8 Patterns (“Pat tern” mode) Sele ct a patt er n an d edit it to c reat e yo ur o wn de sign . By simply loa ding c raft pape r or fabric , you can quickly crea te prec ision pa per and fabric cutout s. The variety of built-in pattern s can easily be edited to crea te d e sign s.
9 1 Chapter 1 GETTING STARTED Unit Descr iptions - Front a Opera tion Panel Allows you to control the unit and specify settings with the LCD panel and operating buttons. The angle of the operation p anel ca n be adjusted to one of thr ee levels. For details, see “Adjusting the Angle of the Operati on Panel” on page 10.
10 The follo wing procedure s describ e basic o perations, fr om pre paring the materia l to perform ing tr ial cutting . Removing the Tra nsport Packi ng Materia ls Before tu rning on the m achine, remo ve the sh ipping tape an d the c ardbo ard s hock- absorbin g ma terial.
11 1 c Press in the o peratio n panel. When the opening screen appears, touch anyw here on the d is pla y. X When the foll owing message appe ars, to uch the “OK” k ey. X The home screen appears. Memo • LCD panels commonly have bright spots (permanently lit dots) and dark sp ots (unlit dots).
12 Mat and Cu tting Blade Combin ations Use the f ollowing chart to select t he co rrect com bination o f accessori es for the m aterial to be cut o r drawn on . Depending on the machine model , some accessor ies listed in the c hart may no t be in cluded.
13 1 Note • Place the mat erial withi n the attaching area (grid ar ea) on the adhesiv e side. If t he material extends from the attaching area, it may be damaged b y the feed rolle rs when t he mat is fed . Memo • The mat d oes not have a top and bottom.

15 1 Peeling Off the Material (Lightweight Fabr ic for Quilt Piecin g) Follow the steps in adjusting the blade extensio n (page 18), in stalling the bl ade h older (pag e 19) and tria l cuttin g (page 19) to set up y our ma chine . After cu tting th e materi al, use a spatu la to slo wly peel o ff just the fa bric.

24 Seam Allow ance Specify the sea m allowance. This is appli ed when drawin g on fabric, then cutting i t, for exampl e, when making quilt pi eces. For deta ils, see “Cutting Arou nd Dra win gs” on page 44. Memo • When multipl e patt erns are cut at the s ame time, the setting specified in this screen is applied to all patterns.
25 2 Chapter 2 BASIC OPERATIONS The follo wing proced ures use built-in patterns to describe the entire series of operation s, from selecting a patte rn and ed iting it to cutting . Tutorial 1 - Cu tting Patter ns In this tutor ial, we will cu t two built -in patt erns.

34 f Mirroring Flip the patter n along a vertical a xis. g Seam Allo wance Apply the seam allowance s etting. Apply this setting when cutting around a drawn pa ttern, such as when making appliq ué or quilt pieces. When app lied, the drawing line (blue) and cutting line (black ) appear.

38 Auto Layout Functions The auto layout fu nction is usefu l when y ou do not wish to w aste the mat erial atta ched to the ma t. Touch in the pattern layou t screen (page 35) to perform the auto layou t function . Note • Depending on the pattern and material to be cut, the patterns may no t be cleanly cut if their spacing is too smal l.

47 4 Chapter 4 SCANNING FUNC TIONS A printed i mage or an origina l hand -drawn illustration can be scan ned and its out line can be cut out or dra wn.
48 Memo • In “Direct Cut” mode, the optional 12" × 24" (305 mm × 610 mm) mat and s canning mat cannot be used. • Before att aching the material t o the mat, use a corner of the adhesive side of the mat to te st attaching i t.

62 Cutti ng The mat or the materi al cat che s on a f eed r ol le r when the mat is be ing inse rt ed. The mat’s adhes ive stre ngth has decreas ed, or t he mate rial is not secured. Press the “Feed” bu tton t o fe ed out the mat, and t hen repl ace the mat wit h a new one.
63 5 Drawing Scanning Not all of the materi al to be cut is cut. Som e area s rem ai n uncu t. An iron-on f abric appli qué contact shee t is not fir mly atta che d to a fabric . Iron t he entire contact sheet t o affix it firmly to the wrong side of the fabr ic.
