Y ou can use your XHub to connect USB 1.1 and 2.0 devices to your W indows ® or Macintosh ® notebook or desktop computer . This User ’ s Guide shows you how to set up an d use your Adap tec XHub for Notebooks.

4 XHub for Notebooks User’ s Guide Plugging in Y our XHub Follow the picture below to conne ct your XHub. Y our X Hub must be connected to a USB 2.0 port for it to operate at USB 2.0 speeds. XHubs connected to bus-power ed devices can operate without a power adapter .
5 Installing Drivers Installing Driver s USB 2.0 driver software with hub support must be installed on your computer for the XHub for Notebooks to operate at USB 2.0 speeds. If you are using an Adaptec USB 2.0 contr oller , install the USB 2.0 drivers pr ovided on the XHub for Notebooks CD.
6 XHub for Notebooks User’ s Guide Windows XP T o ins tall the drivers f or W indows XP: 1 T urn on your computer and connect your AUH-4100 (see Plugging in Y our XHub on page 4 for instr uctions). 2 Insert the XHub f or Notebooks CD into you r CD-ROM drive.
7 Installing Drivers Macintosh Operating Systems Because ther e are currently no USB 2.0 drivers for the MacIntosh OS, you don’t need a special driver to use the XHub for Notebooks with your Macintosh computer . (Y our XHub for Notebooks will operate at USB 1.
8 XHub for Notebooks User’ s Guide Installing USBControl USBControl is a software utility tha t helps you easily manag e your USB peripherals. Using USBControl, you can find information on device performance and status, and g et detailed device information and tr oubleshooting help.
9 Understanding the LEDs Understanding the LEDs Y our XHub for Notebooks has 6 colored LEDs to help you monitor t h e s t a t u s o f y o u r X H u b a n d U S B d e v i c e s . R e f e r t o t h e f ig u re b e lo w for the location of each LED. ■ The red Power LED indicates that the XHub is connected t o a power source and that the power is on.
10 XHub for Notebooks User’ s Guide Daisy-Chaining XHubs If you want to add mor e USB 2.0 ports to your system, Adaptec XHubs can be daisy-chained (linke d in series). Y ou can connect up to five XHub for Notebooks hubs. (This is a USB limitation.) T o da isy-chain XHubs: 1 Connect a power adapter to each XHub.
11 About USB About USB USB stands for Universal Serial Bu s. It is the interfa ce between your computer and the USB devi ces you plug into it. Y our computer communicates with USB devices thr ough the USB interface.
