Preparations 31 To attach the wrist strap Pass the attaching end of the wrist strap through the back bracket on the camcor der , thread the wri st stra p through the loop and fasten. Y ou can also attach the wrist strap to the strap mount on the grip belt to use both for extra conveni ence and pr otection.

Preparations 37 Selecting an Option fr om the FUNC. Menu The following is an example of se lecting a FUNC. menu option in mode (the operation i s similar in mode). In playback modes, the operation varies depending on the func tion selected so refer to the rel- evant chapter as neces sary .

Preparations 39 First Time Settings Setting the Date and Time Y ou will need to set the date and time of the camcor der befor e you can start using it. The [Date/ Time] scr een will appear automati cally when the cam- corder’ s clock is not set.
40 Preparations Changing the Language The default language of the camcorder is English. Y ou can set it to one of 22 other languages. [ Menu] [Language ] Desired language NOTES • The displays and that appear in some menu screens r efer to the name of buttons on the camcorder and will not change, regardless of the language selected.
Preparations 41 Using a Memor y Card Memory Cards Compatible for Use with the Camcorder Y ou can use comm ercially available SDHC (SD hig h capacity) memory cards and S D memory ca rds with this camcorder . How- ever , depending on its Speed Class, you may not be able to record movies o n the memory card .

Video 55 Selecting Only Scenes in which People’ s Faces Were Detected If you reco rded mo vies with the Face Dete ction function ( 72) acti- vated, the camcor der can narr ow down the scenes shown in the index screen, le aving only those sc enes where a face was detected.

The large thumbnail will show the first frame of the scene. Below it, the timeline ruler shows frames taken from the scene at fixed intervals.

Video 65 Cinema Mode: Giving a Cinemati c Look to your Recordings Give your recordings a cinematic loo k by using the [ Cine Mode] recording program. Combine th is rec ord in g p rog ram wi th the 24 fps pr ogressive frame rate [ PF24] to get the enhanced ef fect of the 24p Cinema Mode.
66 Video Using an External Vide o Light Y ou can use the option al VL-5 Vi de o Light or VFL-2 Video Flash Light when you need a video light that is st ronger than the built-in mini video light. Attach the optional video light to the mini advanced shoe.
Video 67 1 Open the original movies index s creen and pr ess . • The button’ s bl ue light will turn on and only the video snap shot scenes will appear in the index screen. • Y ou can select their original mo vies in the built-in memory or on the memory card ( 52).
68 Video NOTES • Y ou can also add to th e playlist ( 84) just the video snapshot scenes you want to watch and arrange their p layback order . • When the memory is initializ ed, music files will be erased as well.
Video 69 The scene recorded in the memory will start 3 seconds before was pressed. NOTES • While pre-recor ding is activa ted, th e camcorder will not emit any notifi- cation sounds.

72 Video • When face detection ( 72) is activ ated, instead of the center of the picture, the camcorder w ill magnify the face of the person identified as the main subject. If there is mo re than one person in the picture, you can select the ma in subject manually .
Video 73 Move the white detection frame to the person for whom you want to optimize the camcorder’ s settings. NOTES • The camcorder may mistakenly de tect the faces of non-human sub- jects. In such case, turn face detection off. • In certain cases, faces may not be de tected correctly .

Video 77 To fade in/o ut Activate the selected fa de r i n re co rd p au se mode ( ), then press to start recor ding with a fa de in. Activate the selected fader while recording ( ) , then press to fade out and pause the recording. To activate an effect mode: Activate the selecte d eff ect while r ecording or in re cord pause mode.
78 Video * Pressing will turn off most of the ic ons and displays that appears automati- cally but will not remove onscreen disp lays that were tur ned on manu ally (for example, o nscreen markers, the a udio level mete r or the joystick guide).

Video 83 Playlist and Scene Operations Dividing Scenes Y ou can divide scenes (or iginal scenes only) in order to leave out the best parts and later cut out the rest. 1 Open the original movies index s creen. Y ou can sele ct the or iginal mo vies in the built-in memory or on the memory card ( 52).
84 Video - Scenes that were not record ed with this camcorder . • Scenes cannot be divide d within 0. 5 seconds from the beginning or the end of the scene. • During the playback of a scene that was divided, you may notice some anomalies in the pictur e/sound at the point where the scene was cut.
Video 85 • Press on the camcorder or on the wir eless contro ller to switch between the orig inal movies index scre en and th e playl ist. NOTES • Deleting or moving scenes in the pl aylist will not affect the original recor dings.
