T ec hnical O verview 3-2 Figure 3-1. Bloc k Diagram System Management Buses There are two management cha nnels within the SmartSwitc h 9000 system: th e SMB-1 and the SMB- 10. These buses provide ou t-of-ba n d management and inter -module managemen t communication.
3-3 T ech nical O v e r view SMB-1 Bus The SMB-1 is a 1 Mbps management b us located within the SmartSwitch 9000. This bus is u tilized by all diagn ostic co ntr ollers in the system i ncluding connectivi ty modules, power supply modules and the enviro nmental module.
T ec hnical O verview 3-4 INB Inter face Each module attac h es to both INB A and INB B and has two INB ASICs. The INB ASICs use 64-byte E th ernet frames for transmission onto the INBs at 66 MHz. The 9X5XX modules ar e fully compatible with th e the first generati on 9X4XX modules.
