Azur upsampling compact disc pla yer 3 Thank you for purchasing this Azur 840C Upsampling Compact Disc Player. This unit is part of our new '8' series range, taking Cambridge Audio to new levels of audio excellence. The 8 series range has been developed as part of our commitment to the on-going development of the Azur range.
4 Azur upsampling compact disc pla yer Checking the Power Supply Rating For your o wn safety please read the follo wing instructions carefully before attempting to connect this unit to the mains. Check that the rear of your unit indicates the correct supply v oltage.
WARNING - T o reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this unit to rain or moisture. This unit must not be used near or e xposed to dripping or splashing water or o ther liquids. No objects filled with liquid, such as vases, shall be placed on the unit.
6 Azur upsampling compact disc pla yer Power On/Off Switches the unit on and off. Mains Voltage Selector Switch Switches the mains voltage between 1 15V and 230V . For use by installer/dealer only . AC power socket Once you ha ve completed all connections t o the amplifier , plug the AC power cable int o an appropriate mains sock et then switch on.

8 Azur upsampling compact disc pla yer FRONT P ANEL CONTROLS Standby/On Switches the unit between Standby mode (indicat ed by dim pow er LED) and On (indicated b y bright power LED). Standby is a lo w power mode where the power consum ption is less than 10 W atts.

The 840C is supplied with an Azur Navigator remo te control that operates both this CD pla yer and other Cambridge A udio Azur amplifiers. Inser t the supplied AAA batteries t o use. Note: The remote ma y be in Amp mode when first activated. Please refer t o the Amp Control section f or more information.
840C Upsampling com pact disc play er Azur upsampling compact disc pla yer 11 Amp Control mode The 840A/C remote contr ol comes with an Amplifier Control button, that when pressed, puts the remot e into Amp mode, allowing operation of a Cambridge Audio Azur am plifier .
12 Azur upsampling compact disc pla yer OPERA TING INSTRUCTIONS Loading and unloading discs 1. Press the Standby/On switch. 2. Press the Open/Close button. 3. When the disc tray has opened fully , place a disc carefully in the tray with the label side facing up.
840C Upsampling com pact disc play er Azur upsampling compact disc pla yer 13 Locating a particular point in a track 1. Ensure that the disc is playing the desired track. 2. Press and hold the right Skip/Scan button ( Search on remote), the CD will then fast f or ward within the track.
14 Azur upsampling compact disc pla yer Using the A-B function 1. Ensure that the disc is playing, press A-B on the remot e control. This will allow you t o continuously repeat a specific section of a track. 2. Press the Repeat button on the remot e control at the beginning of the section you want t o loop.
CD playback The 1 6 bit/44.1kHz sampling data on a standar d CD is upsampled to 2 4 bit/384kHz for best possible sound quality . Digital Input 1/2 Press Select again to select Digital Input 1. The incoming word length (1 6 to 24 bit) and sam ple rate will be display ed along with the indication that the data is being upsampled to 2 4 bit/384kHz.
Digital outputs The digital outputs can be set to two options: 1. Output the raw data fr om the CD (or digital input) with no processing. 2. Upsampled data processing b y the DSP to greater resolution. Press Select to switch between DSP Upsample or Pass Thr ough.
Digital out word width The digital output word width can be set t o 16, 20 or 2 4 bit (note this is different to the main audio output wor d width which is fixed at 2 4 bit for best sound quality): Press Select to switch between the w ord width options.

Check fuse in the mains plug or adaptor . The player will not read the disc Check the disc is not loaded upside down.
