11 2 Installing and replacing a s witch module Figure 2 shows the I/O bay locations in the Intel ® Blade Server Chassis SBCE. Figure 2. SBCE unit (r ear view) with I/O ba y identification. Y ou mu st install Fibre Channel switch modules only in I/O bays 3 and 4 of the SBCE unit.

13 Handling static-sensitive devices Attention: Static electricity can damage electronic devices. T o avoid damage, keep static- sensiti ve de vices in their static-protective p ackages until you are r eady to install them. T o reduce the possib ility of electrostatic di scharge, observe the following precautions: • Limit your movement.

15 6. If you hav e not al ready done so, touch the static-protectiv e packag e that contains the switch module to an unpainted metal part of the Blad e unit for at least 2 seconds. 7. Remove the switch module from its static-protectiv e package. 8. Squeeze the release-le ver latch to move the insertion arm, as sh own in the following illustration.

This locks the switch module in the SBCE unit. ✏ NO TE The switch module takes approximately 60 second s to complete the power- on self-test (POST).

For SFP module re mov al instru ctions, see the docum entation that com es with the SFP module. 5. Pull the release latch toward the bottom of the switch modu le, as shown in Figure 7 .
19 8. Use LC-LC or LC-SC fiber-optic cables to co nnect the switch-module external ports to external Fibre Channel devices. For more information, see the do cumentation that comes with the cable options. 9. Replace the acoustic attenuation module option, if you remo ved it in step 2 on page 14 .

21 3 Inf ormation panel LE Ds and e xternal Fibre Channel por ts This chapter describes the informat ion panel and LEDs on the sw itch module and the external Fibre Channel ports on the inform ation panel. Inf ormation panel The switch-module information panel contains LEDs and two Fibre Channel ports, as shown in Figure 8.

25 4 Configuring the s witch module thr ough the T elnet interface The switch module contains a T elnet server . Th is server enables a T elnet client to establish a T elnet session with the Fi bre Channel switch module to re triev e information or to configure parameters using the command-line i n terface (CLI).
