain your clothe s and hands. • Be sure to remove the clear film from the i nk tank in the exact order as shown in step 2.
7 5 Use the same procedure to inst all the other ink tanks in to their appropriate slots. Check the labels to make sure that each tank is in the correct position. 6 Put back the Inner Cover and close the T op Cover . • Only install the ink tanks in the positio ns specified by the labels.
8 4 Loading Paper This section describes how to load paper in the Sheet Feeder . When performing the print head alignment, you need to load paper in the Sheet Feeder . Loading A4 (Letter) Size Plai n Paper in the Sheet Feeder 1 Pull out the Paper Support and Paper Output T ray completely as shown.
9 5 Installing the Printer Driv er Inst alling the Printe r Driver – Windows 1 Ensure that the printer and computer are turned of f. 2 T urn on the computer and st art Windows. If any applications automatically run, quit th em. Disable any anti-virus programs.
10 3 Place the Setup Sof tware & User ’s Guide CD-ROM in the CD-ROM drive . 4 Follow the instructions displayed on screen. When the screen shown on the left is displayed, click Easy Inst all . 5 When the list of applications to inst all appears, verify the contents , click Inst all , then follow the instructions on the screen.
11 9 When the On-screen Manual screen appears, click Next . 10 When the screen shown on the le ft appears, ensure that a sheet of A4 / Letter-sized plain p aper is loaded in the Sheet Feeder . Click Execute and Print Head Alignment to carry out print head alignment.
12 4 Double-click PIXMA iP4000 xxx.pkg or PIXMA iP3000 xxx.pkg . “x” represents a number . 5 Click Continue . 6 Read the License Agreement and click Continue , then click Agree . 7 Select a destination to where you wan t to install the printer d river , and click Continue .
13 6 Aligning the Print Head Aligning the Print Head positions allows you to print without shifts in the color registration. Aligning the Print Head – Windows 1 Click Star t and select Control Panel , Printers and Other Hardware , and then Printers and Faxes .
14 5 Read the message and click Prin t Head Alignment . It takes about 60 seconds to start printing. Do not open the T op Cover while printing. 6 If a message warning you not to perform other operations appears, click OK . 7 Ensure the patte rn shown on the left is printed.
15 2 Double-click the Printer Setup Utility icon. When using versions of Mac OS other than Mac OS X v .10.3.x, double-click the Print Center icon. 3 Select your printer from the Name list and click Utility . When using versions of Mac OS other than Mac OS X v .
16 Basic Operations • If you detect smoke, unus ual smells or strange noises around the printer , immediately switch the printer off and always unplug the printer . Cont act your local Canon service representative. • T o avoid injury , never put your hand or fingers inside the printer while it is printing.
17 4 Ensure that the proper lamp of the paper source light s. If not, press the Paper Feed Switch on the printer. 5 T o start p rinting, click Print . Printing will star t in a few moments.
18 Basic Printing Settings For the best print quality , specify the minimum require ment settings in the Ma in tab. T o get the best results, ensure you se lect th e type of media loaded in the printer when printing on paper other than plain paper .
19 Printing with Macintosh Adjusting the print settings according to your need s allows y ou to produce better quality prints. Printing 1 Open the Page Setup dialog box in your application. From the File menu, click Page Setup . Check the application’ s user s manual for the actual procedures.
20 Page Setup From the Page Setup dialog box, specify the Paper Size settings. Basic Printing Settings For the best print quality , specify the minimum requirement settings in the Print dialog box. Select Quality & Media from the pop-up men u to change the display of the dialog box.
21 Print Head Maintenance If Blurring Occurs or If a S pecific Color Does No t Print Perform Print Head Cleaning to improve the print quality . Ensure that the printer is turned on and follow the instructions be low . • W indows Open the printer driver settings screen and click the Maintenance tab.

23 Appendix Printing Ph otog ra phs Dir ectl y from a Digi tal Camer a Connecting a digital still camera or camcorder to the printer allows you to print recorded images directly without using a computer . This printer supports both “PictBridge” and Canon “Bubble Jet Direct.
24 (2) Turn on and set up the camera fo r direct printing. When the connection between the camera and printer has been established, the POWER lamp on the printer flashes once. * The power-on sequence may dif fer dependi ng on the model or brand of the camera.
25 About “Paper size” and “Paper type” T o change the paper size or pape r type, operate the camera to sele ct the PictBridge print setup mode and confirm or check the settings. T o print on Photo Paper Pro, select “Fast Photo” from “Paper type” on the d isplay of the camera.
