Intr oduction Bogen's M-Class amplifiers deliver on what pr of essional sound installers need most: Flexibility , P ow er , and Reliability . Flexibility The M-Class allows for the installation of up to 2 input modules, accepting inputs fr om micr ophones, telephone systems, ster eo sour ces, mono sour ces, or daisy-chaining of amplifiers.
P anel Descriptions M-Class Fr ont P anel 1 . Status Indicators The Status LED is a multi-purpose indicator : Green - Amplifier is on and operating normally . Amber - Amplifier is in low-pow er consumption Sleep Mode. Red - Amplifier has pr otected itself due to a fault condition.
P anel Descriptions M-Class Rear P anel 1 . Low-Impedance Outputs Accepts up to # 1 0 spade lugs for low-impedance speak er connections. 2. Channel Balance Only activ e in Dual Mono mode. Allows one channel’ s volume to be adjusted r elative to the other channel.
Installation Installation Components 1 . Rack Ears Prior to installing the amplifier , y ou will need to attach the installation rack ears if you intend to install the ampli- fier in a rack and complete the setup process. Remov e the 6 fr ont most cov er scre ws on each side panel of the amplifier and attach rack ears as shown.
Installation V entilation The M-Class was designed to be placed on a table or rack-mounted. When rack mounting, the amplifiers can be stack ed one on top of the other for maximum use of the rack.
Installation Module Installation Installation T wo input module ba ys are a vailable to accept various Bogen input modules ther eby allowing users to customize the amplifier to suit the needs of the installation. First read the instructions included with the module and mak e the desired jumper setting changes bef ore installing the module.
Connections Speakers Lo w-Impedance Speak er Connections When the amplifier is set to either the stereo mode or the Dual Mono mode (see Operation section), low-impedance speak ers can be connected to either the "A" or "B" speak er output terminals.
Operation Contr ols & Connector s Le vel Contr ols The front-mounted le v el contr ols act differ ently depending on the mode of operation. In the stereo mode, each level contr ol determines the v olume of the corr esponding amplifier channel as in a typical amplifier .
Operation Effects Loop The effects loop connectors act as an insertion point for outboard signal pr ocessing equipment when the M-Class is operating in either the 70V Mono or Dual Mono modes. In these modes, the inputs and front panel contr ols f orm a 2: 1 mix er .
Operation 70V Mono Mode Placing the 3-position switch to its right most position puts the amplifier in the 70V Mono mode of operation. The amplifier supplies a single channel of amplification in this mode (see 70V Mono Mode Block Diagram ). This mode also mix es the signals fr om each input module into a mono pro- gram.
Operation Modules Standard Input Module The M-Class is shipped with one input module, the BAL 1 S, pre-installed. The BAL 1 S provides 2 high-imped- ance, balanced, low-noise inputs. This module pro vides a standard 2-channel amplifier input, but can be replaced by other modules if desir ed.
Applications Application Examples Application 1 : Simple 1 -Zone , 70V Mono telephone paging system with bac kground m usic Backgr ound music pla ys thr ough the system when no page is being made. During a telephone page, the background music mutes to a pr edetermined le vel and the telephone page is hear d.
Applications Application 3: Global music/messag e buffered and distributed to multiple amps with local o verride input for each amplifier . Similar to the paging situation found at airport depar ture gates, global music/messages pla y when no local page is present.
T r oubleshooting 1 4 • Amplifier not plugged in. • A C outlet dead. • P ow er switch off. • Break er (po wer s witch) tripped. - T urn off, then turn bac k on. • 70V mono connections on amplifier incorr ect. • P oor/brok en speak er wiring.
