8 English I NTRODUCTION Congratulations on your purchase of the Bose ® Companion ® 20 multimedia speaker system. With these high-quality speakers, you can enj oy: • Full, natural sound f rom just two speaker s whether sitting directly in fr ont of your computer or acr oss the room.
9 English S ETTING U P Unpacking During unpacking, make sure that all parts shown are in the carton. If any part is missing or damage d, contact your Bose dealer . Save the carton and all packing material s for possible future use. *Correct for your region.
10 English Positioning the speakers and control pod The size and shape of these speakers make it easy to posi tion them directly next to your co mputer .

12 English C ONNECTING Connecting the cables Use the four provided cables and the AC power cord to make the connections shown on page 13. CAUTION: Do not plug in the AC power cord until all other connec- tions are completed. 1. Insert one end of the audio in cable into the Audio In connector on the back of the right speaker .

14 English C ONNECTING Connecting an external mu sic source Y ou can connect an iPod, mp3 player , or other mu sic source to the control pod using a 3.5 mm plug (not supplied). The music source audio and computer audio ar e mixed and will both play at the same time.
15 English U SING THE SPEAKER SYSTEM T urning on the system T ouch the top of the contr ol pod to turn the speaker system on. The power indicator illuminates. T ouch the top of the cont rol pod again to turn the system off. Th e power indicator extinguishes.
16 English Note: Y ou should never tur n your sound source up to maximum volume, as this could cause the so und to distort. A volume se tting of about 80% of maximum should be sufficient. 3. Rotate the Com pan io n ® 2 0 control pod volume control clockwise until the sound reaches the desired listening level.
17 English T ROUBLESHOOTING Low volume settings (less than 2 / 3 maximum) on your computer or media player re duce its output and can unnec essarily limit the volume of the Companion ® 20 system . Computer volume controls o ften include: • Exte rnal buttons, whi ch may operate independent of the onscreen controls.
18 English Problem What to do No so u n d • Make sure the speakers ar e tur ned on (the power indicator on the control pod is illuminated). • Make sure the contr ol pod volume control is not tur ned fully counterclockwise (mini mum).

20 English M AINTENANCE AND T ECHNICAL I NFORMATION Cleaning th e system Wipe the speakers and contr ol pod with a dry cloth. • Do not use solvents or chemicals. • Do not allow liquids or objects to enter the rear port of the speakers, the speaker grilles, or any part of the control pod.
