PCI-6872 User’s Manual 12 2.5 Setting Jumpers Y ou may configu re your card to match the needs of your applicatio n by setting jumper s. A jumper is a metal br idge used to close an electric cir- cuit. It consists of two metal pi ns and a small metal clip (often protected by a plastic cover) that slides over the pins to connect them.
13 Chapter 2 Installation 2.6 Clear CMOS (J1) This jumper is used to erase CMOS data and reset system BIOS informa- tion. The procedure for clearing CMOS is: 1. T urn off the system. 2. Short pi n 2 and pin 3. 3. Return jump er to pins 1 an d 2. 4. T urn on the system.
PCI-6872 User’s Manual 14 2.7 COM2 RS232-422 -485 Select (J3) 2.8 W atchdog timer configuration An on-board watchdog timer reduces the chance of disruptions which EMP (electro-magnetic pulse) interfer ence can cause. This is an invalu- able protective device for standalone or unman ned applications.
15 Chapter 2 Installation 2.9 Inst alling DIMMs The procedure for instal ling DIMMs is described below . Please follow these steps carefully . The number of pi ns are different on either side of the breaks, so the module can only fit in one way . DIMM modules have different pin contacts on each side, an d therefore have a higher pin den- sity .
PCI-6872 User’s Manual 16 2.1 1 Printer port connector (CN4) Normally , the parallel port is used to connect the card to a printer . The PCI-6872 includes a multi-mode (E CP/EPP/SPP) parallel port accessed via CN4 and a 26-pin flat-cable connect or .
17 Chapter 2 Installation 2.13 Floppy drive connector (CN3) Y ou can attach one 3.5" floppy drive to the the PCI-6872's onboard con- troller . This is useful for notebooks, for example. A daisy-chain drive cable convert er (part no. 968100004 4) is required for a single flo ppy system.
PCI-6872 User’s Manual 18 2. Plug the other end of the cable in to the Enhanced IDE hard drive, with pin 1 on the cable corresponding to pin 1 on the hard drive. (See your hard drive’ s documentation for the l ocation of the con- nector .) If desired, connect a second drive as described above.
19 Chapter 2 Installation The PCI-6872 uses the VIA "T wister T" chip that supports 2 channel L VDS LCD panel display s. Users can connect to L VDS LCD with CN2 5. 2.15.5 Panel type selection(SW1) SW1 is an 8 segment DIP switch for DSTN/TFT panel type and resolu- tion functions 2.
PCI-6872 User’s Manual 20 USB connector . The adapter cable ha s a 5 x 2-pin connector on one end and a USB connector on the other . The USB interfaces can be disabl ed in the system BIOS setup.
