4 Indicators The camera indicators will light or blink under the following conditions. • Upper In dicator • Lower Indicator Never do the following while the indicator blinks green.
5 Preparat ions 1. Installing the batteries. 1. Slide the m emory card slo t/battery cover lo ck in the direction of the arrow and open the cover. 2. Insert the 2 su pplied AA-size a lkaline batteries, or separately sold AA-size NiMH batteries. 2. Inserting the Memory Card.
6 To Remove the Memory Card Push the memory card with your finger until the memory card clicks and then release it. You can use SD memory cards, SDHC memory cards and MultiMediaCards with this camera. These cards are collectively called memory ca rds in this guide.
7 Preparat ions First Time Settings Setting the Date/Time 1. Press the power button ( a ). 2. Use the or button to select an item and the or button to change i ts value ( b ). 3. Confirm that the correct time is displayed and press t he FUNC./SET button ( c ).
8 1. Press the p ower button. The start-up sound will play and the st art- up image will display in the LCD monitor. • Pressing the power button again turns the power off. • Pressing the power button while pressing and holding t he DISP. button will turn on the mute setting which will mute all sounds except for warning sounds.
9 Shooti ng 2. Press the shutter button fully to shoot. The s hutt er s ound w ill play and the image wil l recor d. T he indi cator wil l bli nk gr een while the image is recorded t o the me mory card. Reviewing an Image Right After Shooting After a shot is taken, the image appears in the LCD monitor for approximately 2 seconds.
10 Shooting Modes Auto The camera autom atically selects settings. Image zone When a shooting mode appropr iate for the shooti ng conditions i s selected, the camera automati cally adjusts setti ngs for optimal shoo ting. Portrait Blurs the backgrou nd and makes a perso n stand out.
11 Shooti ng Imag e zone Stitch Assi st Allows you to sh oot overlappi ng images that can la ter be merged (stitched ) to create one panoramic i mage on a computer.

13 Shooti ng Shooting Close-ups (Macro) 1. Press the button. To cancel the macro m ode, press the button to turn off the or display. When the LCD monitor is on and flash recharging begins, the indicator blinks orange and the LCD monitor turns off. When recharging ends , the indicator turns off and the LCD monitor turns o n.
14 Using the Self-Timer 1. FUNC. Menu * (Drive Mode) / / . * Default setting. • When the shutter button is pressed fully, the self-timer lamp will blink. W hen setting the red-eye reduction function, the self-timer lamp will blink and then stay lit for t he last 2 seconds.
15 Shooti ng Changing the Delay Time and Number of Shots () 1. FUNC. Menu (Drive M ode) (Custom Timer). 2. Press the MENU butto n. 3. Select [Delay] or [Shots] using the or button and change the se ttings usi ng the or button and press the FUNC./SET button .
16 1. Set the mode switch to (playback)( a ) . The last rec orded image w ill display. If you have p layed back images between shooting sessions however , the last image viewed will display (R esume Playback) instead of the last recorded image.
17 Playback/ Erasing 1. In the playbac k mode, use the or button to sele ct an image to erase ( a ) and pre ss the bu tton ( b ). 2. Confirm that [Erase ] is selecte d and press the FUNC./SET button ( c ). To exit instead of erasing, select [Cancel]. Erasing Please note that erased images cannot be recovered.
18 Settings for the shooting, playback or print modes or such camera settings as the date/time and sounds are set using t he FUNC., Rec., Play, Print or Set up m enu. FUNC. Menu This menu sets many of the common shooting functions. a Set t he mode s witch t o (sho oting) .
19 Menus and Setti ngs Rec., Play, Print and Set up Menus Convenient settings for shooting, playback or printing can be set with these menus. a Press the MENU button. b Use the or button to switch between menus. • You can also use the zoom lever to switch between menus.
20 Connect the camera to a direct print compatible printer* 1 with a cable and simply pres s the button o n the camera. 1. Connect the camera to a dir ec t print compatib le printer and turn on the printer’s po wer.
21 Printi ng 2. Turn on the pow er in pl ayback mod e and confirm that , or is dis played in th e upper le ft of the LCD monitor ( a ). • The button will light bl ue. • The displayed icon will vary according to the printer model. • will display for movies .
22 The following methods can be used to download images recorded by the camera to a computer. S ome met hods, depending on the OS used, may not be av ailable.

24 Preparing to Download Images Items to Prepare • Camera and computer • Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk supplied wit h the camera • Interface cable supplied with the camer a 1. Install the so ftware. 1. Place the Canon Digital Camera Solution Disk in the computer’s CD-ROM drive.
25 Downloading Image s to a Computer 2. Connecting the camera to a computer. 1. Use the supplied interface cable to connect the computer’s USB port t o the camera’s DIGITAL terminal. Slip your fingernail under the right edge of the camera’s terminal cover, lift it open and plug the interface cab le in all the way.
26 Downloading Images to a Computer A window allowing you to set the preferences will appear when a connection is established between the camer a and computer .
27 Downloading Image s to a Computer 2. Download the images. • D ownload the images using the came ra or the co mputer. • By default, the downloaded images are saved into the [Pictures] or the [My Pictures] folder. Thumbnails (small v ersions) of the downloaded images will display in the ZoomBrowser EX Main Window.
28 Downloading Images to a Computer The following window will appear when you es tablish a connection between the camer a and com puter. If it fails to appear , click the [Canon CameraWindow] icon on the Dock (the ba r which appears at the bottom of the desktop).
