Thank you for purchasing this Cambridge Audio Azur range AV Receiver. We hope that you enjoy many years of pleasure from it. The new 540R v3 is designed f or excellent multi-channel surround- sound performance without compromising on music repr oduction.

540R v3 azur 5 ENGLISH Pow er On/Of f Switches the unit on and off. Mains power lead Once you ha ve completed all connections, plug the A C power lead into an appropriat e mains socket. The A V receiver is now ready for use. Speaker t erminals Connect to loudspeak ers with an impedance of between 4-8 ohms.

8 F ront panel display Digital/Analog indicators Indicates the current source in put type - digital or analog. Decoding mode indicators Shows the current decoding mode, Dolby Digital, Dolb y Digital EX etc. In conjunction with the Output Channel indicators these give full details of the current processing mode.
540R v3 azur 9 ENGLISH Analog audio connections Note: Do no t plug in the mains power lead or turn the unit on until all connections hav e been made. Connect to source eq uipment using stereo phono cables (stereo 2RCA- 2RCA). T ape/MD/CDR recorder/players req uire two sets of stereo phono/RCA cables, one f or recording, one for listening.
10 Video connections For best picture quality w e recommend making a HDMI connection, then in declining order of quality , Component video connections, S-Video connections and then Composite video connections. T o use HDMI (digital connection), see the next section belo w .
540R v3 azur 11 ENGLISH T o connect external power am plifier s, use Phono/RCA leads connect ed to the 6. 1 Preamp Outputs on the rear panel. For 5. 1/6. 1 use, set the ‘Preamp Out’ setting in the ‘Output Setup’ OSD menu to ‘Pre Out’ rather than ‘Normal’.
12 Subwoofer For impr oving the bass in your system, as w ell as reproducing dedicated LFE cinema effects when playing Dolb y Digital or DTS encoded discs. Y our subwoof er can of ten be placed almost an ywhere in the room as bass is less directional, but experimentation with positioning is recommended.
540R v3 azur 13 ENGLISH Setting each speaker allo ws the 540R v3 t o perform what is called Bass Management and to direct low freq uency bass from music and the Low F requency Ef f ects channel of surround sound material to those speakers best able to repr oduce it.
14 The 540R v3 allows lev el calibration to match the acoustic lev el between different types/sizes or ev en manufacturers of speaker that may be being used f or each channel. This is achieved by adjusting the relative lev el of each speak er through the ‘Le v el Calibration’ menu in the OSD.
540R v3 azur 15 ENGLISH All of the 540R v3’s rear panel video inputs (S-Video/Composit e, Component and HDMI) are freely assignable to the D VD, Video 1, Video 2, T ape/MD, CD/Aux and 6.1 Direct sour ces for maximum flexibility . Select the ‘Input Assign’ menu.
16 Pro Logic II The replacement for original Pr o Logic, Pr o Logic II is a t echnology where 5 channels (F ront Lef t, F ront Right, Centre, Surround Left, Surround Right) are encoded into a Stereo mix b y an analog matrix process.
540R v3 azur 17 ENGLISH If no bitstream is present, pressing this button will result in the 540R v3 displaying ‘MODE UNA VAILABLE’. Note: The modes a vailable for each butt on depend both on the Speaker Configuration that has previously been set in the OSD and on the source material.

20 Dynamic Range Control This setting controls the dynamic range of Dolby Digital or D TS movie soundtracks by compressing the dynamics in f our stages to limit the difference in level betw een loud and quiet passages in the movie. This can be a useful feature when w atching movies late at night for instance.
540R v3 azur 21 ENGLISH Note: These adjustments w ork in the digitally processed Stereo and Surround modes but not in 6. 1 Direct mode. The Sub/LFE channel (for DD / D TS material) can also be trimmed.
22 Bass Augment can be a useful function with PLII and Neo:6 material because these encoding types do not include an LFE Channel. This would normally mean that if all the speak ers in your setup were set to ‘Large’, the subwoof er w ould in f act be inactiv e (as no bass has been re- directed plus there is no LFE channel).
