ABOUT THIS PRINTER 1 - 10 4 Put paper in the tray. Che ck that the paper is flat in the tr ay a t all four corners. Figure 1-7 5 Put the paper tr ay fi rmly back in the pri n ter . Check that it is i nser ted fully int o the printer. Do not put more than 250 sheets of paper (80 g/m 2 or 21 lb) in t he tray, or paper j ams may oc cur.

2 - 7 DRIVER AND SOFTWARE Job Spooling The print er saves dat a that yo u want to reprint. You can reprint a document without sendin g the data again from your PC. To reprint pr ess and hold down the Go butt on until all four LEDs are lit and t hen release the Go bu tton.

2 - 21 DRIVER AND SOFTW ARE Automat ic Emulat ion Selection This pri nter has a n Automatic Emulation Select ion featur e. When the printer receives data from t he computer, it automati cally chooses the emul ation m ode. This featur e has been set at the factory to ON.

CONTROL PANEL 3 - 5 Service ca ll indic ations If there i s a n error that cannot be cle ared by th e user, the pr in ter will show that a ser vi ce call is needed by lightin g up all the LEDs as shown in Figure 3-12.

3 - 8 CONTROL PANEL Print a test p age You can use t he Go button or the pri nter dri ver to p rint a test p age. Using control panel b utton 1 Turn off the pr inter. 2 Make sure that the front cover is closed and the power cord is plugged in. 3 Hold down the Go butt on as you t urn on th e power s witch.
CONTROL PANEL 3 - 9 Printer Se ttings You can pri nt the cur rent set tings using the control panel but ton or p rinter dri ver. Using the control pan el button 1 Make sure that the front cover is closed and the power cord is plugged in. 2 Turn on the prin ter and wait until the print er is in the Ready state.
3 - 10 CONTROL PANEL Print f onts (Not a vailable for HL-51 30) You can p rint a li st of t he inter nal fonts using the control panel bu tton or printer driver. Using the control pan el button 1 Turn off the pr inter. 2 Make sure that the front cover is closed and the power cord is plugged in.
CONTROL PANEL 3 - 11 Network fa ctory d efault settin g (For HL-5170DN) If you wish to reset t he pri nt server back to it s defaul t factory set tings (reset ti ng all infor mation such as the password and IP address inf ormation), pleas e follow these steps: 1 Turn off the pr inter.
4 - 1 OPTI ONS 4 This print er ha s the fol l owing optional acces sories. You can i ncrease the ca pabilities of the print er wi th these items. Cli ck t he symbol L in the table to see the infor mation for each item. DIMM We recommend that you expand the printe r memory to avoid any memory full errors.
OPTIONS 4 - 2 Install ing add itiona l memory 1 Turn off the prin ter power s witch, and then u nplug the pri nter. Di sconnect the interfa ce cable from the p r i n te r. Figure 4-1 Caution Make sure you turn the printer OFF before you install or remove the DIMM.
4 - 3 OPTI ONS 4 Hold the DIMM by the s ide edges. Lin e up the notches on t he DIMM with the DI MM slot. (Check t hat the locks on each side of the DIMM slot are open or fac ing outwards.) Figure 4-4 5 Press the DIMM strai ght int o the slot ( pres s firml y).
OPTIONS 4 - 4 Lower tray unit (LT-5000) (Not av aila ble for HL-5130) The lower tray unit is an optional devi ce that can hold extra paper. It can hold a maximum of 250 sheets of paper (80 g/m 2 or 21 lb).
