2 Setting Up 1 Pre parin g the Printer 1 1 1 1 Place t he printer on a flat sur face. 2 2 2 2 Remove the t ape from the pri nter as shown. The tape posit ion is su bject to change. 3 3 3 3 Attach the paper rest to t he s heet feeder . 4 4 4 4 Pull out the out put tray .
3 2 Connecting the Prin ter to t he Computer Use a USB cab le. Recommended : Canon or ot her computer ma nufacture r cable, up to 5 m eters in lengt h. Follow the s tep s below to inst all the p rinter driver correctly . 1 1 1 1 Ensure that the print er and the computer ar e switched off.
4 3 Installing th e Print Head • Never attempt to plu g the power cord i nto the powe r outlet or un plug the power cord when your hands are wet. • Never damage, mod ify , str etch, or ex cessively be nd or twist t he power cor d. Do not pla ce heavy object s on the powe r cord.

6 Inst alling the Ink T anks • F or safety r easons, store ink tanks o ut of the re ach of s mall chi ldren. • Do not drop or shak e ink tank s as this ma y cause the i nk to leak out and sta in your clo thes and h ands. 1 1 1 1 T ake out th e black ink tank.
7 4 Loading Paper Loading A4 (Letter) Size Pl ain Paper 1 1 1 1 Open the front cover . 2 2 2 2 Move the p aper thickness lever at the top of the print h ead holder to the lef t positi on. Close the front cover . 3 3 3 3 Pull out the paper rest and t he output tray as shown.

From the patt erns in Column A, select the most even , least irregular p attern and enter the number .

17 5 5 5 5 In the same way , one by one, se lect the most even p atterns printed with th e least i rregulariti es from each of Columns B to K, enter their numbers and click Send . If it is diffic ult to pi ck the b est pattern on Colu mn H, pick the setting that pro duces th e least n oticeable vertica l whit e str ipes.

The pattern is printed. 4 4 4 4 Observe the pr inted p atterns and check the pat tern in which vertic al stripes are least noti ceable.

The screen for selectin g a patt ern in co lumn B (“b ”) app ears. 7 7 7 7 Repeat the above procedur e to determine the p attern numbers (+7 to – 3) of t he checked patt erns in columns B through E and the pat tern numbers (+5 to –5) of the checked p atterns in columns F through K.
20 Basic Operations • If you detect smoke, unusu al smells or strang e noises around the printer, immediately swit ch the printer o ff and a lways unplug the printer . Conta ct your local Canon service rep resentative. • T o avo id injury , neve r put your hand or finge rs inside the pr inter while it is printing.
21 Basic Print Settings For t he best pri nt qualit y , specify th e minim um requ irement settings in the Main tab. T o get the bes t results, ensure t hat you select th e media lo aded in the print er when printing on paper other tha n plain paper .
22 Printing with Macintosh Adjusting the print settings accor ding to your needs all ows you to produce better quality prints. Printi ng 1 1 1 1 Open the Page Setup dialog box in your appli cation. On the File menu , click Page S etup .
23 Page Set up Use the Page Setup dialog box to spe cify the pape r size settings.
